Proverbi 14

DIODATI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Le donne savie edificano le lor case; Ma la stolta la sovverte con le sue mani	1 Wisdom builds herself a house; with her own hands Folly pul s it down.
2 Chi cammina nella sua dirittura riverisce il Signore; Ma chi è stravolto nelle sue vie lo sprezza	2 Whoever keeps to an honest course fears Yahweh, whoever deserts his paths shows contempt forhim.
3 Nella bocca dello stolto è la bacchetta dell’alterezza; Ma le labbra de’ savi li guardano	3 Pride sprouts in the mouth of the fool, the lips of the wise keep them safe.
4 Dove non son buoi, il granaio è vuoto; Ma l’abbondanza della ricolta è per la forza del bue	4 No oxen, empty manger; strong bul , much cash.
5 Il testimonio verace non mente; Ma il falso testimonio sbocca bugie	5 The truthful witness tells no lies, the false witness lies with every breath.
6 Lo schernitore cerca la sapienza, e non la trova punto; Ma la scienza agevolmente si acquista dall’uomo intendente	6 In vain the mocker looks for wisdom, knowledge comes easy to the intel igent.
7 Vattene via d’innanzi all’uomo stolto, E d’innanzi a colui, nel quale non avrai conosciute labbra di scienza	7 Keep wel clear of the fool, you wil not find wise lips there.
8 La sapienza dell’uomo è di considerar la sua via; Ma la follia degli stolti è inganno	8 With people of discretion, wisdom keeps a watch over their conduct, but the fol y of fools leads themastray.
9 Gli stolti si fanno beffe del commetter misfatto; Ma fra gli uomini diritti è la benevolenza	9 Fools mock at the sacrifice for sin, but favour resides among the honest.
10 Il cuore di ciascuno conosce l’amaritudine dell’anima sua; Ed altresì alcuno strano non è mescolato nella sua allegrezza	10 The heart knows its own grief best, nor can a stranger share its joy.
11 La casa degli empi sarà distrutta; Ma il tabernacolo degli uomini diritti fiorirà	11 The house of the wicked wil be destroyed, the tent of the honest wil prosper.
12 Vi è tal via che pare diritta all’uomo, Il fine della quale son le vie della morte	12 There are ways that some think straight, but they lead in the end to death.
13 Come di troppo ridere duole il cuore, Così la fine dell’allegrezza è dolore	13 Even in laughter the heart finds sadness, and joy makes way for sorrow.
14 Chi è sviato di cuore sarà saziato delle sue vie; E più ch’esso lo sarà l’uomo da bene delle sue	14 The miscreant wil reap the reward of his conduct, and the good the reward of his deeds.
15 Lo scempio crede ogni cosa; Ma l’avveduto considera i suoi passi	15 The simpleton believes any message, a person of discretion treads a careful path.
16 Il savio teme, e si ritrae dal male; Ma lo stolto trascorre, e si tien sicuro	16 The wise fears evil and avoids it, the fool is insolent and conceited.
17 Chi è pronto all’ira commette follia; E l’uomo malizioso è odiato	17 A quick-tempered person commits rash acts, but a schemer is detestable.
18 Gli scempi erederanno la stoltizia; Ma i prudenti coroneranno il lor capo di scienza	18 Simpletons have folly for their portion, people of discretion knowledge for their crown.
19 I malvagi saranno abbassati davanti a’ buoni; E gli empi saranno alle porte del giusto	19 The evil bow down before the good, the wicked, at the gates of the upright.
20 Il povero è odiato eziandio dal suo prossimo; Ma molti son gli amici del ricco	20 The poor is detestable even to a friend, but many are they who love someone rich.
21 Chi sprezza il suo prossimo pecca; Ma beato chi ha pietà de’ poveri	21 One who despises the needy is at fault, one who takes pity on the poor is blessed.
22 Quelli che macchinano del male non sono eglino traviati? Ma benignità e verità sarà usata inverso coloro che pensano del bene	22 Plan evil -- isn't this to go astray? Those who plan for good can earn faithful love and constancy.
23 In ogni fatica vi è del profitto; Ma il parlar delle labbra torna solo in inopia	23 Hard work always yields its profit, idle talk brings only want.
24 Le ricchezze de’ savi sono la lor corona; Ma la follia degli stolti è sempre follia	24 The crown of the wise is their riches; the fol y of fools is folly.
25 Il testimonio verace libera le anime; Ma il falso sbocca bugie	25 A truthful witness saves lives, whoever utters lies is a deceiver.
26 Nel timor del Signore vi è confidanza fortissima; E vi sarà un ricetto per li figliuoli di colui che teme Iddio.	26 In the fear of Yahweh is powerful security; for his children he is a refuge.
27 Il timor del Signore è una fonte di vita, Per ritrarsi da’ lacci della morte	27 The fear of Yahweh is a life-giving spring for eluding the snares of death.
28 La magnificenza del re è nella moltitudine del popolo; Ma la ruina del principe è nel mancamento della gente	28 Large population, monarch's glory; dwindling population, ruler's ruin.
29 Chi è lento all’ira è di gran prudenza; Ma chi è pronto al cruccio eccita la follia	29 Mastery of temper is high proof of intel igence, a quick temper makes fol y worse than ever.
30 Il cuor sano è la vita delle carni; Ma l’invidia è il tarlo delle ossa	30 The life of the body is a tranquil heart, but envy is a cancer in the bones.
31 Chi oppressa il povero fa onta a colui che l’ha fatto; Ma chi ha pietà del bisognoso l’onora	31 To oppress the weak insults the Creator, kindness to the needy honours the Creator.
32 L’empio sarà traboccato per la sua malvagità; Ma il giusto spera eziandio nella sua morte	32 For evil-doing, the wicked wil be flung headlong, but in integrity the upright wil find refuge.
33 La sapienza riposa nel cuore dell’uomo intendente, Ed è riconosciuta in mezzo degli stolti	33 Wisdom resides in an understanding heart; she is not to be found in the hearts of fools.
34 La giustizia innalza la nazione; Ma il peccato è il vituperio de’ popoli	34 Uprightness makes a nation great, by sin whole races are disgraced.
35 Il favor del re è verso il servitore intendente; Ma la sua indegnazione è contro a quello che reca vituperio	35 A king shows favour to a wise minister, but anger to one who shames him.
