| 1 Cependant les habitants de Ziph vinrent trouver Saül à Gabaa, et lui dirent : David est caché dans la colline d'Hachila, qui est vis-à-vis du désert. | 1 Some men from Ziph went to Saul at Gibeah and said, 'Look, David is hiding on the Hil of Hachilah onthe edge of the wastelands!' |
| 2 Saül prit aussitôt avec lui trois mille hommes choisis (d'élite) de tout Israël, et alla chercher David dans le désert de Ziph. | 2 So Saul set off and went down to the desert of Ziph, accompanied by three thousand picked men ofIsrael, to search for David in the desert of Ziph. |
| 3 Il campa sur la colline d'Hachila, qui est vis-à-vis du désert sur le chemin. David demeurait alors dans ce désert. Comme on lui dit que Saül l'y venait chercher | 3 Saul pitched camp on the Hil of Hachilah, which is on the edge of the wastelands near the road. Davidwas then living in the desert and saw that Saul had come after him into the desert. |
| 4 il envoya des espions, et il apprit qu'il était venu très certainement. | 4 Accordingly, David sent out spies and learned that Saul had indeed arrived. |
| 5 Il partit donc sans bruit, et s'en vint au lieu où était Saül ; il remarqua l'endroit où était la tente (dormaient) de Saül et d'Abner, fils de Ner, général de son armée. Et voyant que Saül dormait dans sa tente, et tous ses gens autour de lui, | 5 Setting off, David went to the place where Saul had pitched camp. He saw the place where Saul andAbner son of Ner, commander of his army, had bedded down. Saul had bedded down inside the camp with thetroops bivouacking round him. |
| 6 il dit à Achimélech l'Héthéen, et à Abisaï, fils de Sarvia, frère de Joab : Qui veut venir avec moi dans le camp de Saül ? Abisaï lui dit : J'irai avec toi. | 6 Speaking to Ahimelech the Hittite and Abishai son of Zeruiah and brother of Joab, David said, 'Whowil come down with me to the camp, to Saul?' Abishai answered, 'I will go down with you.' |
| 7 David et Abisaï allèrent donc la nuit parmi les gens de Saül, et ils trouvèrent Saül couché et dormant dans sa tente ; sa lance était à son chevet fichée en terre, et Abner avec tous ses gens dormaient autour de lui. | 7 So in the dark David and Abishai made their way towards the force, where they found Saul lyingasleep inside the camp, his spear stuck in the ground beside his head, with Abner and the troops lying roundhim. |
| 8 Alors Abisaï dit à David : Dieu te livre aujourd'hui ton ennemi entre les mains ; je vais donc, avec ma (la) lance, le percer jusqu'en terre d'un seul coup, et il n'en faudra pas un second. | 8 Abishai then said to David, 'Today God has put your enemy in your power; so now let me pin him tothe ground with his own spear. Just one stroke! I shal not need to strike him twice.' |
| 9 David répondit à Abisaï : Ne le tue pas ; car qui étendra la main sur l'oint du Seigneur, et sera innocent ? | 9 David said to Abishai, 'Do not kil him, for who could raise his hand against Yahweh's anointed and gounpunished? |
| 10 Et il ajouta : Vive le Seigneur ! à moins que le Seigneur ne frappe lui-même Saül, ou que le jour de sa mort n'arrive, ou qu'il ne soit tué dans une bataille, il ne mourra point. | 10 As Yahweh lives,' David said, 'Yahweh himself wil strike him down: either the day wil come for himto die, or he will go into battle and perish then. |
| 11 Dieu me garde de porter la main sur l'oint du Seigneur. Prends seulement (maintenant donc) sa lance qui est à son chevet, et sa coupe, et allons-nous-en. | 11 Yahweh forbid that I should raise my hand against Yahweh's anointed! But now let us take the spearbeside his head and the pitcher of water, and let us go away.' |
| 12 David prit donc la lance, et la coupe qui était au chevet de Saül, et ils s'en allèrent. Il n'y eut personne qui les vit, ni qui sût ce qui se passait, ou qui s'éveillât ; mais tous dormaient, parce que le Seigneur les avait assoupis d'un profond sommeil. | 12 David took the spear and the pitcher of water from beside Saul's head, and they made off. No onesaw, no one knew, no one woke up; they were al asleep, because a torpor from Yahweh had fal en on them. |
| 13 David étant passé de l'autre côté, s'arrêta au loin sur le sommet de la montagne, à un grand intervalle du camp. | 13 David crossed to the other side and halted on the top of the mountain a long way off; there was awide space between them. |
| 14 De là il appela à haute voix les gens de Saül, et Abner, fils de Ner, et lui cria : Abner, ne répondras-tu pas ? Abner répondit : Qui es-tu qui cries de la sorte, et qui troubles le roi ? | 14 David then cal ed out to the troops and to Abner son of Ner, 'Abner, why don't you answer?' Abnerreplied, 'Who is that calling?' |
| 15 David dit à Abner : N'es-tu pas un homme (de cœur) ? et y a-t-il quelqu'un dans Israël qui te soit égal ? Pourquoi donc n'as-tu pas gardé le roi ton seigneur ? Car il est venu quelqu'un d'entre le peuple pour tuer le roi ton seigneur. | 15 David said to Abner, 'Are you not a man? Who is your equal in Israel? Why, then, did you not guardthe king your lord? One of the people came to kill the king your lord. |
| 16 Tu n'as pas bien agi en cette rencontre. Je jure par le Seigneur que vous méritez tous la (vous êtes des fils de) mort, pour avoir si mal gardé votre maître, qui est l'oint du Seigneur. Vois donc maintenant où est la lance du roi, et sa coupe qui était à son chevet. (?) | 16 What you did was not wel done. As Yahweh lives, you all deserve to die since you did not guardyour lord, Yahweh's anointed. Look where the king's spear is now, and the pitcher of water which was beside hishead!' |
| 17 (Or) Saül reconnut la voix de David, et lui dit : N'est-ce pas là ta voix que j'entends, mon fils David ? David lui dit : C'est ma voix, mon seigneur le roi. | 17 Recognising David's voice, Saul said, 'Is that your voice, my son David?' David replied, 'It is myvoice, my lord king. |
| 18 Et il ajouta : Pourquoi mon seigneur persécute-t-il son serviteur ? Qu'ai-je fait ? De quel crime ma main est-elle souillée ? | 18 Why is my lord pursuing his servant?' he said. 'What have I done? What crime have I committed? |
| 19 Souffrez donc, mon seigneur le roi, que votre serviteur vous dise cette parole : Si c'est le Seigneur qui vous pousse contre moi, qu'il aspire le parfum de mon (d'un) sacrifice ; mais si ce sont les hommes, ils sont maudits devant le Seigneur, eux qui m'ont chassé aujourd'hui, afin que je n'habite point dans l'héritage du Seigneur, en me disant : Va, sers les (des) dieux étrangers. | 19 May my lord king now listen to his servant's words: if Yahweh has incited you against me, may he beappeased with an offering; but if human beings have done it, may they be accursed before Yahweh, since theyhave as effectively banished me today from sharing in Yahweh's heritage as if they had said, "Go and serveother gods!" |
| 20 Que (maintenant) mon sang ne soit donc pas répandu sur la terre en face du Seigneur. Le roi d'Israël s'est mis en campagne pour courir après une puce, ou comme on court par les montagnes après une perdrix ? (.) | 20 So I pray now that my blood shall not be shed on soil remote from Yahweh's presence, when theking of Israel has mounted an expedition to take my life, as one might hunt a partridge in the mountains!' |
| 21 Saül lui répondit : J'ai péché ; reviens, mon fils David ; je ne te ferai plus de mal à l'avenir, puisque ma vie a été aujourd'hui précieuse à tes yeux. Car il paraît que j'ai agi comme un insensé, et que j'ai été mal informé de (ignoré) beaucoup de choses. | 21 Saul replied, 'I have done wrong! Come back, my son David; I shal never harm you again, sincetoday you have shown respect for my life. Yes, I have behaved like a fool, I have been profoundly in the wrong.' |
| 22 David dit ensuite : Voici la lance du roi ; que l'un de ses serviteurs passe ici, et qu'il l'emporte. | 22 In reply, David said, 'Here is the king's spear. Let one of the men come across and get it. |
| 23 Au reste le Seigneur rendra à chacun selon sa justice, et selon sa fidélité ; car le Seigneur vous a livré aujourd'hui entre mes mains, et je n'ai pas voulu porter la main sur l'oint du Seigneur. | 23 May Yahweh reward each as each has been upright and loyal. Today Yahweh put you in my powerbut I would not raise my hand against Yahweh's anointed. |
| 24 Et comme votre âme a été aujourd'hui précieuse à mes yeux, qu'ainsi mon âme soit précieuse aux yeux du Seigneur, et qu'il me délivre de tous les maux (toute angoisse). | 24 As today I set great value by your life, so may Yahweh set great value by my life and deliver me fromevery tribulation!' |
| 25 Saül répondit à David : Béni sois-tu, mon fils David ; tu réussiras certainement dans tes entreprises, et ta puissance sera grande (tu pourras beaucoup). David s'en alla ensuite, et Saül s'en retourna chez lui. | 25 Saul then said, 'May you be blessed, my son David! In what you undertake, you wil certainlysucceed.' David then went on his way and Saul returned home. |
