| 1 Parole du Seigneur, qui fut adressée à Sophonie, fils de Chusi, fils de Godolias, fils d'Amarias, fils d'Ezéchias (Ezécias), aux jours de Josias, fils d'Amon, roi de Juda. | 1 The word of the LORD which came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hizkiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah. |
| 2 Je détruirai (Rassemblant, je rassemblerai, note) tout sur la face de la terre, dit le Seigneur ; | 2 I will utterly consume all things from off the land, saith the LORD. |
| 3 je détruirai (rassemblant) les hommes et les bêtes, je détruirai (rassemblant) les oiseaux du ciel et les poissons de la mer ; je ruinerai les impies, et j'exterminerai les hommes de la face de la terre, dit le Seigneur. | 3 I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumblingblocks with the wicked; and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the LORD. |
| 4 J'étendrai ma main sur Juda et sur tous les habitants de Jérusalem, et j'exterminerai de ce lieu les restes de Baal, et les noms de ses ministres (gardiens du temple) avec les prêtres ; | 4 I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and the name of the Chemarims with the priests; |
| 5 ceux qui adorent sur les toits l'armée (la milice) du ciel, ceux qui adorent le Seigneur et jurent en son nom, et qui jurent au nom de Melchom ; | 5 And them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them that worship and that swear by the LORD, and that swear by Malcham; |
| 6 ceux qui se détournent (en arrière) du Seigneur, et qui ne cherchent pas le Seigneur, et n'essayent pas de le trouver. | 6 And them that are turned back from the LORD; and those that have not sought the LORD, nor inquired for him. |
| 7 Demeurez en silence devant le Seigneur Dieu, car le jour du Seigneur est proche ; car le Seigneur a préparé la victime, il a invité (sanctifié) ses conviés (convives), | 7 Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord GOD: for the day of the LORD is at hand: for the LORD hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid his guests. |
| 8 et voici, au jour de la victime du Seigneur, je visiterai les princes, et les fils du roi, et tous ceux qui portent des vêtements étrangers ; | 8 And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD's sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king's children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel. |
| 9 je châtierai (visiterai) en ce jour-là tous ceux qui franchissent insolemment le seuil, et qui remplissent d'iniquité et de tromperie la maison du Seigneur leur Dieu. | 9 In the same day also will I punish all those that leap on the threshold, which fill their masters' houses with violence and deceit. |
| 10 En ce jour-là, dit le Seigneur, on entendra de la porte des Poissons un grand cri, et de la seconde porte des hurlements, et un (bruit de) grand désastre du haut des collines. | 10 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD, that there shall be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, and an howling from the second, and a great crashing from the hills. |
| 11 Hurlez, habitants du mortier (de Pila, note) ; tout le peuple de Chanaan a été réduit au silence (s'est tu), tous les hommes couverts d'argent ont été exterminés. | 11 Howl, ye inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the merchant people are cut down; all they that bear silver are cut off. |
| 12 En ce temps-là, je fouillerai Jérusalem avec des lampes, et je châtierai (visiterai) ceux qui sont enfoncés dans leur lie ; qui disent en leur cœur : Le Seigneur ne fera ni bien ni mal. | 12 And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are settled on their lees: that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil. |
| 13 Leurs richesses seront pillées, et leurs maisons deviendront un désert ; ils bâtiront des maisons, et ils n'y habiteront pas ; ils planteront des vignes, et ils n'en boiront pas le vin. | 13 Therefore their goods shall become a booty, and their houses a desolation: they shall also build houses, but not inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, but not drink the wine thereof. |
| 14 Le grand jour du Seigneur est proche ; il est proche et il s'avance rapidement (est extrêmement prompt) ; le bruit (voix) du jour du Seigneur est amer(ère) ; là le vaillant sera accablé de maux (le fort sera dans la tribulation). | 14 The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly. |
| 15 Ce jour sera un jour de colère, un jour d'affliction et d'angoisse, un jour de calamité et de misère, un jour de ténèbres et d'obscurité, un jour de nuage et de tempête, | 15 That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, |
| 16 un jour de trompette et de cris de guerre (bruit retentissant) contre les villes fortes et les tours (angles) élevées. | 16 A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers. |
| 17 J'affligerai les hommes, et ils marcheront comme des aveugles, parce qu'ils ont péché contre le Seigneur ; leur sang sera répandu comme la poussière, et leurs cadavres seront comme du fumier. | 17 And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the LORD: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung. |
| 18 Leur or même et leur argent ne pourront pas les délivrer au jour de la colère du Seigneur ; le feu de son indignation (zèle) dévorera toute la terre, car il se hâtera d'exterminer tous les habitants de la terre. | 18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land. |
