| 3 Les enfants d'Israël étant donc partis de Ramessès, le quinzième jour du premier mois, le lendemain de la Pâque, par un effet de la main puissante du Seigneur, à la vue de tous les Egyptiens | 3 They left Rameses in the first month. It was the fifteenth day of the first month, the day following thePassover, when the Israelites confidently set out, under the eyes of al Egypt. |
| 4 qui ensevelissaient leur premiers-nés, que le Seigneur avait frappés (car il avait exercé sa vengeance sur leurs dieux mêmes), | 4 The Egyptians were burying those of their own people whom Yahweh had struck down, all the first-born; Yahweh had carried out his judgement on their gods. |
| 5 allèrent camper à Soccoth. | 5 The Israelites left Rameses and camped at Succoth. |
| 6 De Soccoth ils vinrent à Etham, qui est à l'extrémité du désert. | 6 Then they left Succoth and encamped at Etham which is on the edge of the desert. |

| 8 De Phihahiroth, ils passèrent par le milieu de la mer dans le désert ; et, ayant marché trois jours par le désert d'Etham, ils campèrent à Mara. | 8 They left Pi-Hahiroth, crossed the sea into the desert, and after marching for three days in the desertof Etham they encamped at Marah. |

| 41 Etant partis de la montagne de Hor, ils vinrent camper à Salmona ; | 41 They left Mount Hor and encamped at Zalmonah. |
| 42 d'où ils vinrent à Phunon. | 42 They left Zalmonah and encamped at Punon. |
| 43 De Phunon, ils allèrent camper à Oboth. | 43 They left Punon and encamped at Oboth. |
| 44 D'Oboth, ils vinrent à Jiéabarim, qui est sur la frontière des Moabites. | 44 They left Oboth and encamped in Moabite territory at Iye-Abarim. |

| 48 Et ayant quittés les montagnes d'Abarim, ils passèrent dans les plaines de Moab, sur le bord du Jourdain, vis-à-vis de Jéricho, | 48 They left the Abarim mountains and encamped on the Plains of Moab, near the Jordan oppositeJericho. |
| 49 où ils campèrent dans les lieux les plus plats du pays des Moabites, depuis Bethsimoth jusqu'à Abelsatim. | 49 They encamped near the Jordan between Beth-ha-Jeshimoth and Abel-ha-Shittim, on the Plains ofMoab. |
| 50 Ce fut là que le Seigneur parla à Moïse, et lui dit : | 50 Yahweh spoke to Moses on the Plains of Moab, near the Jordan by Jericho, and said: |
| 51 Ordonne ceci aux enfants d'Israël, et dis-leur : Quand vous aurez passé le Jourdain, et que vous serez entrés dans le pays de Chanaan, | 51 'Speak to the Israelites and say: "When you have crossed the Jordan into Canaan, |
| 52 exterminez tous les habitants de ce pays-là ; brisez les pierres érigées en l'honneur des fausses divinités ; mettez en pièces leurs statues, et renversez tous leurs hauts lieux | 52 you wil drive out al the local inhabitants before you. You wil destroy al their painted images, youwil destroy al their metal statues and you wil demolish al their high places. |
| 53 pour purifier ainsi la terre, afin que vous y habitiez ; car je vous l'ai donnée afin que vous la possédiez ; | 53 You wil take possession of the country and settle in it, for I have given you the country as yourproperty. |
| 54 et vous la partagerez entre vous par le sort. Vous en donnerez une plus grande partie à ceux qui seront en plus grand nombre, et une moindre à ceux qui seront moins nombreux. Chacun recevra son héritage selon qu'il lui sera échu par le sort, et le partage s'en fera par tribus et par familles. | 54 You wil share it out by lot among your clans. To a large clan you wil give a larger heritage, and to asmal er clan you wil give a smal er heritage. Where the lot fal s for each, that wil be his. Your heritage wildepend on the size of your tribe. |
| 55 (Mais) Si vous ne voulez pas exterminer les habitants du pays, ceux qui y seront restés seront comme des clous dans vos yeux, et comme des lances dans vos côtés, et ils vous combattront (seront contraires) dans le pays où vous devez habiter ; | 55 If, however, you do not drive out the local inhabitants before you, the ones you al ow to remain wilbe thorns in your eyes and thistles in your sides and wil harass you in the country where you are living, |
| 56 et je vous ferai à vous-mêmes tout le mal que j'avais résolu de leur faire. | 56 and I shal treat you as I intended to treat them." ' |
