| 1 Ecoutez la parole du Seigneur, enfants d'Israël, car le Seigneur a un procès avec les habitants du pays ; car il n'y a pas de vérité, il n'y a pas de miséricorde, il n'y a pas de connaissance de Dieu dans le pays. | 1 Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. |
| 2 L'outrage (imprécation), le mensonge, l'homicide, le vol et l'adultère l'ont inondé, et le sang y touche le sang. | 2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood. |
| 3 C'est pourquoi le pays sera en deuil, et tous ceux qui y habitent seront languissants, avec les bêtes des champs et les oiseaux du ciel ; les poissons même de mer périront (seront enveloppés dans cette ruine). | 3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away. |
| 4 Mais que nul ne conteste et qu'on n'accuse personne ; car ton peuple est comme ceux qui contredisent les prêtres. | 4 Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: for thy people are as they that strive with the priest. |
| 5 Tu tomberas (succomberas) aujourd'hui, et le prophète tombera (succombera) aussi avec toi. La nuit, j'ai fait taire ta mère. | 5 Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother. |
| 6 Mon peuple s'est tu, parce qu'il n'a pas eu de science. Parce que tu as repoussé la science, je te repousserai, pour que tu n'exerces plus mon (le) sacerdoce (pour moi) ; et puisque tu as oublié la loi de ton Dieu, j'oublierai tes enfants, moi aussi. | 6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. |
| 7 Plus ils se sont multipliés (A proportion de leur multitude), plus ils ont péché contre moi ; je changerai leur gloire en ignominie. | 7 As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame. |
| 8 Ils se nourrissent(ront) des péchés de mon peuple, et ils élèvent (encourageront) leurs âmes vers son (dans leur) iniquité(s). | 8 They eat up the sin of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquity. |
| 9 Comme est le peuple, ainsi sera le prêtre ; je le châtierai (visiterai) selon ses voies, et je lui rendrai ce que méritent ses pensées. | 9 And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings. |
| 10 Ils mangeront, et ils ne seront pas rassasiés ; ils se sont livrés à la fornication, et ils n'ont pas cessé, parce qu'ils ont abandonné le Seigneur et n'ont pas gardé sa loi. | 10 For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the LORD. |
| 11 La fornication, le vin et l'ivresse font perdre le sens. | 11 Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart. |
| 12 Mon peuple a interrogé un morceau de (son) bois, et son bâton lui a annoncé l'avenir ; car l'esprit de fornication les a trompés, et ils se sont prostitués loin (en se séparant) de leur Dieu. | 12 My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God. |
| 13 Ils sacrifiaient sur le sommet des montagnes, et ils brûlaient de l'encens sur les collines, sous les chênes, les peupliers et les térébinthes, parce que leur ombre était agréable ; c'est pourquoi vos filles se prostitueront (forniqueront), et vos femmes seront adultères. | 13 They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall commit whoredom, and your spouses shall commit adultery. |
| 14 Je ne punirai pas vos filles de leur prostitution (fornication), ni vos femmes de leurs adultères, parce qu'ils viv(ai)ent eux-mêmes avec des courtisanes (femmes de mauvaise vie), et sacrifi(ai)ent avec des efféminés ; le peuple sans intelligence sera châtié. | 14 I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom, nor your spouses when they commit adultery: for themselves are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots: therefore the people that doth not understand shall fall. |
| 15 Si tu te livres à la fornication, ô Israël, que Juda au moins ne pèche pas ; n'entrez pas à Galgala, ne montez pas à Béthaven, et ne jurez pas : Vive le Seigneur ! (vit.) | 15 Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and come not ye unto Gilgal, neither go ye up to Beth-aven, nor swear, The LORD liveth. |
| 16 Car Israël s'est révolté (détourné) comme une génisse indomptable (bondissante) ; maintenant le Seigneur le(s) fera paître comme un agneau dans une vaste campagne. | 16 For Israel slideth back as a backsliding heifer: now the LORD will feed them as a lamb in a large place. |
| 17 Ephraïm est attaché aux idoles : (abandonne) laisse-le. | 17 Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone. |
| 18 Leur festin est pour eux seuls (séparé du vôtre) ; ils se sont plongés dans (ont forniqué par) la fornication ; ses protecteurs ont pris plaisir à le couvrir d'ignominie. | 18 Their drink is sour: they have committed whoredom continually: her rulers with shame do love, Give ye. |
| 19 Le (Un) vent l'a lié dans ses ailes, et ils seront confondus à cause de leurs sacrifices. | 19 The wind hath bound her up in her wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices. |
