| 1 Comme passe le matin, ainsi a passé le roi d'Israël. Lorsque (Parce qu') Israël était un enfant, je l'ai aimé, et j'ai (r)appelé mon fils de l'Egypte. | 1 As the morning passeth, so hath the king of Israel Israel was a child, and I loved him: and I called my son out of Egypt. |
| 2 On (Mes prophètes) les a (ont) appelés, et ils se sont éloignés ; ils immolaient aux Baals (Baalim) et ils sacrifiaient aux idoles (simulacres). | 2 As they called them, they went away from before their face: they offered victims to Baalim, and sacrificed to idols. |
| 3 Et moi, j'ai été comme le nourricier d'Ephraïm ; je les portais dans mes bras, et ils n'ont pas compris que je les guérirais (prenais soin d'eux). | 3 And I was like a foster father to Ephraim, I carried them in my arms: and they knew not that I healed them. |
| 4 Je les ai tirés (attirerai) par des cordes humaines (les attaches d'Adam, note), par les liens de l'amour (la charité) ; j'ai été comme celui qui aurait relevé le joug près de leur bouche (de dessus leur joues), et je me suis approché de lui pour le nourrir. | 4 I will draw them with the cords of Adam, with the bands of love : and I will be to them as one that taketh off the yoke on their jaws: and I put his meat to him that he might eat. |
| 5 Il(s) ne retourneront(a) pas dans le pays d'Egypte ; mais l'Assyrien (Assur) sera leur (son) roi, puisqu'ils n'ont pas voulu revenir. | 5 He shall not return into the land of Egypt, but the Assyrian shall be his king: because they would not be converted. |
| 6 L'épée sera tirée (a commencé) dans leurs (ses) villes, et elle consumera leurs (ses) hommes d'élite, et elle dévorera leurs chefs. | 6 The sword hath begun in his cities, and it shall consume his chosen men, and sha.ll devour their heads. |
| 7 Mon peuple attendra impatiemment mon retour ; mais on leur imposera à tous un joug qui ne sera pas enlevé. | 7 And my people shall long for my return: but a yoke shall be put upon them together, which shall not be taken off. |
| 8 Comment te traiterai-je, Ephraïm ? te protégerai-je, Israël ? Comment t'abandonnerai-je (est-ce que je traiterai) comme Adama, te rendrai-je semblable à Séboïm ? Mon cœur s'agite en moi, toute ma compassion (mon repentir) s'est ému(e). | 8 How shall I deal with thee, O Ephraim, shall I protect thee, O Israel? how shall I make thee as Adama, shall I set thee as Seboim? my heart is turned within me, my repentance is stirred up. |
| 9 Je n'agirai pas selon la fureur de ma colère ; je ne détruirai pas de nouveau (entièrement) Ephraïm, car je suis Dieu et non un homme ; je suis (le) saint au milieu de toi, et je n'entrerai pas dans les villes. | 9 I will not execute the fierceness of my wrath: I will not return to destroy Ephraim: because I am God, and not man: the holy one in the midst of thee, and I will not enter into the city. |
| 10 Ils suivront le Seigneur ; il rugira comme un lion, il rugira lui-même, et les fils de la mer trembleront d'effroi. | 10 They shall walk after the Lord, he shall roar as a lion: because he shall roar, and the children of the sea shall fear. |
| 11 Ils s'envoleront de l'Egypte comme un oiseau, et du pays des Assyriens comme une colombe ; et je les établirai dans leurs maisons, dit le Seigneur. | 11 And they shall fly away like a bird out of Egypt, and like a dove out of the land of the Assyrians: and I will place them in their own houses, saith the Lord. |
| 12 Ephraïm m'a entouré de mensonge, et la maison d'Israël de tromperie ; mais Juda est descendu comme témoin avec Dieu, et il a été fidèle avec les saints. | 12 Ephraim hath compassed me about with denials, and the house of Israel with deceit: but Juda went down as a witness with God, and is faithful with the saints. |
