| 1 En ce temps-là, dit le Seigneur, on tirera de leurs sépulcres les os des rois de Juda, les os des (de ses) princes, les os des prêtres, les os des prophètes, et les os des habitants de Jérusalem, | 1 At that time, saith the Lord, they shall cast out the bones of the kings of Juda, and the bones of the princes thereof, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves. |
| 2 et on les exposera au soleil, à la lune et à toute la milice du ciel, qu'ils ont aimés, qu'ils ont honorés (servis), qu'ils ont suivis, qu'ils ont recherchés, et qu'ils ont adorés. On ne les recueillera pas et on ne les ensevelira pas ; ils seront sur la (face de la) terre comme du (un) fumier. | 2 And they shall spread them abroad to the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and adored: they shall not be gathered, and they shall not be buried: they shall be as dung upon the face of the earth. |
| 3 Et tous ceux qui seront restés de cette race très méchante, dans tous les lieux où je les aurai chassés (ai jetés), dit le Seigneur des armées, en quelque lieu qu'ils soient, préféreront la mort à la vie. | 3 And death shall be chosen rather than life by all that shall remain of this wicked kindred in all places, which are left, to which I have cast them out, saith the Lord of hosts. |
| 4 Tu leur diras : Ainsi parle le Seigneur : Est-ce que celui qui est tombé ne se relève(ra) pas ? et celui qui s'est détourné ne (reviendra-t) revient-il pas ? | 4 And thou shalt say to them: Thus saith the Lord: Shall not he that falleth, rise again? and he that is turned away, shall he not turn again? |
| 5 Pourquoi donc ce peuple de Jérusalem s'est-il détourné de moi avec une aversion (détournement) opiniâtre ? Ils se sont attachés au mensonge, et ils ne veulent pas (n'ont pas voulu) revenir. | 5 Why then is this people in Jerusalem turned away with a stubborn revolting? they have laid hold on lying, and have refused to return. |
| 6 J'ai été attentif et j'ai écouté : il n'y en a pas un qui parle comme il devrait ; il n'y en a pas un qui fasse pénitence de son péché, en disant : Qu'ai-je fait ? Ils reprennent tous (ont tous suivi) leur course, comme un cheval qui s'élance (avec impétuosité) au combat. | 6 I attended, and hearkened; no man speaketh what is good, there is none that doth penance for his sin, saying: What have I done? They are all turned to their own course, as a horse rushing to the battle. |
| 7 Le milan connaît dans le ciel sa saison ; la tourterelle, l'hirondelle et la cigogne observent le temps de leur arrivée ; mais mon peuple n'a pas connu le jugement du Seigneur. | 7 The kite in the air hath known her time: the turtle, and the swallow, and the stork have observed the time of their coming: but my people have not known the judgment of the Lord. |
| 8 Comment dites-vous : Nous sommes sages, et la loi du Seigneur (de Dieu) est avec nous ? La plume mensongère des scribes n'a vraiment écrit que le mensonge. | 8 How do you say: We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us? Indeed the lying pen of the scribes hath wrought falsehood. |
| 9 Les sages sont confondus (ont été confus), ils sont (ont été) épouvantés, ils sont (ont été) pris ; car ils ont rejeté la parole du Seigneur, et ils n'ont plus aucune sagesse. | 9 The wise men are confounded, they are dismayed, and taken: for they have cast away the word of the Lord, and there is no wisdom in them. |
| 10 C'est pourquoi je donnerai leurs femmes à des étrangers, et leurs champs à d'autres héritiers, parce que, depuis le plus petit jusqu'au plus grand, ils se livrent tous à l'avarice ; depuis le prophète jusqu'au prêtre ils font tous le mensonge. | 10 Therefore I will give their women to strangers, their fields to others for an inheritance: because from the least even to the greatest all follow covetousness: from the prophet even to the priest, all deal deceitfully. |
| 11 Et ils entreprenaient à leur confusion de guérir (guérissaient) la blessure de la fille de mon peuple (en ignominie), en disant : La paix, la paix, lorsqu'il n'y avait pas de paix. | 11 And they healed the breach of the daughter of my people disgracefully, saying Peace, peace: when there was no peace. |
| 12 Ils sont (ont été) confus, parce qu'ils ont commis des abominations, ou plutôt la confusion même n'a pu les confondre, et ils n'ont pas su rougir. C'est pourquoi ils tomberont avec les mourants (ceux qui sont renversés), ils tomberont au temps de leur châtiment (visitation), dit le Seigneur. | 12 They are confounded, because they have committed abomination: yea rather they are not confounded with confusion, and they have not know how to blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall; in the time of their visitation they shall fall, saith the Lord. |
| 13 Je les réunirai tous (Les rassemblant, je les rassemblerai, note), dit le Seigneur ; il n'y a pas de raisin sur les vignes, ni de figues sur le figuier ; les feuilles sont tombées, et ce que je leur avais donné leur a échappé. | 13 Gathering I will gather them together, saith the Lord, there is no grape on the vines, and there are no figs on the fig tree, the leaf is fallen: and I have given them the things that are passed away. |
| 14 Pourquoi restons-nous assis ? Rassemblez-vous, et entrons dans les villes fortes, et demeurons-y en silence, car le Seigneur notre Dieu nous a réduits au silence, et il nous a donné à boire de l'eau de fiel, parce que nous avons péché contre le Seigneur. | 14 Why do we sit still? assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the fenced city, and let us be silent there: for the Lord our God hath put us to silence, and hath given us water of gall to drink: for we have sinned against the Lord. |
| 15 Nous attendions (avons attendu) la paix, et il n'est venu rien de bon ; (le temps de) la guérison, et voici la frayeur (l'épouvante). | 15 We looked for peace and no good came: for a time of healing, and behold fear. |
| 16 Depuis Dan on entend le frémissement (roulement) de ses coursiers (chevaux) ; tout le pays est ébranlé par les hennissements de ses chevaux de guerre (combattants) ; ils sont venus, et ils ont dévoré le pays et ce qu'il renferme, la ville et ses habitants. | 16 The snorting of his horse was heard from Dan, all the land was moved at the sound of the neighing of his warriors: and they came and devoured the land, and all that was in it: the city and its inhabitants. |
| 17 Car j'enverrai contre vous des serpents, des basilics, contre lesquels il n'y aura pas d'enchantement, et ils vous mordront, dit le Seigneur. | 17 For behold I will send among you serpents, basilisks, against which there is no charm: and they shall bite you, saith the Lord. |
| 18 Ma douleur est au-dessus de toute douleur ; mon cœur est languissant (triste) au-dedans de moi. | 18 My sorrow is above sorrow, my heart mourneth within me. |
| 19 Voici que la voix de la fille de mon peuple retentit (me crie) d'une terre lointaine : Le Seigneur n'est-il pas dans Sion ? (ou) Son roi n'est-il plus en elle ? Pourquoi donc m'ont-ils irrité par leurs images sculptées (taillées au ciseau) et par leurs dieux (des vanités) étrangers(ères) ? | 19 Behold the voice of the daughter my people from a far country: Is not the Lord in Sion, or is not her king in her? why then have they provoked me to wrath with their idols, and strange vanities? |
| 20 La moisson est passée, l'été est fini, et nous n'avons pas été sauvés. | 20 The harvest is passed, the summer is ended, and we are not saved. |
| 21 A cause de la plaie (du brisement) de la fille de mon peuple je suis brisé et attristé ; l'épouvante (la stupeur) m'a saisi. | 21 For the affliction of the daughter of my people I am afflicted, and made sorrowful, astonishment hath taken hold on me. |
| 22 N'y a-t-il pas de baume (résine, note) en Galaad ? ne s'y trouve-t-il pas de médecin ? Pourquoi donc la blessure de la fille de mon peuple n'a-t-elle pas été pansée (fermée) ? | 22 Is there no balm in Galaad? or is no physician there? Why then is not the wound of the daughter of my people closed? |
