| 1 Au commencement du règne de Joakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, cette parole fut prononcée par le Seigneur en ces termes : | 1 In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, the king of Judah, this word came from the Lord, saying: |
| 2 Ainsi parle le Seigneur : Tiens-toi dans le parvis de la maison du Seigneur, et dis à toutes les villes de Juda d'où l'on vient pour adorer dans la maison du Seigneur, toutes les paroles que je t'ai ordonné de leur dire ; n'en retranche pas un mot ; | 2 “Thus says the Lord: Stand in the atrium of the house of the Lord, and speak to all the cities of Judah, from which they come to adore in the house of the Lord, all the words that I have commanded you to speak to them. Do not choose to subtract any word. |
| 3 peut-être écouteront-ils, et reviendront-ils chacun de sa mauvaise voie, et je me repentirai du mal que j'ai résolu de leur faire, à cause de la malice de leurs penchants (œuvres). | 3 So may they hear and be converted, each one from his evil way. And then I may repent of the evil that I plan to do to them because of the wickedness of their pursuits. |
| 4 Et tu leur diras : Ainsi parle le Seigneur : Si vous ne m'écoutez pas, et si vous ne marchez pas (quand j'ordonne que vous marchiez) dans la (ma) loi que je vous ai donnée, | 4 And you shall say to them: Thus says the Lord: If you will not listen to me, so that you walk in my law, which I have given to you, |
| 5 en écoutant les paroles de mes serviteurs les prophètes, que je vous ai envoyés, me levant dès le matin, et que vous n'avez pas écoutés, | 5 so that you listen to the words of my servants, the prophets, whom I have sent to you, who arise while it is still night, and though they give guidance, you do not listen, |
| 6 je traiterai cette maison comme Silo, et je rendrai (livrerai) cette ville l'exécration de (en malédiction à) tous les peuples de la terre. | 6 then I will make this house like Shiloh, and I will make this city into a curse for all the nations of the earth.” |
| 7 Les prêtres, les prophètes et tout le peuple entendirent Jérémie qui disait ces paroles dans la maison du Seigneur. | 7 And the priests, and the prophets, and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the Lord. |
| 8 Et lorsque Jérémie eut achevé de dire tout ce que le Seigneur lui avait ordonné de dire à tout le peuple, les prêtres, les prophètes et tout le peuple se saisirent de lui, en disant : Il faut qu'il meure (de mort, note). | 8 And when Jeremiah had completed speaking all that the Lord had instructed him to speak to all the people, then the priests, and the prophets, and all the people apprehended him, saying: “You shall be put to death.” |
| 9 Pourquoi a-t-il prophétisé au nom du Seigneur, en disant : Cette maison sera comme Silo, et cette ville sera dévastée sans qu'il reste d'habitants ? Alors tout le peuple s'attroupa contre Jérémie dans la maison du Seigneur. | 9 “Why has he prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying: ‘Like Shiloh, so shall this house be,’ and, ‘This city shall be made desolate, even without an inhabitant?’ ” And all the people were gathered together against Jeremiah in the house of the Lord. |
| 10 Les princes de Juda ayant appris (entendirent) ces choses (paroles), montèrent de la maison du roi à la maison du Seigneur, et s'assirent à l'entrée de la porte neuve de la maison du Seigneur. | 10 And the leaders of Judah heard these words. And they ascended from the house of the king to the house of the Lord, and they sat at the entrance by the new gate of the house of the Lord. |
| 11 Les prêtres et les prophètes parlèrent aux princes et à tout le peuple, en disant : Cet homme mérite la mort (un jugement de mort), car il a prophétisé contre cette ville, comme vous l'avez entendu de vos oreilles. | 11 And the priests and the prophets spoke to the leaders and to all the people, saying: “A judgment of death is for this man. For he has prophesied against this city, just as you have heard with your own ears.” |
| 12 Jérémie dit à tous les princes et à tout le peuple : Le Seigneur m'a envoyé pour prédire à cette maison et à cette ville toutes les choses que vous avez entendues. | 12 And Jeremiah spoke to all the leaders and to the entire people, saying: “The Lord has sent me to prophesy, about this house and about this city, all the words that you have heard. |
| 13 Améliorez (Rendez) donc maintenant (droites) vos voies et vos penchants (œuvres), et écoutez la parole du Seigneur votre Dieu, et le Seigneur se repentira du mal qu'il a proféré (annoncé) contre vous. | 13 Now, therefore, make your ways and your intentions good, and heed the voice of the Lord your God. And then the Lord will repent of the evil that he has spoken against you. |
| 14 Pour moi, me voici entre vos mains, faites-moi ce qui est bon et juste à vos yeux. | 14 But as for me, behold, I am in your hands. Do to me what is good and right in your eyes. |
| 15 Cependant sachez et apprenez que si vous me faites mourir, vous livrerez le (un) sang innocent, contre vous-mêmes, et contre cette ville et ses habitants, car le Seigneur m'a véritablement envoyé vers vous, pour prononcer toutes ces paroles à vos oreilles. | 15 Yet truly, know and understand this: if you kill me, you will be bringing innocent blood against yourselves, and against this city and its inhabitants. For in truth, the Lord sent me to you, so as to speak all these words in your hearing.” |
| 16 Et les princes et tout le peuple dirent aux prêtres et aux prophètes : Cet homme n'a pas mérité la mort (un jugement de mort), car il nous a parlé au nom du Seigneur notre Dieu. | 16 And then the leaders and all the people said to the priests and to the prophets: “There is no judgment of death against this man. For he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.” |
| 17 Alors quelques-uns des plus anciens du pays se levèrent, et dirent à toute l'assemblée du peuple : | 17 Then some of the elders of the land rose up. And they spoke to the entire assembly of the people, saying: |
| 18 Michée de Morasthi prophétisa au temps d'Ezéchias, roi de Juda, et il parla à tout le peuple de Juda, en ces termes : Voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées : Sion sera labourée comme un champ, Jérusalem deviendra un monceau de pierres, et la montagne de la maison du Seigneur une haute forêt. | 18 “Micah from Moresheth was a prophet in the days of Hezekiah, the king of Judah, and he spoke to all the people of Judah, saying: ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: Zion will be ploughed like a field. And Jerusalem will be a pile of stones. And the mountain of the house will be like the forests of high places.’ |
| 19 Ezéchias, roi de Juda, et tout le peuple le condamnèrent-ils à mort ? Ne craignirent-ils pas le Seigneur et n'implorèrent-ils pas la face du Seigneur, et le Seigneur ne s'est-il pas repenti du mal qu'il avait prononcé contre eux ? Aussi nous faisons un grand mal contre nos âmes. | 19 Did the king of Judah, Hezekiah, with all of Judah, condemn him to death? Did they not fear the Lord, and petition the face of the Lord? And so the Lord repented of the evil that he had spoken against them. Therefore, we are committing a great evil against our own souls. |
| 20 Il y eut aussi un homme qui prophétisait au nom du Seigneur, Urie, fils de Séméi, de Cariathiarim, et il prophétisa contre cette ville et contre ce pays toutes les mêmes choses que Jérémie. | 20 Likewise, there was a man prophesying in the name of the Lord: Uriah, the son of Shemaiah, of Kiriath-jearim. And he prophesied against this city and against this land, in accord with all the words of Jeremiah. |
| 21 Et le roi Joakim, et tous les puissants de sa cour et ses princes entendirent ces paroles, et le roi chercha à le faire mourir ; Urie l'apprit, et il eut peur, et il s'enfuit, et alla en Egypte. | 21 And king Jehoiakim, with all his warriors and leaders, heard these words. And so the king sought to put him to death. And Uriah heard, and was afraid, and fled, and he entered into Egypt. |
| 22 Et le roi Joakim envoya des hommes en Egypte, Elnathan, fils d'Achobor, et des hommes avec lui en Egypte, | 22 And king Jehoiakim sent men into Egypt: Elnathan, the son of Achbor, and the men who went with him into Egypt. |
| 23 et ils firent sortir Urie d'Egypte, et ils l'amenèrent au roi Joakim, qui le frappa du glaive, et jeta son cadavre dans les sépulcres des derniers du peuple. | 23 And they led Uriah out of Egypt. And they brought him to king Jehoiakim, and he struck him down with the sword. And he cast his dead body among the graves of the common people.” |
| 24 Cependant la main d'Ahicam, fils de Saphan, fut avec Jérémie, et empêcha qu'il ne fût livré aux mains du peuple et qu'on ne le mît à mort. | 24 But the hand of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, was with Jeremiah, so that he would not be delivered into the hands of the people, and so that they would not put him to death. |
