| 1 Josaphat s'endormit avec ses pères, et il fut enseveli avec eux dans la ville (cité) de David ; et son fils Joram régna à sa place. | 1 And Josaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with them in the city of David: and Joram his son reigned in his stead. |
| 2 Joram eut pour frères Azarias, Jahiel, Zacharie, Azarias, Michel et Saphatias, tous fils de Josaphat, roi de Juda. | 2 And he had brethren the sons of Josaphat, Azarias, and Jahiel, and Zacharias, and Azaria, and Michael, and Saphatias, all these were the sons of Josaphat king of Juda. |
| 3 Leur père leur donna des présents considérables en argent et en or, avec des pensions, et des villes très fortes dans le royaume de Juda ; mais il donna le royaume à Joram, parce qu'il était l'aîné. | 3 And their father gave them great gifts of silver, and of gold, and pensions, with strong cities in Juda: but the kingdom he gave to Joram, because he was the eldest. |
| 4 Joram prit donc possession du royaume de son père, et, lorsqu'il s'y fut affermi, il fit mourir par l'épée tous ses frères et quelques-uns des princes d'Israël. | 4 So Joram rose up over the kingdom of his father: and when he had established himself, he slew all his brethren with the sword, and some of the princes of Israel. |
| 5 Joram avait trente-deux ans lorsqu'il commença à régner, et il régna huit ans à Jérusalem. | 5 Joram was two and thirty years old when he began to reign: and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. |
| 6 Il marcha dans les voies des rois d'Israël, comme avait fait la maison d'Achab ; car sa femme était (la) fille d'Achab ; et il fit le mal en la présence du Seigneur. | 6 And he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Achab had done: for his wife was a daughter of Achab, and he did evil in the sight of the Lord. |
| 7 Cependant le Seigneur ne voulut pas perdre la maison de David, à cause de l'alliance qu'il avait faite avec lui, et parce qu'il lui avait promis qu'il lui donnerait toujours une lampe, à lui et à ses fils. | 7 But the Lord would not destroy the house of David: because of the covenant which he had made with him: and because he had promised to give a lamp to him, and to his sons for ever. |
| 8 Edom se révolta alors pour n'être plus assujetti à Juda, et se donna un roi. | 8 In those days Edom revolted, from being subject to Juda, and made themselves a king. |
| 9 Joram partit avec ses princes, et toute sa cavalerie qui le suivait, et, s'étant levé la nuit, il attaqua et défit Edom, qui l'avait environné, et tous les chefs de la cavalerie ennemie. | 9 And Joram went over with his princes, and all his cavalry with him, and rose in the night, and defeated the Edomites who had surrounded him, and all the captains of his cavalry. |
| 10 Edom a continué néanmoins de se révolter jusqu'à ce jour, pour n'être plus sous la puissance de Juda. En ce même temps, Lobna se retira aussi de l'obéissance de Joram, parce qu'il avait abandonné le Seigneur, le Dieu de ses pères. | 10 However Edom revolted, from being under the dominion of Juda unto this day: at that time Lobna also revolted, from being under his hand. For he had forsaken the Lord the God of his fathers: |
| 11 Il fit faire outre cela des hauts lieux dans les villes de Juda ; et il engagea les habitants de Jérusalem dans la fornication, et rendit Juda prévaricateur. | 11 Moreover he built also high places in the cities of Juda, and he made the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, and Juda to transgress. |
| 12 Or on lui apporta des lettres du prophète Elie, où il était écrit : Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, le Dieu de votre père David : Parce que tu n'as pas marché dans les voies de ton père Josaphat, ni dans celle d'Asa, roi de Juda, | 12 And there was a letter brought him from Elias the prophet, in which it was written: Thus saith the Lord the God of David thy father: Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Josaphat thy father nor in the ways of Asa king of Juda, |
| 13 mais que tu as suivi l'exemple des rois d'Israël, et que tu as fait tomber Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem dans la fornication, imitant la fornication de la maison d'Achab, et que de plus tu as tué tes frères, qui étaient de la maison de ton père, et meilleurs que toi : | 13 But hast walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and hast made Juda and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, imitating the fornication of the house of Achab, moreover also thou hast killed thy brethren, the house of thy father, better men than thyself, |
| 14 le Seigneur va aussi te frapper d'une grande plaie, toi et ton peuple, tes enfants (fils), tes femmes, et tout ce qui t'appartient. | 14 Behold the Lord will strike thee with a great plague, with all thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy substance. |
| 15 (Mais toi) Tu seras frappé d'une hideuse maladie d'entrailles, qui te fera rejeter tous les jours peu à peu tes entrailles. | 15 And thou shalt be sick of a very grievous disease of thy bowels, till thy vital parts come out by little and little every day. |
| 16 Le Seigneur excita donc contre Joram l'esprit des Philistins, et des Arabes voisins des Ethiopiens. | 16 And the Lord stirred up against Joram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, who border on the Ethiopians. |
| 17 Et ils entrèrent dans la terre de Juda, la ravagèrent, et pillèrent tout ce qu'ils trouvèrent dans le palais du roi, et emmenèrent ses fils et ses femmes ; de sorte qu'il ne lui resta d'autre fils que Joachaz, le plus jeune de tous. | 17 And they came up into the land of Juda, and wasted it, and they carried away all the substance that was found in the king's house, his sons also, and his wives: so that there was no son left him but Joachaz, who was the youngest. |
| 18 Et par-dessus tout cela, Dieu le frappa d'une maladie d'entrailles (intestins) incurable. | 18 And besides all this the Lord struck him with an incurable disease in his bowels. |
| 19 Ainsi les jours et les temps se succédant les uns les autres, deux années se passèrent, de sorte qu'étant consumé et pourri par la longueur du mal, il rejetait même ses entrailles. Il ne trouva la fin de son mal que dans celle de sa vie. Il mourut donc d'une très horrible maladie (infirmité très cruelle) ; et le peuple ne brûla pas de parfums en son honneur (en le brûlant) selon la coutume, comme il avait fait pour ses aïeux. | 19 And as day came after day, and time rolled on, two whole years passed: then after being wasted with a long consumption, so as to void his very bowels, his disease ended with his life. And he died of a most wretched illness, and the people did not make a funeral for him according to the manner of burning, as they had done for his ancestors. |
| 20 Joram avait trente-deux ans quand il commença à régner, et il régna huit ans à Jérusalem ; mais il ne marcha pas avec un cœur droit. On l'enterra dans la ville (cité) de David, mais non dans le sépulcre des rois. | 20 He was two and thirty years old when he began his reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. And he walked not rightly, and they buried him in the city of David: but not in the sepulchres of the kings. |
