| 1 Or Elisée parla à la femme dont il avait ressuscité le fils, et il lui dit : Lève-toi et va, toi et ta famille, et séjourne partout où tu pourras ; car le Seigneur a appelé la famine, et elle viendra sur la terre pendant sept ans. | 1 Then spake Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the LORD hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years. |
| 2 Elle se leva, et fit ce que l'homme de Dieu lui avait dit ; et s'en allant avec sa famille, elle demeura longtemps dans la terre des Philistins. | 2 And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God: and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years. |
| 3 Après que les sept années furent passées, cette femme revint du pays des Philistins, et elle alla implorer le roi au sujet de sa maison et de ses terres. | 3 And it came to pass at the seven years' end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land. |
| 4 Le roi parlait alors avec Giézi, serviteur de l'homme de Dieu, et lui disait : Raconte-moi toutes les merveilles (grandesœuvres) qu'a faites Elisée. | 4 And the king talked with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done. |
| 5 Et comme Giézi rapportait au roi de quelle manière Elisée avait ressuscité un mort, cette femme dont il avait ressuscité le fils se présenta au roi, le conjurant de lui faire rendre sa maison et ses terres. Alors Giézi dit : Mon seigneur le roi, voici cette femme, et voici son fils qu'Elisée a ressuscité. | 5 And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life. |
| 6 Le roi interrogea la femme, et elle lui fit (tout) le récit. Et le roi envoya avec elle un eunuque, en disant : Fais-lui rendre tout ce qui est à elle, et tous les revenus de ses terres depuis le jour où elle est sortie du pays jusqu'à maintenant. | 6 And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now. |
| 7 Elisée vint aussi à Damas, et Bénadad, roi de Syrie, était malade ; et ses gens lui dirent : L'homme de Dieu est venu ici. | 7 And Elisha came to Damascus; and Ben-hadad the king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, The man of God is come hither. |
| 8 Et le roi dit à Hazaël : Prends des présents et va au-devant de l'homme de Dieu, et consulte par lui le Seigneur, en disant : Guérirai-je de cette maladie ? | 8 And the king said unto Hazael, Take a present in thine hand, and go, meet the man of God, and inquire of the LORD by him, saying, Shall I recover of this disease? |
| 9 Hazaël alla donc au-devant de lui, ayant avec lui des présents, tout ce qu'il y avait de plus précieux à (de toutes les bonnes choses de) Damas, la charge de quarante chameaux. Hazaël, s'étant présenté devant Elisée, lui dit : Bénadad, roi de Syrie, ton fils, m'a envoyé vers toi, en disant : Guérirai-je de cette maladie ? | 9 So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels' burden, and came and stood before him, and said, Thy son Ben-hadad king of Syria hath sent me to thee, saying, Shall I recover of this disease? |
| 10 Elisée lui répondit : Va, dis-lui : Vous guérirez ; mais le Seigneur m'a fait voir qu'il mourra certainement (de mort). | 10 And Elisha said unto him, Go, say unto him, Thou mayest certainly recover: howbeit the LORD hath shewed me that he shall surely die. |
| 11 Et l'homme de Dieu se tint avec Hazaël, et se troubla jusqu'à faire paraître son émotion sur son visage (rougit), et il pleura. | 11 And he settled his countenance stedfastly, until he was ashamed: and the man of God wept. |
| 12 Hazaël lui dit : Pourquoi mon seigneur pleure-t-il ? Elisée lui répondit : Parce que je sais combien de maux tu feras aux fils d'Israël. Tu brûleras leurs villes fortes, tu tueras par l'épée leurs jeunes hommes, tu écraseras leurs (petits) enfants, et tu fendras le ventre aux (couperas en deux leurs) femmes enceintes. | 12 And Hazael said, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that thou wilt do unto the children of Israel: their strong holds wilt thou set on fire, and their young men wilt thou slay with the sword, and wilt dash their children, and rip up their women with child. |
| 13 Et Hazaël lui dit : Qui suis-je, moi ce (un) chien, ton serviteur, pour faire de si grandes choses ? Elisée lui répondit : Le Seigneur m'a fait voir que tu seras roi de Syrie. | 13 And Hazael said, But what, is thy servant a dog, that he should do this great thing? And Elisha answered, The LORD hath shewed me that thou shalt be king over Syria. |
| 14 Hazaël quitta Elisée et revint auprès de son maître, qui lui dit : Que t'a dit Elisée ? Il lui répondit : Il m'a dit que vous recouvrerez la santé. | 14 So he departed from Elisha, and came to his master; who said to him, What said Elisha to thee? And he answered, He told me that thou shouldest surely recover. |
| 15 Le lendemain, Hazaël prit une couverture qu'il trempa dans l'eau, et il l'étendit sur le visage du roi ; et le roi étant mort, Hazaël régna à sa place. | 15 And it came to pass on the morrow, that he took a thick cloth, and dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died: and Hazael reigned in his stead. |
| 16 La cinquième année de Joram, fils d'Achab, roi d'Israël, et de Josaphat, roi de Juda, Joram, fils de Josaphat, régna sur Juda. | 16 And in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah began to reign. |
| 17 Il avait trente-deux ans lorsqu'il commença à régner, et il régna huit ans à Jérusalem. | 17 Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. |
| 18 Il marcha dans les voies des rois d'Israël, comme la maison d'Achab y avait marché, car sa femme était fille d'Achab ; et il fit le mal devant le Seigneur. | 18 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for the daughter of Ahab was his wife: and he did evil in the sight of the LORD. |
| 19 Mais le Seigneur ne voulut pas perdre (entièrement) Juda, à cause de David son serviteur, selon la promesse qu'il lui avait faite de lui conserver toujours une lampe dans la suite de ses descendants. | 19 Yet the LORD would not destroy Judah for David his servant's sake, as he promised him to give him alway a light, and to his children. |
| 20 Pendant son règne, Edom se retira de Juda pour ne lui être plus assujetti, et il se donna un roi. | 20 In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves. |
| 21 Mais Joram vint à Séira avec tous ses chars, et il sortit la nuit contre les Iduméens qui l'avaient environné, et il les battit, ainsi que les chefs des chars ; et le peuple s'enfuit dans ses tentes (tabernacles). | 21 So Joram went over to Zair, and all the chariots with him: and he rose by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots: and the people fled into their tents. |
| 22 Edom se retira donc de Juda, ne voulant plus être assujetti ; ce qui a lieu encore aujourd'hui. Lobna se révolta aussi en ce même temps. | 22 Yet Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time. |
| 23 Le reste des actions de Joram, et tout ce qu'il a fait, est écrit dans les annales (actions des jours) des rois de Juda. | 23 And the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? |
| 24 Et Joram s'endormit avec ses pères, et il fut enseveli avec eux dans la ville (cité) de David, et son fils Ochozias régna à sa place. | 24 And Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead. |
| 25 La douzième année de Joram, fils d'Achab, roi d'Israël, Ochozias, fils de Joram, roi de Juda, commença à régner. | 25 In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel did Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah begin to reign. |
| 26 Il avait vingt-deux ans quand il commença à régner, et il régna un an à Jérusalem. Sa mère s'appelait Athalie, et était fille d'Amri, roi d'Israël. | 26 Two and twenty years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri king of Israel. |
| 27 Il marcha dans les voies de la maison d'Achab, et il fit le mal devant le Seigneur comme la maison d'Achab, parce qu'il était gendre de la maison d'Achab. | 27 And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the LORD, as did the house of Ahab: for he was the son in law of the house of Ahab. |
| 28 Il marcha aussi avec Joram, fils d'Achab, pour combattre contre Hazaël, roi de Syrie, à Ramoth de Galaad ; et Joram fut blessé par les Syriens. | 28 And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to the war against Hazael king of Syria in Ramoth-gilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram. |
| 29 Il revint à Jezrahel pour se faire traiter de la blessure qu'il avait reçue à Ramoth, en combattant contre Hazaël, roi de Syrie. Et (Or) Ochozias, fils de Joram, roi de Juda, vint à Jezrahel pour voir Joram, fils d'Achab, parce qu'il y était malade. | 29 And king Joram went back to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick. |
