| 1 (Or) Abraham épousa une autre femme, nommée Cétura, | 1 Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah. |
| 2 qui lui enfanta Zamran, Jecsan, Madan, Madian, Jesboc, et Sué. | 2 And she bare him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah. |
| 3 Jecsan engendra Saba et Dadan. Les enfants de Dadan furent Assurim, Latusim, et Loomim. | 3 And Jokshan begat Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim. |
| 4 Les enfants de Madian furent Epha, Opher, Hénoch, Abida et Eldaa. Tous ceux-ci furent enfants de Cétura. | 4 And the sons of Midian; Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah. |
| 5 Abraham donna à Isaac tout ce qu'il possédait. | 5 And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac. |
| 6 Il fit des présents aux fils de ses autres femmes, et de son vivant il les sépara de son fils Isaac, les faisant aller dans le pays qui regarde l'orient. | 6 But unto the sons of the concubines, which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country. |
| 7 Tout le temps de la vie d'Abraham fut de cent soixante-quinze ans. | 7 And these are the days of the years of Abraham's life which he lived, an hundred threescore and fifteen years. |
| 8 Et les forces lui manquant, il mourut dans une heureuse vieillesse et un âge très avancé, étant parvenu à la plénitude de ses jours ; et il fut réuni à son peuple. | 8 Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people. |
| 9 Isaac et Ismaël, ses fils, le portèrent en (dans) la caverne double, située dans le champ d'Ephron, fils de Séor l'Héthéen, vis-à-vis de Mambré, | 9 And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre; |
| 10 qu'il avait acheté des enfants de Heth. C'est là qu'il fut enterré aussi bien que Sara sa femme. | 10 The field which Abraham purchased of the sons of Heth: there was Abraham buried, and Sarah his wife. |
| 11 Après sa mort, Dieu bénit son fils Isaac, qui demeurait près du puits nommé le puits de celui qui vit et qui voit (du Vivant et du voyant). | 11 And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahai-roi. |
| 12 Voici le dénombrement des enfants (générations) d'Ismaël fils d'Abraham et d'Agar l'Egyptienne, servante de Sara ; | 12 Now these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's handmaid, bare unto Abraham: |
| 13 et voici les noms de ses enfants (fils), selon que les ont portés ceux qui sont descendus d'eux. Le premier-né d'Ismaël fut Nabaïoth. Les autres furent Cédar, Adbéel, Mabsam, | 13 And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam, |
| 14 Masma, Duma, Massa, | 14 And Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa, |
| 15 Adar, Théma, Séthur, Naphis, et Cedma. | 15 Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah: |
| 16 Ce sont là les enfants d'Ismaël ; et tels ont été les noms qu'ils ont donnés à leurs villages et à leurs campements (châteaux), ayant été les douze chefs (pinces) de leurs peuples (tribus). | 16 These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their towns, and by their castles; twelve princes according to their nations. |
| 17 (Or) Le temps de la vie d'Ismaël fut de cent trente-sept ans ; et les forces lui manquant, il mourut, et fut réuni à son peuple. | 17 And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, an hundred and thirty and seven years: and he gave up the ghost and died; and was gathered unto his people. |
| 18 Le pays où il habita fut depuis (l') Hévila jusqu'à Sur, qui regarde l'Egypte dans la direction de (quand on entre dans) l'Assyrie ; et il mourut au milieu (en présence) de tous ses frères. | 18 And they dwelt from Havilah unto Shur, that is before Egypt, as thou goest toward Assyria: and he died in the presence of all his brethren. |
| 19 Voici quelle fut aussi la postérité (les générations) d'Isaac fils d'Abraham. Abraham engendra Isaac ; | 19 And these are the generations of Isaac, Abraham's son: Abraham begat Isaac: |
| 20 lequel ayant quarante ans, épousa Rébecca, fille de Bathuel, Syrien de Mésopotamie, et sœur de Laban. | 20 And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan-aram, the sister to Laban the Syrian. |
| 21 (Or) Isaac pria le Seigneur pour sa femme, parce qu'elle était stérile ; et le Seigneur l'exauça, donnant à Rébecca la vertu de concevoir. | 21 And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived. |
| 22 Mais les deux enfants (dont elle était grosse) s'entrechoquaient dans son sein ; ce qui lui fit dire : Si cela devait m'arriver, qu'était-il besoin que je conçusse ? Elle alla donc consulter le Seigneur, | 22 And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to inquire of the LORD. |
| 23 qui lui répondit : Deux nations sont dans tes entrailles, et deux peuples sortant de ton sein se diviseront l'un contre l'autre. L'un de ces peuples surmontera l'autre peuple, et l'aîné sera assujetti au plus jeune. | 23 And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger. |
| 24 Lorsque le temps où elle devait enfanter fut arrivé, elle se trouva mère de deux jumeaux (dans son sein). | 24 And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. |
| 25 Celui qui sortit le premier était roux, et tout velu comme une peau, et il fut nommé Esaü. L'autre sortit aussitôt, et il tenait de sa main le pied de son frère. C'est pourquoi il fut nommé Jacob. | 25 And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau. |
| 26 Isaac avait soixante ans lorsque ces deux enfants lui naquirent. | 26 And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them. |
| 27 Quand ils furent grands, Esaü devint habile à la chasse, et homme des champs ; mais Jacob était un homme simple, et il demeurait à la maison (sous les tentes). | 27 And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents. |
| 28 Isaac aimait Esaü, parce qu'il mangeait de ce qu'il prenait à la chasse ; mais Rébecca aimait Jacob. | 28 And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob. |
| 29 Un jour, Jacob ayant fait cuire de quoi manger, Esaü retourna des champs étant fort las ; | 29 And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint: |
| 30 et il dit à Jacob : Donne-moi de ce mets roux, parce que je suis extrêmement las (fatigué). C'est pour cette raison qu'il fut depuis nommé Edom. | 30 And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. |
| 31 Jacob lui dit : Vends-moi ton droit d'aînesse. | 31 And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright. |
| 32 Esaü lui répondit : Je me meurs ; de quoi me servira mon droit d'aînesse ? | 32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me? |
| 33 Jure-le moi donc, lui dit Jacob. Esaü le lui jura, et lui vendit son droit d'aînesse. | 33 And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob. |
| 34 Et ainsi, ayant pris du pain et ce plat de lentilles, il mangea et but, et s'en alla, se mettant peu en peine de ce qu'il avait vendu son droit d'aînesse. | 34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright. |
