| 1 Abram étant donc sorti de l'Egypte avec sa femme et tout ce qu'il possédait, et Lot avec lui, alla du côté du midi. | 1 So Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the Negeb. |
| 2 Il (Or Abram) était très riche, et il avait beaucoup d'or et d'argent. | 2 Now Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold. |
| 3 Il revint par le même chemin qu'il était venu du midi à Béthel, jusqu'au lieu où il avait auparavant dressé sa tente, entre Béthel et Haï, | 3 And he journeyed on from the Negeb as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, |
| 4 où était l'autel qu'il avait bâti ; et il invoqua (en ce lieu) le nom du Seigneur. | 4 to the place where he had made an altar at the first; and there Abram called on the name of the LORD. |
| 5 Or Lot, qui était avec Abram, avait aussi des troupeaux de brebis, des troupeaux de bœufs et des tentes. | 5 And Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents, |
| 6 Le pays ne leur suffisait pas pour pouvoir demeurer l'un avec l'autre, parce que leurs biens étaient fort grands, et ils ne pouvaient subsister (habiter) ensemble. | 6 so that the land could not support both of them dwelling together; for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together, |
| 7 C'est pourquoi (De là) il s'excita une querelle entre les pasteurs d'Abram et ceux de Lot. (Or) En ce temps-là les Chananéens et les Phéréséens habitaient en cette terre. | 7 and there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's cattle and the herdsmen of Lot's cattle. At that time the Canaanites and the Perizzites dwelt in the land. |
| 8 Abram dit donc à Lot : Qu'il n'y ait point, je te prie, de dispute entre toi et moi, ni entre mes pasteurs et les tiens, parce que nous sommes frères. | 8 Then Abram said to Lot, "Let there be no strife between you and me, and between your herdsmen and my herdsmen; for we are kinsmen. |
| 9 Voici que tu as devant vous toute la contrée. Retire-toi, je te prie, d'auprès de moi. Si tu vas à la gauche, je prendrai la droite ; si tu choisis la droite, j'irai à gauche. | 9 Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me. If you take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if you take the right hand, then I will go to the left." |
| 10 Lot élevant donc les yeux, considéra (vit) tout le pays situé le long du Jourdain, et qui, avant que Dieu détruisit Sodome et Gomorrhe, était un pays tout arrosé d'eau, comme un paradis de Dieu, et comme l'Egypte quand on vient à Ségor. | 10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and saw that the Jordan valley was well watered everywhere like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, in the direction of Zoar; this was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. |
| 11 Et il fit choix de la région qui entoure le Jourdain et il se retira de l'orient. Ainsi les deux frères se séparèrent l'un de l'autre. | 11 So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan valley, and Lot journeyed east; thus they separated from each other. |
| 12 Abram demeura dans la terre de Chanaan, et Lot dans les villes aux environs du Jourdain ; et il habita dans Sodome. | 12 Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, while Lot dwelt among the cities of the valley and moved his tent as far as Sodom. |
| 13 Or les habitants de Sodome étaient devant le Seigneur des hommes perdus de vices (très méchants (mauvais)) ; et leur corruption était montée à son comble (de très grands pécheurs devant le Seigneur). | 13 Now the men of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against the LORD. |
| 14 Le Seigneur dit donc à Abram, après que Lot se fut séparé d'avec lui : Lève tes yeux, et regarde du lieu où tu es, au septentrion (à l'aquilon) et au midi, à l'orient et à l'occident. | 14 The LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, "Lift up your eyes, and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward; |
| 15 Tout ce pays que tu vois, je te le donnerai, et à ta postérité pour jamais. | 15 for all the land which you see I will give to you and to your descendants for ever. |
| 16 Je multiplierai ta race comme la poussière de la terre. Si quelqu'un d'entre les hommes peut compter la poussière de la terre, il pourra compter aussi la suite de tes descendants. | 16 I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if one can count the dust of the earth, your descendants also can be counted. |
| 17 Lève-toi, et parcours toute l'étendue de cette terre dans sa longueur et dans sa largeur, parce que je te la donnerai. | 17 Arise, walk through the length and the breadth of the land, for I will give it to you." |
| 18 Abram levant donc sa tente, vint demeurer près de la vallée de Mambré, qui est vers Hébron ; et il dressa là un autel au Seigneur. | 18 So Abram moved his tent, and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are at Hebron; and there he built an altar to the LORD. |
