| 1 Or (Mais) le Seigneur dit à Abram : Sors de ton pays, de ta parenté, et de la maison de ton père, et viens en (dans) la terre que je te montrerai. | 1 The LORD said to Abram: "Go forth from the land of your kinsfolk and from your father's house to a land that I will show you. |
| 2 Je ferai sortir de toi un grand peuple ; je te bénirai ; je rendrai ton nom célèbre, et tu seras béni. | 2 "I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. |
| 3 Je bénirai ceux qui te béniront, et je maudirai ceux qui te maudiront ; et tous les peuples de la terre seront bénis en toi. | 3 I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. All the communities of the earth shall find blessing in you." |
| 4 Abram sortit donc comme le Seigneur le lui avait commandé, et Lot alla avec lui. Abram avait soixante-quinze ans lorsqu'il sortit de Haran. | 4 Abram went as the LORD directed him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. |
| 5 Il prit avec lui Saraï sa femme, et Lot, fils de son frère, tout le bien qu'ils possédaient, avec toutes les personnes dont ils avaient augmenté leur famille (âmes qu'il avait acquises) à Haran, et ils sortirent pour aller dans le pays de Chanaan. Lorsqu'ils y furent arrivés, | 5 Abram took his wife Sarai, his brother's son Lot, all the possessions that they had accumulated, and the persons they had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan. When they came to the land of Canaan, |
| 6 Abram passa au travers du pays jusqu'au lieu appelé Sichem, et jusqu'à la vallée illustre. Les Chananéens occupaient alors ce pays-là. | 6 Abram passed through the land as far as the sacred place at Shechem, by the terebinth of Moreh. (The Canaanites were then in the land.) |
| 7 Or le Seigneur apparut à Abram, et lui dit : Je donnerai ce pays à ta postérité. Abram dressa en ce lieu-là un autel au Seigneur, qui lui était apparu. | 7 The LORD appeared to Abram and said, "To your descendants I will give this land." So Abram built an altar there to the LORD who had appeared to him. |
| 8 Etant passé de là vers une montagne qui est à l'orient de Béthel, il y tendit (dressa) sa tente, ayant Béthel à l'occident, et Haï à l'orient. Il dressa encore en ce lieu-là un autel au Seigneur, et il invoqua son nom. | 8 From there he moved on to the hill country east of Bethel, pitching his tent with Bethel to the west and Ai to the east. He built an altar there to the LORD and invoked the LORD by name. |
| 9 Abram alla (encore plus loin), marchant toujours et s'avançant vers le midi. | 9 Then Abram journeyed on by stages to the Negeb. |
| 10 Mais la famine étant survenue en ce pays-là, Abram descendit en Egypte pour y passer quelque temps, parce que la famine était grande dans le pays qu'il quittait. | 10 There was famine in the land; so Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, since the famine in the land was severe. |
| 11 Lorsqu'il était prêt d'entrer en Egypte, il dit à Saraï sa femme : Je sais que tu es belle ; | 11 When he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai: "I know well how beautiful a woman you are. |
| 12 et que quand les Egyptiens t'auront vue, ils diront : C'est la femme de cet homme-là ; et ils me tueront, et te réserveront (conserveront). | 12 When the Egyptians see you, they will say, 'She is his wife'; then they will kill me, but let you live. |
| 13 Dis donc, je te supplie, que tu es ma sœur ; afin que ces gens-ci me traitent favorablement à cause de toi, et qu'ils me conversent la vie (mon âme vive) en ta considération. | 13 Please say, therefore, that you are my sister, so that it may go well with me on your account and my life may be spared for your sake." |
| 14 Abram étant entré ensuite en Egypte, les Egyptiens virent que cette femme était très belle. | 14 When Abram came to Egypt, the Egyptians saw how beautiful the woman was; and when Pharaoh's courtiers saw her, |
| 15 Et les princes du pays en ayant donné avis au Pharaon, et l'ayant fort louée devant lui, elle fut enlevée et menée au palais (dans la maison) du Pharaon. | 15 they praised her to Pharaoh. So she was taken into Pharaoh's palace. |
| 16 Ils en usèrent bien à l'égard d'Abram à cause d'elle ; et il reçut des brebis et des bœufs, et des ânes, et des serviteurs, et des servantes, et des ânesses, et des chameaux. | 16 On her account it went very well with Abram, and he received flocks and herds, male and female slaves, male and female asses, and camels. |
| 17 Mais le Seigneur frappa de très grandes plaies le Pharaon et sa maison, à cause de Saraï femme d'Abram. | 17 But the LORD struck Pharaoh and his household with severe plagues because of Abram's wife Sarai. |
| 18 Et (Alors) le Pharaon ayant fait venir Abram, lui dit : Pourquoi as-tu agi avec moi de cette sorte ? Que ne m'as-tu averti qu'elle était ta femme ? | 18 Then Pharaoh summoned Abram and said to him: "How could you do this to me! Why didn't you tell me she was your wife? |
| 19 D'où vient que tu as dit qu'elle était ta sœur, pour me donner lieu de la prendre pour ma femme ? Voilà donc maintenant ta femme ; prends-la, et va-t'en. | 19 Why did you say, 'She is my sister,' so that I took her for my wife? Here, then, is your wife. Take her and be gone!" |
| 20 Et le Pharaon ayant donné ordre à ses gens de prendre soin d'Abram, ils le conduisirent jusque hors de l'Egypte avec sa femme, et tout ce qu'il possédait. | 20 Then Pharaoh gave men orders concerning him, and they sent him on his way, with his wife and all that belonged to him. |
