2 Faites un dénombrement de tous les enfants d'Israël, depuis vingt ans et au-dessus, en comptant par maisons et par familles tous ceux qui peuvent aller à la guerre.	2 "Take a census, by ancestral houses, throughout the community of the Israelites of all those of twenty years or more who are fit for military service in Israel."
3 Moïse donc et le grand-prêtre Eléazar étant dans les plaines de Moab, le long du Jourdain, vis-à-vis de Jéricho, parlèrent à ceux qui avaient	3 So on the plains of Moab along the Jericho stretch of the Jordan, Moses and the priest Eleazar registered

7 Ce sont là les familles de la race de Ruben; et il se trouva le nombre de quarante-trois mille sept cent trente hommes.	7 These were the clans of the Reubenites, of whom forty-three thousand seven hundred and thirty men were registered.
8 Eliab fut fils de Phallu,	8 From Pallu descended Eliab,
9 et eut pour fils Namuel, Dathan et Abiron. Ce Dathan et cet Abiron, qui étaient des premiers d'Israël, furent ceux qui s'élevèrent contre Moïse et contre Aaron dans la sédition de Coré, lorsqu'ils se révoltèrent contre le Seigneur,	9 and the descendants of Eliab were Dathan and Abiram-the same Dathan and Abiram, councilors of the community, who revolted against Moses and Aaron (like Korah's band when it rebelled against the LORD).
10 et que la terre s'entr'ouvrant dévora Coré, un grand nombre étant mort en même temps, lorsque le feu brûla deux cent cinquante hommes. Il arriva alors un grand miracle,	10 The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them as a warning (Korah too and the band that died when the fire consumed two hundred and fifty men.

12 Les fils de Siméon furent comptés aussi selon leurs familles, savoir: Namuel, chef de la famille des Namuélites; Jamin, chef de la famille des Jaminites; Jachin, chef de la famille des Jachinites;	12 The Simeonites by clans were: through Nemuel the clan of the Nemuelites, through Jamin the clan of the Jaminites, through Jachin the clan of the Jachinites,
13 Zaré, chef de la famille des Zaréites; Saül, chef de la famille des Saülites.	13 through Sohar the clan of the Soharites, through Shaul the clan of the Shaulites.
14 Ce sont là les familles de la race de Siméon, qui faisaient en tout le nombre de vingt-deux mille deux cents hommes.	14 These were the clans of the Simeonites, of whom twenty-two thousand two hundred men were registered.
15 Les fils de Gad furent comptés par leurs familles, savoir: Séphon, chef de la famille des Séphonites; Aggi, chef de la famille des Aggites; Suni, chef de la famille des Sunites;	15 The Gadites by clans were: through Zephon the clan of the Zephonites, through Haggi the clan of the Haggites, through Shuni the clan of the Shunites,
16 Ozni, chef de la famille des Oznites; Her, chef de la famille des Hérites;	16 through Ozni the clan of the Oznites, through Eri the clan of the Erites,
17 Arod, chef de la famille des Arodites; Ariel, chef de la famille des Ariélites.	17 through Arod the clan of the Arodites, through Areli the clan of the Arelites.
18 Ce sont là les familles de Gad, qui faisaient en tout le nombre de quarante mille cinq cents hommes.	18 These were the clans of the Gadites, of whom forty thousand five hundred men were registered.
19 Les fils de Juda furent Her et Onan, qui moururent tout deux dans le pays de Chanaan.	19 The sons of Judah who died in the land of Canaan were Er and Onan.
20 Et les autres fils de Juda, distingués par leurs familles, furent Séla, chef de la famille des Sélaïtes; Pharès, chef de la famille des Pharésites; Zaré, chef de la famille des Zaréites.	20 The Judahites by clans were: through Shelah the clan of the Shelahites, through Perez the clan of the Perezites, through Zerah the clan of the Zerahites.
21 Les fils de Pharès furent Hesron, chef de la famille des Hesronites; Hamul, chef de la famille des Hamulites.	21 The Perezites were: through Hezron the clan of the Hezronites, through Hamul the clan of the Hamulites.
22 Ce sont là les familles de Juda, qui se trouvèrent au nombre de soixante-seize mille cinq cents hommes.	22 These were the clans of Judah, of whom seventy-six thousand five hundred men were registered.
23 Les fils d'Issachar, distingués par leurs familles, furent Thola, chef de la famille des Tholaïtes; Phua, chef de la famille des Phuaïtes;	23 The Issacharites by clans were: through Tola the clan of the Tolaites, through Puvah the clan of the Puvahites,
24 Jasub, chef de la famille des Jasubites; Semran, chef de la famille des Semranites.	24 through Jashub the clan of the Jashubites, through Shimron the clan of the Shimronites.
25 Ce sont là les familles d'Issachar, qui se trouvèrent au nombre de soixante-quatre mille trois cents hommes.	25 These were the clans of Issachar, of whom sixty-four thousand three hundred men were registered.
26 Les fils de Zabulon, distingués par leurs familles, furent Sared, chef de la famille des Sarédites; Elon, chef de la famille des Elonites; Jalel, chef de la famille des Jalélites.	26 The Zebulunites by clans were: through Sered the clan of the Seredites, through Elon the clan of the Elonites, through Jahleel the clan of the Jahleelites.
27 Ce sont là les familles de Zabulon, qui se trouvèrent au nombre de soixante mille cinq cents hommes.	27 These were the clans of the Zebulunites, of whom sixty thousand five hundred men were registered.
28 Les fils de Joseph, distingués par familles, furent Manassé et Ephraïm.	28 The sons of Joseph were Manasseh and Ephraim.
29 De Manassé sortit Machir, chef de la famille des Machirites. Machir engendra Galaad, chef de la famille des Galaadites.	29 The Manassehites by clans were: through Machir the clan of the Machirites, through Gilead, a descendant of Machir, the clan of the Gileadites.
30 Les fils de Galaad furent Jézer, chef de la famille des Jézérites; Hélec, chef de la famille des Hélécites;	30 The Gileadites were: through Abiezer the clan of the Abiezrites, through Helek the clan of the Helekites,
31 Asriel, chef de la famille des Asriélites; Séchem, chef de la famille des Séchémites;	31 through Asriel the clan of the Asrielites, through Shechem the clan of the Shechemites,
32 Sémida, chef de la famille des Sémidaïtes; et Hepher, chef de la famille des Héphérites.	32 through Shemida the clan of the Shemidaites, through Hepher the clan of the Hepherites.
33 Hépher fut père de Salphaad, qui n'eut point de fils, mais seulement des filles, dont voici les noms: Maala, Noa, Hégla, Melcha et Thersa.	33 Zelophehad, son of Hepher, had no sons, but only daughters, whose names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah.
34 Ce sont là les familles de Manassé, qui se trouvèrent au nombre de cinquante-deux mille sept cents hommes.	34 These were the clans of Manasseh, of whom fifty-two thousand seven hundred men were registered.
35 Les fils d'Ephraïm, distingués par leurs familles, furent ceux-ci: Suthala, chef de la famille des Suthalaïtes; Bécher, chef de la famille des Béchérites; Théhen, chef de la famille des Théhénites.	35 The Ephraimites by clans were: through Shuthelah the clan of the Shuthelahites, through Becher the clan of the Bechrites, through Tahan the clan of the Tahanites.
36 Or le fils de Suthala fut Héran, chef de la famille des Héranites.	36 The Shuthelahites were: through Eran the clan of the Eranites.
37 Ce sont là les familles des fils d'Ephraïm, qui se trouvèrent au nombre de trente-deux mille cinq cents hommes.	37 These were the clans of the Ephraimites, of whom thirty-two thousand five hundred men were registered. These were the descendants of Joseph by clans.
38 Ce sont là les fils de Joseph, distingués par leurs familles. Les fils de Benjamin, distingués par leurs familles, furent: Bala, chef de la famille des Balaïtes; Asbel, chef de la famille des Asbélites; Ahiram, chef de la famille des Ahiramites;	38 The Benjaminites by clans were: through Bela the clan of the Belaites, through Ashbel the clan of the Ashbelites, through Ahiram the clan of the Ahiramites,
39 Supham, chef de la famille des Suphamites; Hupham, chef de la famille des Huphamites.	39 through Shupham the clan of the Shuphamites, through Hupham the clan of the Huphamites.
40 Les fils de Béla furent Héred et Noéman. Héred fut chef de la famille des Hérédites; Noéman fut chef de la famille des Noémanites.	40 The descendants of Bela were Arad and Naaman: through Arad the clan of the Aradites, through Naaman the clan of the Naamanites.
41 Ce sont là les enfants de Benjamin divisés par leurs familles, qui se trouvèrent au nombre de quarante-cinq mille six cents hommes.	41 These were the Benjaminites by clans, of whom forty-five thousand six hundred men were registered.
42 Les fils de Dan, divisés par leurs familles, furent Suham, chef de la famille des Suhamites. Voilà les enfants de Dan divisés par familles.	42 The Danites by clans were: through Shuham the clan of the Shuhamites. These were the clans of Dan,
43 Ils furent tous Suhamites, et se trouvèrent au nombre de soixante-quatre mille quatre cents hommes.	43 of whom sixty-four thousand four hundred men were registered.
44 Les fils d'Aser, distingués par leurs familles, furent: Jemna, chef de la famille des Jemnaïtes; Jessui, chef de la famille des Jessuites; Brié, chef de la famille des Briéites.	44 The Asherites by clans were: through Imnah the clan of the Imnites, through Ishvi the clan of the Ishvites, through Beriah the clan of the Beriites,
45 Les fils de Brié furent Héber, chef de la famille des Hébérites, et Melchiel, chef de la famille des Melchiélites.	45 through Heber the clan of the Heberites, through Malchiel the clan of the Malchielites.
46 Le nom de la fille d'Aser fut Sara.	46 The name of Asher's daughter was Serah.
47 Ce sont là les familles des fils d'Aser, qui se trouvèrent au nombre de cinquante-trois mille quatre cents hommes.	47 These were the clans of Asher, of whom fifty-three thousand four hundred men were registered.
48 Les fils de Nephthali, distingués par leurs familles, furent: Jésiel, chef de la famille des Jésiélites; Guni, chef de la famille des Gunites;	48 The Naphtalites by clans were: through Jahzeel the clan of the Jahzeelites, through Guni the clan of the Gunites,
49 Jéser, chef de la famille des Jésérites; Sellem, chef de la famille des Sellémites.	49 through Jezer the clan of the Jezerites, through Shillem the clan of the Shillemites.
50 Ce sont là les familles de Nephthali distingués par leurs maisons, qui se trouvèrent au nombre de quarante-cinq mille quatre cents hommes.	50 These were the clans of Naphtali, of whom forty-five thousand four hundred men were registered.
51 Et le dénombrement de tous les enfants d'Israël ayant été achevé, il se trouva six cent un mille sept cent trente hommes.	51 These six hundred and one thousand seven hundred and thirty were the Israelites who were registered.
52 Le Seigneur parla ensuite à Moïse, et lui dit:	52 The LORD said to Moses,
53 La terre sera partagée entre tous ceux qui ont été dénombrés, afin qu'ils la possèdent selon la désignation de leurs noms et de leurs familles.	53 "Among these groups the land shall be divided as their heritage in keeping with the number of individuals in each group.
54 Vous en donnerez une plus grande partie à ceux qui seront en plus grand nombre, et une moindre à ceux qui seront en plus petit nombre; et l'héritage sera donné à chacun selon le dénombrement qui vient d'être fait;	54 To a large group you shall assign a large heritage, to a small group a small heritage, each group receiving its heritage in proportion to the number of men registered in it.
55 mais en sorte que la terre soit partagée au sort entre les tribus et les familles.	55 But the land shall be divided by lot, as the heritage of the various ancestral tribes.
56 Et tout ce qui sera échu par le sort sera le partage ou du plus grand nombre, ou du plus petit nombre.	56 As the lot falls shall each group, large or small, be assigned its heritage."
57 Voici aussi le nombre des fils de Lévi, distingués par leurs familles: Gerson, chef de la famille des Gersonites; Caath, chef de la famille des Caathites; Mérari, chef de la famille des Mérarites.	57 The Levites registered by clans were: through Gershon the clan of the Gershonites, through Kohath the clan of the Kohathites, through Merari the clan of the Merarites.
58 Voici les familles de Lévi: la famille de Lobni, la famille d'Hébroni, la famille de Moholi, la famille de Musi, la famille de Coré. Caath engendra Amram,	58 These also were clans of Levi: the clan of the Libnites, the clan of the Hebronites, the clan of the Mahlites, the clan of the Mushites, the clan of the Korahites. Among the descendants of Kohath was Amram,
59 qui eut pour femme Jochabed, fille de Lévi, qui lui naquit en Egypte. Jochabed eut d'Amram, son mari, deux fils, Aaron et Moïse, et Marie, leur soeur.	59 whose wife was named Jochebed. She also was of the tribe of Levi, born to the tribe in Egypt. To Amram she bore Aaron and Moses and their sister Miriam.
60 Aaron eut pour fils Nadab et Abiu, Eléazar et Ithamar.	60 To Aaron were born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
61 Nadab et Abiu, ayant offert un feu étranger devant le Seigneur, furent punis de mort.	61 But Nadab and Abihu died when they offered profane fire before the LORD.
62 Et tous ceux qui furent comptés de la famille de Lévi se trouvèrent au nombre de vingt-trois mille hommes, depuis un mois et au-dessus; parce qu'on n'en fit point le dénombrement avec les enfants d'Israël, et qu'on ne leur donna point d'héritage avec les autres.	62 The total number of male Levites one month or more of age, who were registered, was twenty-three thousand. They were not registered with the other Israelites, however, for no heritage was given them among the Israelites.
63 C'est là le nombre des enfants d'Israël, qui furent comptés par Moïse et par le grand-prêtre Eléazar dans la plaine de Moab, le long du Jourdain, vis-à-vis de Jéricho.	63 These, then, were the men registered by Moses and the priest Eleazar in the census of the Israelites taken on the plains of Moab along the Jericho stretch of the Jordan.
64 Parmi eux, il ne s'en trouva aucun de ceux qui avaient été dénombrés auparavant par Moïse et par Aaron dans le désert du Sinaï.	64 Among them there was not a man of those who had been registered by Moses and the priest Aaron in the census of the Israelites taken in the desert of Sinai.
65 Car le Seigneur avait prédit qu'ils mourraient tous dans le désert. C'est pourquoi il n'en demeura pas un seul, hormis Caleb, fils de Jéphoné, et Josué, fils de Nun.	65 For the LORD had told them that they would surely die in the desert, and not one of them was left except Caleb, son of Jephunneh, and Joshua, son of Nun.
