| 1 Parole qui fut adressée par Jérémie à tous les Juifs qui habitaient dans le pays d'Egypte, à Magdalo, à Taphnis, à Memphis, et dans le pays de Phaturès, en ces termes: | 1 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews which dwell in the land of Egypt, which dwell at Migdol, and at Tahpanhes, and at Noph, and in the country of Pathros, saying, |
| 2 Ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Vous avez vu tous les maux que J'ai fait venir sur Jérusalem et sur toutes les villes de Juda; et voici qu'elles sont désertes aujourd'hui, et sans aucun habitant, | 2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Ye have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of Judah; and, behold, this day they are a desolation, and no man dwelleth therein, |
| 3 à cause de la malice avec laquelle ils ont agi pour exiter Ma colère, en allant sacrifier et rendre hommage à des dieux étrangers, qui n'étaient connus ni d'eux, ni de vous, ni de vos pères. | 3 Because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, and to serve other gods, whom they knew not, neither they, ye, nor your fathers. |
| 4 Je vous ai envoyé tous Mes serviteurs, les prophètes, Me levant dans la nuit, et les envoyant pour vous dire: Ne commettez pas ces abominations que Je hais. | 4 Howbeit I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate. |
| 5 Et ils n'ont pas écouté, et ils n'ont pas prêté l'oreille, de manière à se convertir de leur méchanceté, et à ne plus sacrifier aux dieux étrangers. | 5 But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense unto other gods. |
| 6 Ainsi Ma colère et Ma fureur se sont allumées, et elles ont embrasé les villes de Juda et les places de Jérusalem, qui ont été changées en solitude et en désert, comme on le voit aujourd'hui. | 6 Wherefore my fury and mine anger was poured forth, and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and desolate, as at this day. |
| 7 Et maintenant ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Pourquoi commettez-vous un si grand mal contre vous-mêmes, pour faire mourir parmi vous et du milieu de Juda l'homme, la femme, le petit enfant et le nourrisson, de sorte qu'il ne reste plus rien de vous? | 7 Therefore now this saith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; Wherefore commit ye this great evil against your souls, to cut off from you man and woman, child and suckling, out of Judah, to leave you none to remain; |
| 8 Pourquoi Me provoquez-vous par les oeuvres de vos mains, en sacrifiant aux dieux étrangers, dans le pays d'Egypte, où vous êtes entrés pour y habiter et pour périr, et pour être la malédiction et l'opprobre de toutes les nations de la terre? | 8 In that ye provoke me unto wrath with the works of your hands, burning incense unto other gods in the land of Egypt, whither ye be gone to dwell, that ye might cut yourselves off, and that ye might be a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth? |
| 9 Avez-vous oublié les crimes de vos pères, les crimes des rois de Juda, les crimes de leurs femmes, vos propres crimes, et les crimes de vos femmes, commis dans le pays de Juda, et dans les quartiers de Jérusalem? | 9 Have ye forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which they have committed in the land of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem? |
| 10 Ils ne se sont pas purifiés jusqu'à ce jour, et ils n'ont pas eu de crainte, et ils n'ont pas marché dans la loi du Seigneur, ni dans les préceptes que J'ai mis devant vous et devant vos pères. | 10 They are not humbled even unto this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers. |
| 11 C'est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Voici, Je tournerai Ma face sur vous pour votre malheur, et Je perdrai tout Juda. | 11 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, and to cut off all Judah. |
| 12 Et Je prendrai les restes de Juda, qui ont tourné leur visage pour entrer dans le pays d'Egypte, afin d'y habiter, et ils périront tous dans le pays d'Egypte; ils tomberont par le glaive et par la famine; ils seront consumés depuis le plus petit jusqu'au plus grand; ils mourront par le glaive et par la famine, et ils seront un objet d'exécration, d'étonnement, de malédiction et d'opprobre. | 12 And I will take the remnant of Judah, that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they shall all be consumed, and fall in the land of Egypt; they shall even be consumed by the sword and by the famine: they shall die, from the least even unto the greatest, by the sword and by the famine: and they shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach. |
| 13 Et Je visiterai les habitants du pays d'Egypte comme J'ai visité Jérusalem, par le glaive, par la famine et par la peste. | 13 For I will punish them that dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: |
| 14 Et nul n'échappera et ne restera des restes des Juifs, qui sont venus pour demeurer au pays d'Egypte, avec la pensée de retourner au pays de Juda, vers lequel ils élèvent leur âme, pour y retourner et y habiter; ils n'y retourneront pas, sinon ceux qui auront fui. | 14 So that none of the remnant of Judah, which are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall escape or remain, that they should return into the land of Judah, to the which they have a desire to return to dwell there: for none shall return but such as shall escape. |
| 15 Tous les hommes qui savaient que leurs femmes sacrifiaient aux dieux étrangers, et toutes les femmes qui étaient là en grand nombre, et tout le peuple qui demeurait au pays d'Egypte, à Phaturès, répondirent à Jérémie: | 15 Then all the men which knew that their wives had burned incense unto other gods, and all the women that stood by, a great multitude, even all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying, |
| 16 Nous ne recevrons pas de toi les paroles que tu nous as adressées au nom du Seigneur; | 16 As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee. |
| 17 mais nous exécuterons toute parole qui sera sortie de notre bouche, en sacrifiant à la reine du ciel et en lui offrant des oblations, comme nous avons fait, nous et nos pères, nos rois et nos princes, dans les villes de Juda et sur les places de Jérusalem; alors nous pouvions nous rassasier de pain, nous étions heureux, et nous n'avons pas vu le malheur. | 17 But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil. |
| 18 Mais depuis le temps où nous avons cessé de sacrifier à la reine du ciel, et de lui faire des libations, nous avons manqué de tout, et nous avons été consumés par le glaive et par la famine. | 18 But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine. |
| 19 Si nous sacrifions à la reine du ciel, et si nous lui faisons des libations, est-ce sans nos maris que nous lui faisons des gâteaux pour l'honorer, et que nous lui faisons des libations? | 19 And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men? |
| 20 Jérémie dit alors à tout le peuple, aux hommes, aux femmes, et à toute l'assemblée qui lui avait fait cette réponse: | 20 Then Jeremiah said unto all the people, to the men, and to the women, and to all the people which had given him that answer, saying, |
| 21 Le Seigneur ne S'est-Il pas souvenu des sacrifices que vous avez offerts dans les villes de Juda et dans les places de Jérusalem, vous et vos pères, vos rois et vos princes, et le peuple du pays, et cela n'est-il pas monté à Son coeur? | 21 The incense that ye burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, and the people of the land, did not the LORD remember them, and came it not into his mind? |
| 22 Le Seigneur ne pouvait plus les supporter, à cause de la malice de vos inclinations, et à cause des abominations que vous avez commises; et votre pays est devenu un désert, un objet de stupeur et de malédiction, sans qu'il n'y ait plus personne qui y demeure, comme on le voit aujourd'hui. | 22 So that the LORD could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which ye have committed; therefore is your land a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day. |
| 23 C'est parce que vous avez sacrifié aux idoles, et que vous avez péché contre le Seigneur, et que vous n'avez pas écouté Sa voix, et que vous n'avez pas marché dans Sa loi, dans Ses préceptes et dans Ses ordonnances, c'est pour cela que ces maux vous sont arrivés, comme on le voit aujourd'hui. | 23 Because ye have burned incense, and because ye have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil is happened unto you, as at this day. |
| 24 Jérémie dit encore à tout le peuple et à toutes les femmes: Ecoutez la parole du Seigneur, vous tous de Juda qui êtes en Egypte. | 24 Moreover Jeremiah said unto all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of the LORD, all Judah that are in the land of Egypt: |
| 25 Ainsi parle le Seigneur des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Vous et vos femmes, vous avez déclaré de votre bouche et vous avez accompli de vos mains vos paroles: Exécutons les voeux que nous avons faits; sacrifions à la reine du ciel, et offrons-lui des libations. Vous avez accompli vos voeux, et vous les avez réalisés par des oeuvres. | 25 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying; Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her: ye will surely accomplish your vows, and surely perform your vows. |
| 26 C'est pourquoi écoutez la parole du Seigneur, vous tous de Juda, qui habitez dans le pays d'Egypte: Voici: J'ai juré par Mon grand nom, dit le Seigneur, que Mon nom ne sera plus nommé par la bouche d'aucun homme juif disant, dans tout le pays d'Egypte: Vive le Seigneur Dieu! | 26 Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord GOD liveth. |
| 27 Voici, Je veillerai sur eux pour leur malheur, et non pour leur bonheur, et tous les hommes de Juda qui sont dans le pays d'Egypte périront par le glaive et par la famine, jusqu'à ce qu'ils soient entièrement exterminés. | 27 Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them. |
| 28 Et ceux qui échapperont au glaive retourneront du pays d'Egypte dans le pays de Juda en petit nombre: et tous les restes de Juda qui sont entrés dans le pays d'Egypte pour y habiter sauront quelle parole sera accomplie, si c'est la Mienne ou la leur. | 28 Yet a small number that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, and all the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose words shall stand, mine, or theirs. |
| 29 Et voici pour vous, dit le Seigneur, le signe que Je vous visiterai en ce lieu, afin que vous sachiez que Mes paroles s'accompliront sur vous pour votre malheur. | 29 And this shall be a sign unto you, saith the LORD, that I will punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil: |
| 30 Ainsi parle le Seigneur: Voici, Je livrerai le pharaon Ephrée, roi d'Egypte entre les mains de ses ennemis et entre les mains de ceux qui en veulent à sa vie, comme J'ai livré Sédécias, roi de Juda, entre les mains de Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, son ennemi, qui en voulait à sa vie. | 30 Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will give Pharaoh-hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that seek his life; as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, his enemy, and that sought his life. |
