| 1 Eliu ajouta encore, et dit: | 1 Elihu also proceeded, and said, |
| 2 Supporte-moi un peu, et je t'enseignerai; car j'ai encore à parler pour Dieu. | 2 Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee that I have yet to speak on God's behalf. |
| 3 Je prendrai ma science à sa source, et je prouverai que mon Créateur est juste. | 3 I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker. |
| 4 Car il est certain qu'il n'y a pas de mensonge dans mes discours, et je te prouverai que ma science est parfaite. | 4 For truly my words shall not be false: he that is perfect in knowledge is with thee. |
| 5 Dieu ne rejette pas les puissants, puisqu'Il est puissant Lui-même; | 5 Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom. |
| 6 mais Il ne sauve pas les impies, et Il fait justice aux pauvres. | 6 He preserveth not the life of the wicked: but giveth right to the poor. |
| 7 Il ne retire pas Ses yeux de dessus le juste, et Il établit les rois pour toujours sur le trône, et ils y demeurent élevés. | 7 He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous: but with kings are they on the throne; yea, he doth establish them for ever, and they are exalted. |
| 8 Et s'ils sont dans les chaînes et resserrés par les liens de la pauvreté, | 8 And if they be bound in fetters, and be holden in cords of affliction; |
| 9 Il leur découvrira leurs oeuvres et leurs crimes, parce qu'ils ont été violents. | 9 Then he sheweth them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded. |
| 10 Il leur ouvrira aussi l'oreille pour les reprendre, et Il leur parlera, afin qu'ils reviennent de leur iniquité. | 10 He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity. |
| 11 S'ils écoutent et se soumettent, ils passeront leurs jours dans le bonheur, et leurs années dans la gloire; | 11 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures. |
| 12 mais s'ils n'écoutent pas, ils passeront par le glaive, et ils périront dans leur folie. | 12 But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge. |
| 13 Ceux qui sont dissimulés et doubles de coeur provoquent la colère de Dieu; ils ne crieront point lorsqu'ils seront dans les chaînes. | 13 But the hypocrites in heart heap up wrath: they cry not when he bindeth them. |
| 14 Leur âme mourra dans la tourmente, et leur vie aura le sort des efféminés. | 14 They die in youth, and their life is among the unclean. |
| 15 Dieu retirera le pauvre de l'angoisse, et Il lui ouvrira l'oreille dans la tribulation. | 15 He delivereth the poor in his affliction, and openeth their ears in oppression. |
| 16 Après t'avoir sauvé de l'abîme étroit et sans fond, Il te mettra au large, et tu te reposeras à ta table chargée de mets succulents. | 16 Even so would he have removed thee out of the strait into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and that which should be set on thy table should be full of fatness. |
| 17 Ta cause a été jugée comme celle d'un impie; le châtiment est inséparable de ta cause. | 17 But thou hast fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold on thee. |
| 18 Que la colère ne t'entraîne donc pas à opprimer l'innocent, et que la multitude des présents ne te fasse pas dévier. | 18 Because there is wrath, beware lest he take thee away with his stroke: then a great ransom cannot deliver thee. |
| 19 Abaisse, sans que l'affliction t'y oblige, ta grandeur et tous tes sentiments présomptueux. | 19 Will he esteem thy riches? no, not gold, nor all the forces of strength. |
| 20 Ne soupire pas après la nuit, dans laquelle les peuples entrent tour à tour. | 20 Desire not the night, when people are cut off in their place. |
| 21 Garde-toi de te livrer à l'iniquité, car tu t'es mis à la suivre après être tombé dans la misère. | 21 Take heed, regard not iniquity: for this hast thou chosen rather than affliction. |
| 22 Vois, Dieu est sublime dans Sa puissance, et personne ne Lui est semblable parmi les législateurs. | 22 Behold, God exalteth by his power: who teacheth like him? |
| 23 Qui pourra approfondir Ses voies? ou qui peut Lui dire: Vous avez fait une injustice? | 23 Who hath enjoined him his way? or who can say, Thou hast wrought iniquity? |
| 24 Souviens-toi que tu ne comprends pas Son oeuvre, que les hommes célèbrent par leurs chants. | 24 Remember that thou magnify his work, which men behold. |
| 25 Tous les hommes la voient, chacun la contemple de loin. | 25 Every man may see it; man may behold it afar off. |
| 26 Certes, Dieu est grand; Il dépasse notre science; le nombre de Ses années est innombrable. | 26 Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out. |
| 27 Il attire en haut les gouttes de pluie, et les fait retomber comme des torrents. | 27 For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof: |
| 28 Elles se précipitent des nuées qui couvrent toute la face du ciel. | 28 Which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly. |
| 29 Il étend les nuages quand Il veut, comme Sa tente. | 29 Also can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, or the noise of his tabernacle? |
| 30 Il fait briller d'en haut les éclaiirs, et Il couvre la mer d'une extrémité à l'autre. | 30 Behold, he spreadeth his light upon it, and covereth the bottom of the sea. |
| 31 Par là Il juge les peuples, et Il distribue la nourriture à un grand nombre d'hommes. | 31 For by them judgeth he the people; he giveth meat in abundance. |
| 32 Il cache la lumière dans Ses mains, et Il lui commande ensuite de paraître de nouveau. | 32 With clouds he covereth the light; and commandeth it not to shine by the cloud that cometh betwixt. |
| 33 Il fait connaître à celui qui aime qu'elle est son partage, et qu'il pourra s'élever jusqu'à elle. | 33 The noise thereof sheweth concerning it, the cattle also concerning the vapour. |
