| 1 Le Seigneur prononça ensuite toutes ces paroles: | 1 And the Lord spoke all these words: |
| 2 Je suis le Seigneur votre Dieu, qui vous ai tirés de l'Egypte, de la maison de servitude. | 2 “I am the Lord your God, who led you away from the land of Egypt, out of the house of servitude. |
| 3 Vous n'aurez point d'autres dieux devant Moi. | 3 You shall not have strange gods before me. |
| 4 Vous ne vous ferez point d'image taillée, ni aucune figure de tout ce qui est en haut dans le ciel, et en bas sur la terre, ni de tout ce qui est dans les eaux sous la terre. | 4 You shall not make for yourself a graven image, nor a likeness of anything that is in heaven above or on earth below, nor of those things which are in the waters under the earth. |
| 5 Vous ne les adorerez point et vous ne leur rendrez point le souverain culte; car Je suis le Seigneur votre Dieu, fort et jaloux, qui venge l'iniquité des pères sur les enfants jusqu'à la troisième et quatrième génération de ceux qui Me haïssent. | 5 You shall not adore them, nor shall you worship them. I am the Lord your God: strong, zealous, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the sons to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, |
| 6 Et qui fais miséricorde jusqu'à mille générations à ceux qui M'aiment et qui gardent Mes préceptes. | 6 and showing mercy to thousands of those who love me and keep my precepts. |
| 7 Vous ne prendrez point en vain le nom du Seigneur votre Dieu, car le Seigneur ne tiendra point pour innocent celui qui aura pris en vain le nom du Seigneur son Dieu. | 7 You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. For the Lord will not hold harmless one who takes the name of the Lord his God falsely. |
| 8 Souvenez-vous de sanctifier le jour du sabbat. | 8 Remember that you are to sanctify the day of the Sabbath. |
| 9 Vous travaillerez durant six jours, et vous y ferez tous vos travaux; | 9 For six days, you will work and accomplish all your tasks. |
| 10 Mais le septième jour est le jour du repos du Seigneur votre Dieu. Vous ne ferez en ce jour aucun ouvrage, ni vous, ni votre fils, ni votre fille, ni votre serviteur, ni votre servante, ni votre bétail, ni l'étranger qui est dans vos portes. | 10 But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. You shall not do any work in it: you and your son and your daughter, your male servant and your female servant, your beast and the newcomer who is within your gates. |
| 11 Car le Seigneur a fait en six jours le ciel, la terre et la mer, et tout ce qui y est renfermé, et Il S'est reposé le septième jour. C'est pourquoi le Seigneur a béni le jour du sabbat et l'a sanctifié. | 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and all the things that are in them, and so he rested on the seventh day. For this reason, the Lord has blessed the day of the Sabbath and sanctified it. |
| 12 Honorez votre père et votre mère, afin que vous viviez longtemps sur la terre que le Seigneur votre Dieu vous donnera. | 12 Honor your father and your mother, so that you may have a long life upon the land, which the Lord your God will give to you. |
| 13 Vous ne tuerez point. | 13 You shall not murder. |
| 14 Vous ne commettrez point d'adultère. | 14 You shall not commit adultery. |
| 15 Vous ne déroberez point. | 15 You shall not steal. |
| 16 Vous ne porterez point de faux témoignage contre votre prochain. | 16 You shall not speak false testimony against your neighbor. |
| 17 Vous ne désirerez point la maison de votre prochain; vous ne désirerez point sa femme, ni son serviteur, ni sa servante, ni son boeuf, ni son âne, ni aucune de toutes les choses qui lui appartiennent. | 17 You shall not covet the house of your neighbor; neither shall you desire his wife, nor male servant, nor female servant, nor ox, nor donkey, nor anything that is his.” |
| 18 Or tout le peuple entendait les tonnerres et le son de la trompette, et voyait les lampes ardentes et la montagne toute couverte de fumée. Et dans la crainte et effroi dont ils étaient saisis, ils se tinrent éloignés. | 18 Then all the people considered the voices, and the lights, and the sound of the trumpet, and the smoking mountain. And being terrified and struck with fear, they stood at a distance, |
| 19 Et ils dirent à Moïse: Parlez-nous vous-même, et nous vous écouterons; mais que le Seigneur ne nous parle point, de peur que nous ne mourions. | 19 saying to Moses: “Speak to us, and we will listen. Let not the Lord speak to us, lest perhaps we may die.” |
| 20 Moïse répondit au peuple: Ne craignez point, car Dieu est venu pour vous éprouver et pour imprimer Sa crainte en vous, afin que vous ne péchiez point. | 20 And Moses said to the people: “Do not be afraid. For God came in order to test you, and so that the dread of him might be with you, and you would not sin.” |
| 21 Le peuple demeura donc à distance, et Moïse s'approcha de la nuée où était Dieu. | 21 And the people stood far away. But Moses approached toward the mist, in which was God. |
| 22 Le Seigneur dit encore à Moïse: Vous direz ceci aux enfants d'Israël: Vous avez vu que c'est du Ciel que Je vous ai parlé. | 22 Thereafter, the Lord said to Moses: “This you shall say to the sons of Israel: You have seen that I have spoken to you from heaven. |
| 23 Vous ne ferez point de dieux d'argent, ni de dieux d'or. | 23 You shall not make gods of silver, nor shall you make for yourselves gods of gold. |
| 24 Vous Me dresserez un autel de terre sur lequel vous M'offrirez vos holocaustes et vos hosties pacifiques, vos brebis et vos boeufs, en tous les lieux où la mémoire de Mon nom sera établie; Je viendrai à vous et Je vous bénirai. | 24 You shall make an altar from the earth for me, and you shall offer upon it your holocausts and peace-offerings, your sheep and oxen, in every place where the memory of my name shall be. I will come to you, and I will bless you. |
| 25 Que si vous Me faites un autel de pierre, vous ne le bâtirez point de pierres taillées; car si vous employez le ciseau, il sera souillé. | 25 And if you make an altar of stone for me, you shall not build it from cut stones; for if you lift up a tool over it, it will be defiled. |
| 26 Vous ne monterez point par des degrés à Mon autel, de peur que votre nudité ne soit découverte. | 26 You shall not ascend by steps to my altar, lest your nakedness be revealed.” |
