| 1 David, étant donc âgé et plein de jours, établit son fils Salomon roi sur Israël. | 1 Then David, being old and full of days, appointed his son Solomon as king over Israel. |
| 2 Et il assembla tous les princes d'Israël, avec les prêtres et les lévites. | 2 And he gathered together all the leaders of Israel, with the priests as well as the Levites. |
| 3 On dénombra les lévites à partir de trente ans et au-dessus, et on en trouva trente-huit mille. | 3 And the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward. And there were found thirty-eight thousand men. |
| 4 Parmi eux on en choisit vingt-quatre mille, qui furent distribués dans les divers offices de la maison du Seigneur; et six mille pour être magistrats et juges. | 4 Of these, twenty-four thousand were chosen and distributed to the ministry of the house of the Lord. Then six thousand were overseers and judges. |
| 5 Il y eut quatre mille portiers, et autant de chantres qui chantaient les louangees du Seigneur sur les instruments que David avait fait faire à cette fin. | 5 Moreover, four thousand were porters. And the same number were the singers of psalms to the Lord, with the musical instruments which he had made for the music. |
| 6 Et David les distribua par classes, selon les branches des fils de Lévi : celles de Gerson, de Caath et de Mérari. | 6 And David distributed them into courses according to the sons of Levi, specifically, Gershom, and Kohath, and Merari. |
| 7 Fils de Gerson : Léédan et Séméi. | 7 The sons of Gershom: Ladan and Shimei. |
| 8 Fils de Léédan : Jahiel l'aîné, Zéthan et Joël, trois. | 8 The sons of Ladan: the leader Jahiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three. |
| 9 Fils de Séméi : Salomith, Hosiel, et Aran, trois. Ce sont là les chefs des familles de Léédan. | 9 The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the leaders of the families of Ladan. |
| 10 Fils de Séméi : Léheth, Ziza, Jaüs, et Bara. Ce sont là les quatre fils de Séméi. | 10 Then the sons of Shimei: Jahath, and Zizah, and Jeush, and Beriah. These were the sons of Shimei, four. |
| 11 Léheth était donc l'aîné, Ziza le second. Or Jaüs et Baria n'eurent pas beaucoup de fils. C'est pourquoi on les comprit sous une seule famille et une seule maison. | 11 Now Jahath was first, Zizah second, but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, and for this reason they were reckoned as one family and one house. |
| 12 Fils de Caath : Amram, Isaar, Hébron, et Oziel; quatre en tout. | 12 The sons of Kohath: Amram and Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel, four. |
| 13 Fils d'Amram : Aaron et Moïse. Aaron fut mis à part pour servir à jamais, lui et ses enfants, dans le sanctuaire, pour offrir l'encens au Seigneur selon Ses rites, et pour bénir éternellement Son nom. | 13 The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Now Aaron was separated so that he might minister in the Holy of Holies, he and his sons forever, and so that he might burn incense to the Lord, according to his rite, and so that he might bless his name in perpetuity. |
| 14 Or les fils de Moïse, l'homme de Dieu, furent comptés dans la tribu de Lévi. | 14 The sons of Moses, the man of God, were also numbered in the tribe of Levi. |
| 15 Fils de Moïse : Gersom et Eliézer. | 15 The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer. |
| 16 Fils de Gersom : Subuel le premier. | 16 The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the first. |
| 17 Eliézer eut pour fils Rohobia, qui fut un chef. Et Eliézer n'eut point d'autres fils; mais Rohobia eut un très grand nombre de fils. | 17 Now the sons of Eliezer were Rehabiah the first. And there were no other sons for Eliezer. But the sons of Rehabiah were multiplied exceedingly. |

| 19 Fils d'Hébron : Jériaü le premier, Amarias le second, Jahaziel le troisième, Jecmaam le quatrième. | 19 The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, Jekameam the fourth. |
| 20 Fils d'Oziel : Micha le premier, et Jézia le second. | 20 The sons of Uzziel: Micah the first, Isshiah the second. |
| 21 Fils de Mérari : Moholi et Musi. Fils de Moholi : Eléazar et Cis. | 21 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish. |
| 22 Eléazar mourut sans avoir de fils, et il ne laissa que des filles, qui furent mariées aux fils de Cis, leurs cousins. | 22 Then Eleazar died, and had no sons, but only daughters. And so the sons of Kish, their brothers, married them. |
| 23 Fils de Musi : Moholi, Eder, et Jérimoth, au nombre de trois. | 23 The sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three. |
| 24 Ce sont là les fils de Lévi selon leurs branches et leurs familles, les chefs selon l'ordre et le nombre des individus, qui s'acquittaient des différents ministères dans la maison du Seigneur, depuis l'âge de vingt ans et au-dessus. | 24 These are the sons of Levi, in their kindred and families, leaders in turns, and the number of each of the heads who were doing the works of the ministry of the house of the Lord, from twenty years of age and upward. |
| 25 Car David avait dit : Le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël a donné la paix à Son peuple, et l'a établi dans Jérusalem à jamais. | 25 For David said: “The Lord, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people, and a habitation in Jerusalem even unto eternity. |
| 26 Les lévites ne seront donc plus obligés de transporter le tabernacle avec tous les vases destinés à Son service. | 26 Neither shall it be the office of the Levites any more to carry the tabernacle with all its equipment for use in the ministry.” |
| 27 D'après les dernières ordonnances de David, on comptera à l'avenir le nombre des fils de Lévi depuis l'âge de vingt ans et au-dessus, | 27 Also, according to the last precepts of David, the sons of Levi shall be counted by number from twenty years of age and upward. |
| 28 et ils seront soumis aux fils d'Aaron pour le service de la maison du Seigneur, soit dans les vestibules ou dans les chambres du temple, soit dans le lieu de la purification ou dans le sanctuaire, soit dans toutes les fonctions qui regardent le ministère du temple du Seigneur. | 28 And they shall be under the hand of the sons of Aaron, in the care of the house of the Lord, in the vestibule, and in the chambers, and in the place of purification, and in the sanctuary, and in all the works of the ministry of the temple of the Lord. |
| 29 Mais les prêtres auront l'intendance sur les pains de proposition, sur le sacrifice de farine, sur les beignets de pâte sans levain, sur ce qu'on frit dans les poêles, sur les épis que l'on rôtit au feu, et sur tous les poids et sur toutes les mesures. | 29 But the priests shall be over the bread of the presence, and the sacrifice of fine wheat flour, and the unleavened cakes, and the frying pan, and the roasting, and over every weight and measure. |
| 30 Les lévites devront aussi se trouver dès le matin pour chanter les louanges du Seigneur, et ils le feront aussi le soir, | 30 Yet truly, the Levites shall stand to confess and to sing to the Lord, in the morning, and similarly in the evening, |
| 31 tant aux sacrifices des holocaustes qu'on offre au Seigneur, qu'aux jours de sabbat, aux premiers jours des mois et aux autres solennités, selon le nombre et les cérémonies que l'on doit garder en chaque chose, se tenant continuellement en la présence du Seigneur. | 31 as much in the oblation of the holocausts of the Lord, as in the Sabbaths and new moons and other solemnities, according to the number and ceremonies for each and every matter, perpetually before the Lord. |
| 32 Et ils observeront les ordonnances relatives au tabernacle de l'alliance et au culte du sanctuaire, et ils rendont une respectueuse obéissance aux prêtres fils d'Aaron, qui sont leurs frères, pour s'acquitter de leur ministère dans la maison du Seigneur. | 32 And let them keep the observances of the tabernacle of the covenant, and the rituals of the sanctuary, and the observance of the sons of Aaron, their brothers, so that they may minister in the house of the Lord. |
