| 1 Lorsque le roi Ezéchias eut entendu cela, il déchira ses vétements, se couvrit d'un sac, et entra dans la maison du Seigneur. | 1 And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD. |
| 2 Et il envoya Eliacim, grand maître de sa maison, Sobna, secrétaire, et les plus anciens des prêtres, couverts de sacs, vers le prophète Isaïe, fils d'Amos; | 2 And he sent Eliakim, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz. |
| 3 et ils lui dirent : Voici ce que dit Ezéchias : Ce jour est un jour d'affliction, de reproche et de blasphème. Les enfants sont sur le point de naître, mais celle qui est en travail n'a pas assez de force pour enfanter. | 3 And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth. |
| 4 Peut-être que le Seigneur votre Dieu aura entendu les paroles de Rabsacès, qui a été envoyé par le roi des Assyriens son maître, pour blasphémer le Dieu vivant, et pour Lui insulter par des paroles que le Seigneur votre Dieu a entendues. Faites donc une prière pour le reste qui subsiste encore. | 4 It may be the LORD thy God will hear all the words of Rab-shakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God; and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that are left. |
| 5 Les serviteurs du roi Ezéchias allèrent donc trouver Isaïe. | 5 So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah. |
| 6 Et Isaïe leur répondit : Vous direz ceci à votre maître : Voici ce que dit le Seigneur : Ne craignez point ces paroles que vous avez entendues, par lesquelles les serviteurs du roi des Assyriens M'ont blasphémé. | 6 And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words which thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me. |
| 7 Je vais lui envoyer un esprit, et il apprendra une nouvelle, et il retournera dans son pays, et Je l'y ferai périr par l'épée. | 7 Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and shall return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land. |
| 8 Rabsacès retourna donc auprès du roi des Assyriens, et il le trouva qui assiégeait Lobna; car il avait appris qu'il s'était retiré de devant Lachis. | 8 So Rab-shakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish. |
| 9 Et Sennachérib reçut une nouvelle au sujet de Tharaca, roi d'Ethiopie. On lui dit : Voici qu'il s'est mis en marche pour vous combattre; et sur le point de s'avancer contre ce roi, il envoya ses ambassadeurs à Ezéchias, avec cet ordre: | 9 And when he heard say of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, Behold, he is come out to fight against thee: he sent messengers again unto Hezekiah, saying, |
| 10 Vous direz à Ezéchias, roi de Juda : Ne vous laissez pas séduire par votre Dieu, en qui vous mettez votre confiance, et ne dites point : Jérusalem ne sera pas livrée entre les mains du roi des Assyriens. | 10 Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God in whom thou trustest deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria. |
| 11 Car vous avez appris vous-même ce que les rois des Assyriens ont fait à toutes les autres nations, et comment ils les ont ruinées. Pourrez-vous donc, vous seul, être délivré? | 11 Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly: and shalt thou be delivered? |
| 12 Les dieux des nations ont-ils délivré les peuples que mes pères ont ravagés? Ont-ils délivré Gozan, Haran, Réseph, et les fils d'Eden, qui étaient à Thélassar? | 12 Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed; as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Thelasar? |
| 13 Où est maintenant le roi d'Emath, le roi d'Arphad, le roi de la ville de Sépharvaïm, d'Ana et d'Ava? | 13 Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivah? |
| 14 Lorsque Ezéchias eut reçu la lettre de Sennachérib de la main des ambassadeurs, il la lut, vint dans le temple, et étendit la lettre devant le Seigneur, | 14 And Hezekiah received the letter of the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up into the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD. |
| 15 et il pria devant Lui en ces termes : Seigneur, Dieu d'Israël, qui êtes assis sur les chérubins, c'est Vous seul qui êtes le Dieu de tous les rois du monde; c'est Vous qui avez fait le ciel et la terre. | 15 And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel, which dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth. |
| 16 Prêtez l'oreille et écoutez; ouvrez les yeux, Seigneur, et considérez; écoutez toutes les paroles de Sennachérib, qui a envoyé ses ambassadeurs pour blasphémer devant nous le Dieu vivant. | 16 LORD, bow down thine ear, and hear: open, LORD, thine eyes, and see: and hear the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent him to reproach the living God. |
| 17 Il est vrai, Seigneur, que les rois des Assyriens ont détruit les nations, qu'ils ont ravagé toutes leurs terres, | 17 Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations and their lands, |
| 18 et qu'ils ont jeté leurs dieux dans le feu, et les ont anéantis, car ce n'étaient point des dieux, mais des images de bois et de pierre faites par la main des hommes. | 18 And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them. |
| 19 Sauvez-nous donc maintenant, Seigneur notre Dieu, des mains de ce roi, afin que tous les royaumes de la terre sachent que Vous êtes seul le Seigneur Dieu. | 19 Now therefore, O LORD our God, I beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD God, even thou only. |
| 20 Alors Isaïe, fils d'Amos, envoya dire à Ezéchias : Voici ce que dit le Seigneur, Dieu d'Israël : J'ai entendu la prière que vous m'avez faite touchant Sennachérib, roi des Assyriens. | 20 Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria I have heard. |
| 21 Voici ce que le Seigneur a dit de lui : Elle t'a méprisé, elle t'a insulté, la vierge fille de Sion; elle a secoué la tête derrière vous, la fille de Jérusalem. | 21 This is the word that the LORD hath spoken concerning him; The virgin the daughter of Zion hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee. |
| 22 Qui as-tu insulté, qui as-tu blasphémé? contre qui as-tu haussé la voix et élevé tes yeux insolents? C'est contre le Saint d'Israël. | 22 Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel. |
| 23 Tu as blasphémé le Seigneur par tes serviteurs, et tu as dit : J'ai gravi le sommet des montagnes du Liban avec la multitude de mes chars; j'ai abattu ses beaux cèdres, et les plus grands de ses sapins; j'ai pénétré jusqu'à ses extrémités, et j'ai abattu la forêt de son Carmel. | 23 By the messengers thou hast reproached the Lord, and hast said, With the multitude of my chariots I am come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon, and will cut down the tall cedar trees thereof, and the choice fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the lodgings of his borders, and into the forest of his Carmel. |
| 24 J'ai bu les eaux étrangères, et j'ai desséché avec la plante de mes pieds toutes celles qui étaient fermées. | 24 I have digged and drunk strange waters, and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of besieged places. |
| 25 N'as-tu pas entendu dire ce que J'ai fait dès le commencement? Dès les jours anciens J'ai formé ce dessein, et maintenant Je l'ai exécuté; les villes fortifiées des combattants restent comme des collines en ruines. | 25 Hast thou not heard long ago how I have done it, and of ancient times that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste fenced cities into ruinous heaps. |
| 26 Les mains ont tremblé à ceux qui étaient dedans; ils ont été confondus, et ils sont devenus comme l'herbe des champs, et comme l'herbe verdoyante des toits, qui se sèche avant de venir à maturité. | 26 Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded; they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up. |
| 27 Ta demeure, et ton entrée, et ta sortie, et ta voie, Je les ai prévues, ainsi que ta fureur contre Moi. | 27 But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy rage against me. |
| 28 Tu as déliré contre Moi, et ton orgueil est monté jusqu'à Mes oreilles. Je te mettrai donc une boucle au nez et un mors à la bouche, et Je te ferai retourner par le même chemin par lequel tu es venu. | 28 Because thy rage against me and thy tumult is come up into mine ears, therefore I will put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest. |
| 29 Mais pour vous, ô Ezéchias, voici le signe que Je vous donnerai : Mangez cette année ce que vous pourrez trouver; la seconde année, ce qui naîtra de soi-même; mais, la troisième année, semez et récoltez, plantez des vignes, et mangez-en le fruit. | 29 And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such things as grow of themselves, and in the second year that which springeth of the same; and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruits thereof. |
| 30 Et tout ce qui restera de la maison de Juda jettera ses racines en bas, et poussera son fruit en haut. | 30 And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall yet again take root downward, and bear fruit upward. |
| 31 Car il sortira de Jérusalem un reste, et il en demeurera de la montagne de Sion, qui seront sauvés. Le zèle du Seigneur des armées fera cela. | 31 For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this. |
| 32 C'est pourquoi voici ce que le Seigneur dit du roi des Assyriens : Il n'entrera pas dans cette ville, il ne tirera pas de flèche contre ses murailles, elle ne sera point forcée par les boucliers, et environnée de retranchements. | 32 Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank against it. |
| 33 Il retournera par le même chemin par lequel il est venu, et il n'entrera pas dans cette ville, dit le Seigneur. | 33 By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD. |
| 34 Je protégerai cette ville, et Je la sauverai, à cause de Moi et de Mon serviteur David. | 34 For I will defend this city, to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake. |
| 35 En cette nuit, l'Ange du Seigneur vint dans le camp des Assyriens, et y tua cent quatre-vingt-cinq mille hommes; et Sennachérib, roi des Assyriens, s'étant levé au point du jour, vit tous ces cadavres; et il se retira aussitôt, | 35 And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses. |
| 36 et il revint dans son pays, et demeura à Ninive. | 36 So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh. |
| 37 Et tandis qu'il adorait Nesroch, son dieu, dans son temple, ses deux fils, Adramélech et Sarasar, le tuèrent à coups d'épée, et s'enfuirent en Arménie; et Asarhaddon, son fils régna à sa place. | 37 And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword: and they escaped into the land of Armenia. And Esar-haddon his son reigned in his stead. |
