1 Quand Jésus vit tout ce peuple, il gravit la montagne. Là il s’assit et ses disciples s’approchèrent de lui,	1 Seeing the crowds, he went onto the mountain. And when he was seated his disciples came to him.
2 il ouvrit la bouche et commença à les enseigner:	2 Then he began to speak. This is what he taught them:
3 “Heureux ceux qui ont un cœur de pauvre, le Royaume des Cieux est à eux.	3 How blessed are the poor in spirit: the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
4 Heureux les doux, ils auront la terre en héritage.	4 Blessed are the gentle: they shal have the earth as inheritance.
5 Heureux ceux qui sont dans le deuil, ils seront réconfortés.	5 Blessed are those who mourn: they shal be comforted.
6 Heureux ceux qui ont faim et soif de la justice, ils seront rassasiés.	6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for uprightness: they shal have their fil .
7 Heureux les miséricordieux, ils auront droit à la miséricorde.	7 Blessed are the merciful: they shal have mercy shown them.
8 Heureux ceux qui ont le cœur pur, ils verront Dieu.	8 Blessed are the pure in heart: they shal see God.
9 Heureux ceux qui sèment la paix, ils seront appelés enfants de Dieu.	9 Blessed are the peacemakers: they shal be recognised as children of God.
10 Heureux ceux qui sont persécutés quand ils agissent en toute droiture, le Royaume des Cieux est à eux.	10 Blessed are those who are persecuted in the cause of uprightness: the kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
11 Oui, heureux serez-vous quand on vous insultera à cause de moi, et qu’on vous poursuivra, et qu’on dira sur vous toute sorte de calomnies.	11 'Blessed are you when people abuse you and persecute you and speak al kinds of calumny againstyou falsely on my account.
12 Soyez heureux, sautez de joie, car vous avez dans les cieux une belle récompense. On poursuivait tout pareillement les prophètes qui étaient avant vous.”	12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven; this is how they persecuted the prophetsbefore you.
13 “Vous êtes le sel de la terre. Mais si le sel perd son mordant, avec quoi le salera-t-on? Il ne sert plus à rien; on le jette dehors et il sera piétiné.	13 'You are salt for the earth. But if salt loses its taste, what can make it salty again? It is good fornothing, and can only be thrown out to be trampled under people's feet.
14 “Vous êtes la lumière du monde. Comment cacher une ville bâtie au sommet de la montagne?	14 'You are light for the world. A city built on a hil -top cannot be hidden.
15 Personne n’allume une lampe pour la mettre sous un meuble: on la met sur un lampadaire, et elle donne sa lumière à toute la maison.	15 No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub; they put it on the lamp-stand where it shines for everyone inthe house.
16 Que votre lumière, de même, brille devant les hommes: qu’ils voient vos bonnes œuvres, et qu’ils rendent gloire à votre Père qui est dans les Cieux.”	16 In the same way your light must shine in people's sight, so that, seeing your good works, they maygive praise to your Father in heaven.
17 “Ne croyez pas que je suis venu défaire la Loi et les Prophètes: je ne suis pas venu pour défaire, mais pour accomplir.	17 'Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but tocomplete them.
18 En vérité, je vous le dis, pas une lettre, pas une virgule de la Loi ne passera avant que ne passent le ciel et la terre: tout se réalisera.	18 In truth I tell you, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke, is to disappear fromthe Law until al its purpose is achieved.
19 “Si quelqu’un écarte un des plus petits commandements et enseigne aux autres à faire de même, il sera mis au dernier rang dans le Royaume des Cieux. Mais si quelqu’un les met en pratique et les enseigne, celui-là sera grand dans le Royaume des Cieux.	19 Therefore, anyone who infringes even one of the least of these commandments and teaches others todo the same wil be considered the least in the kingdom of Heaven; but the person who keeps them and teachesthem wil be considered great in the kingdom of Heaven.
20 “Je vous le dis: si votre idéal de perfection ne dépasse pas celui des maîtres de la Loi et des Pharisiens, vous ne pouvez pas entrer dans le Royaume des Cieux.	20 'For I tell you, if your uprightness does not surpass that of the scribes and Pharisees, you wil neverget into the kingdom of Heaven.
21 “Vous venez d’entendre qu’on a dit à vos ancêtres: Tu ne tueras pas. Si quelqu’un a tué, il doit passer en jugement.	21 'You have heard how it was said to our ancestors, You shal not kil ; and if anyone does kil he mustanswer for it before the court.
22 Mais moi je vous dis: si quelqu’un se met en colère contre son frère, il mérite un jugement; si quelqu’un traite son frère de fou, il mérite une sentence du Conseil suprême; s’il lui a dit: ‘Sois maudit!’ il mérite d’aller à l’enfer du feu.	22 But I say this to you, anyone who is angry with a brother wil answer for it before the court; anyone whocal s a brother "Fool" wil answer for it before the Sanhedrin; and anyone who cal s him "Traitor" wil answer for it in hel fire.
23 “Quand donc tu t’avances pour présenter à l’autel ton offrande, si tu te souviens que ton frère a quelque chose à te reprocher,	23 So then, if you are bringing your offering to the altar and there remember that your brother hassomething against you,
24 laisse là devant l’autel ton offrande, et va d’abord te réconcilier avec ton frère. Ensuite tu reviendras présenter ton offrande.	24 leave your offering there before the altar, go and be reconciled with your brother first, and then comeback and present your offering.
25 “Trouve tout de suite un accord avec ton adversaire pendant que vous êtes en chemin l’un et l’autre. Ton adversaire peut-être te mettrait entre les mains du juge, le juge te remettrait au policier et tu serais mis en prison.	25 Come to terms with your opponent in good time while you are stil on the way to the court with him, orhe may hand you over to the judge and the judge to the officer, and you wil be thrown into prison.
26 En vérité, je te le dis, tu n’en sortiras pas tant que tu n’auras pas payé le dernier centime.	26 In truth I tell you, you wil not get out til you have paid the last penny.
27 “Vous venez d’entendre qu’il a été dit: Tu ne commettras pas d’adultère.	27 'You have heard how it was said, You shall not commit adultery.
28 Mais moi je vous dis: celui qui regarde une femme pour satisfaire son désir a déjà commis l’adultère dans son cœur.	28 But I say this to you, if a man looks at a woman lustfully, he has already committed adultery with her inhis heart.
29 Si ton œil droit te mène à la chute, arrache-le et jette-le loin de toi. Il vaut mieux pour toi perdre un de tes membres plutôt que d’avoir ton corps entier jeté dans l’enfer du feu.	29 If your right eye should be your downfal , tear it out and throw it away; for it wil do you less harm tolose one part of yourself than to have your whole body thrown into hell.
30 Et si c’est ta main droite qui te mène à la chute, coupe-la et jette-la. C’est ton intérêt de perdre un de tes membres plutôt que d’avoir ton corps jeté tout entier dans la géhenne.	30 And if your right hand should be your downfall, cut it off and throw it away; for it wil do you less harmto lose one part of yourself than to have your whole body go to hel .
31 “Il a été dit: Celui qui renvoie sa femme devra lui donner un billet de divorce.	31 'It has also been said, Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a writ of dismissal.
32 Mais moi je vous dis: celui qui renvoie sa femme, sauf pour infidélité, la fait devenir adultère. Et celui qui épouse cette femme renvoyée commet lui aussi un adultère.”	32 But I say this to you, everyone who divorces his wife, except for the case of an il icit marriage, makesher an adulteress; and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
33 “Vous avez entendu qu’on a dit à vos ancêtres: Tu ne reviendras pas sur tes serments; tu donneras au Seigneur ce que tu as juré.	33 'Again, you have heard how it was said to our ancestors, You must not break your oath, but must fulfilyour oaths to the Lord.
34 Mais moi je vous dis de ne pas jurer du tout: ni par le ciel, parce que c’est le trône de Dieu,	34 But I say this to you, do not swear at al , either by heaven, since that is God's throne;
35 ni par la terre, parce que c’est son marchepied, ni par Jérusalem, parce que c’est la ville du grand Roi.	35 or by earth, since that is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, since that is the city of the great King.
36 Tu ne jureras pas davantage par ta tête parce que tu ne peux même pas rendre noir ou blanc un seul de tes cheveux.	36 Do not swear by your own head either, since you cannot turn a single hair white or black.
37 Donc, que votre ‘oui’ soit oui, et votre ‘non’, non; tout le reste vient du démon.”	37 All you need say is "Yes" if you mean yes, "No" if you mean no; anything more than this comes from the Evil One.
38 “Vous avez entendu qu’il a été dit: Œil pour œil, dent pour dent.	38 'You have heard how it was said: Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.
39 Mais moi je vous dis de ne pas résister au méchant. Si on te frappe sur la joue droite, présente encore l’autre joue.	39 But I say this to you: offer no resistance to the wicked. On the contrary, if anyone hits you on the rightcheek, offer him the other as wel ;
40 Et si quelqu’un veut te réclamer ta tunique, donne-lui aussi ton manteau.	40 if someone wishes to go to law with you to get your tunic, let him have your cloak as well.
41 Si quelqu’un t’impose une corvée, un kilomètre à faire, fais-en deux avec lui.	41 And if anyone requires you to go one mile, go two miles with him.
42 Donne à celui qui te demande et ne te détourne pas de celui qui veut t’emprunter.	42 Give to anyone who asks you, and if anyone wants to borrow, do not turn away.
43 “Vous avez entendu qu’il a été dit: Tu aimeras ton prochain et tu ne feras pas de cadeau à ton ennemi.	43 'You have heard how it was said, You wil love your neighbour and hate your enemy.
44 Mais moi je vous dis: aimez vos ennemis et priez pour ceux qui vous persécutent.	44 But I say this to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you;
45 C’est ainsi que vous serez les fils de votre Père des Cieux, lui qui fait briller le soleil sur les méchants comme sur les bons, et qui fait pleuvoir pour les gens honnêtes comme pour les malhonnêtes.	45 so that you may be children of your Father in heaven, for he causes his sun to rise on the bad as wellas the good, and sends down rain to fal on the upright and the wicked alike.
46 “D’ailleurs, quand vous aimez ceux qui vous aiment, quelle récompense méritez-vous? Même les publicains le font.	46 For if you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Do not even the tax col ectors do asmuch?
47 Et si vous saluez seulement ceux qui sont de votre bord, que faites-vous d’extraordinaire? Les païens eux-mêmes le font.	47 And if you save your greetings for your brothers, are you doing anything exceptional?
48 Donc vous, vous serez parfaits comme votre Père du Ciel est parfait.”	48 Do not even the gentiles do as much? You must therefore be perfect, just as your heavenly Father isperfect.'
