BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Dunque chiama, s' egli è alcuno che ti risponda, e convèrtiti ad alcuno de' santi.	1 Make your appeal then. Wil you find an answer? To which of the holy ones wil you turn?
2 La iracondia uccide l'uomo sciocco, e la invidia uccide il piccolo.	2 Resentment kil s the senseless, and anger brings death to the fool.
3 Viddi lo sciocco con ferma radice, e maledissi incontanente la bellezza sua.	3 I have seen the senseless taking root, when a curse fel suddenly on his house.
4 Dalla lunga saranno fatti li figliuoli suoi dalla salute, e fieno attriti nella porta, e non sarà chi li liberi.	4 His children are deprived of prop and stay, ruined at the gate, and no one to defend them;
5 La biada dello quale mangerae l' affamato, e lui piglierà l' armato, e beranno coloro che hanno sete le ricchezze sue.	5 their harvest goes to feed the hungry, God snatches it from their mouths, and covetous people thirst fortheir possessions.
6 Niuna cosa nella terra senza cagione si fa, e della terra non uscirà dolore.	6 No, misery does not grow out of the soil, nor sorrow spring from the ground.
7 L'uomo alla fatica nasce e l'uccello a volare.	7 It is people who breed trouble for themselves as surely as eagles fly to the height.
8 Per la quale cagione io pregherò lo Signore, e a Dio porroe lo mio favellare,	8 If I were you, I should appeal to God and lay my case before him.
9 il quale fae le grandi cose, e da non poter cercare, e molto maravigliose e senza numero;	9 His works are great, past al reckoning, marvels beyond al counting.
10 il quale dae la piova sopra la faccia della terra, e bagna coll' acque ogni cosa;	10 He sends down rain to the earth, pours down water on the fields.
11 il quale pone li umili ad alto, e li piagnenti dirizza con dolcezza;	11 If his wil is to raise up the downcast, or exalt the afflicted to the heights of prosperity,
12 il quale guasta li pensieri delli rei, acciò che non possano compire le mani loro quello che aviano incominciato;	12 he frustrates the plans of the artful so that they cannot succeed in their intrigues.
13 il quale apprende li savii nella astuzia loro, e li consigli de' malvagi guasta.	13 He traps the crafty in the snare of their own trickery, throws the plans of the cunning into disarray.
14 Di giorno correranno nelle tenebre; e quasi come di notte, così palperanno nel mezzo dì.	14 In daylight they come up against darkness, and grope their way as if noon were night.
15 In verità salva lo poverello dal coltello della bocca loro, e dalla mano violenta lo bisognoso.	15 He rescues the bankrupt from their jaws, and the needy from the grasp of the mighty.
16 E sarà speranza all' abbisognante; ma la iniquità costrignerà la bocca sua.	16 Hope springs afresh for the weak, and wickedness must shut its mouth.
17 Beato l'uomo che è corretto da Dio; adunque [per] la reprensione della sua correzione non lo vituperarae.	17 Blessed are those whom God corrects! Do not then scorn the lesson of Shaddai!
18 Perciò ch' egli ferisce, e medica; percuote, e le mani sue saneranno.	18 For he who wounds is he who soothes the sore, and the hand that hurts is the hand that heals.
19 In sei tribulazioni liberarà te, e nella settima non toccherà te lo male.	19 Six times he wil deliver you from sorrow, and the seventh time, evil wil not touch you.
20 Nella fame scamperà te da morte, e nella battaglia dalla mano del coltello.	20 In time of famine, he wil save you from death, and in wartime from the stroke of the sword.
21 Dal tormento della lingua sarai nascoso, e non temerai la miseria quando sopraverrae.	21 You will be safe from the lash of the tongue, unafraid at the approach of the despoiler.
22 Nel guasto e nella fame riderai, e non temerai le bestie della terra.	22 You will laugh at drought and frost, and have no fear of the beasts of the earth.
23 Ma colle pietre della regione lo patto tuo, e le bestie della terra ti saranno pacifiche.	23 You will have a pact with the stones of the field, and live in amity with wild beasts.
24 E sappi che pace abbi la casa tua; e visitando la specie tua, non peccherai.	24 You will know that your tent is secure, and your sheepfold unharmed when you inspect it.
25 Certo saprai che in molti sarae lo seme tuo, e la schiatta tua sarae come erba della terra.	25 You will see your descendants multiply, your offspring grow like the grass in the fields.
26 Con abbondanza entrerai nel sepolcro, sì come era aperto lo monticello del grano nel tempo suo.	26 At a ripe age you wil go to the grave, like a wheatsheaf stacked in due season.
27 Ecco; questo, sì come abbiamo investigato, così è; lo qual udito, con la mente pertratta.	27 Al this we have observed and it is so! Heed it, you wil be the wiser for it!
