LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Le anime dei giusti, invece, sono nelle mani di Dio e nessun tormento le toccherà.	1 But the souls of the upright are in the hands of God, and no torment can touch them.
2 Agli occhi degli stolti parve che morissero, una disgrazia fu considerata la loro dipartita,	2 To the unenlightened, they appeared to die, their departure was regarded as disaster,
3 e il loro viaggio lontano da noi una rovina, ma essi sono nella pace.	3 their leaving us like annihilation; but they are at peace.
4 Anche se agli occhi degli uomini sono dei castigati, la loro speranza è piena d'immortalità.	4 If, as it seemed to us, they suffered punishment, their hope was rich with immortality;
5 Dopo un breve soffrire, saranno largamente beneficati, perché li ha provati e li ha trovati degni di sé;	5 slight was their correction, great wil their blessings be. God was putting them to the test and has provedthem worthy to be with him;
6 li ha saggiati come oro nel crogiolo e li ha graditi come un sacrificio perfetto.	6 he has tested them like gold in a furnace, and accepted them as a perfect burnt offering.
7 Nel tempo della loro visita risplenderanno e come scintille nella paglia scorreranno.	7 At their time of visitation, they wil shine out; as sparks run through the stubble, so will they.
8 Governeranno le nazioni e avranno potere sui popoli e il Signore sarà loro re per sempre.	8 They wil judge nations, rule over peoples, and the Lord wil be their king for ever.
9 Quanti confidano in lui comprenderanno la verità e i fedeli dimoreranno presso di lui nell'amore, perché grazia e misericordia sono per i suoi eletti.	9 Those who trust in him wil understand the truth, those who are faithful wil live with him in love; forgrace and mercy await his holy ones, and he intervenes on behalf of his chosen.
10 Gli empi, invece, secondo i loro progetti, riceveranno il castigo, essi che non si sono presi cura del giusto e si sono allontanati dal Signore.	10 But the godless wil be duly punished for their reasoning, for having neglected the upright and desertedthe Lord.
11 Chi disprezza la sapienza e l'educazione è infelice, vana la loro speranza, inutili le fatiche e senza profitto le loro opere.	11 Yes, wretched are they who scorn wisdom and discipline: their hope is void, their toil unavailing, theirachievements unprofitable;
12 Le loro mogli sono stolte, cattivi i loro figli, maledetta la loro discendenza.	12 their wives are reckless, their children depraved, their descendants accursed.
13 Beata la sterile non contaminata, che non ha conosciuto unione nel peccato, perché avrà il frutto nella visita delle anime.	13 Blessed the sterile woman if she be blameless, and has not known an unlawful bed, for she wil havefruit at the visitation of souls.
14 Beato anche l'eunuco, che non ha operato misfatti con le mani e non ha rivolto pensieri malvagi contro il Signore; a lui infatti per la fedeltà sarà data una grazia speciale e una sorte graditissima nel tempio del Signore.	14 Blessed, too, the eunuch whose hand commits no crime, and who harbours no resentment against theLord: a special favour will be granted to him for his loyalty, a most desirable portion in the temple of the Lord.
15 Poiché glorioso è il frutto delle buone fatiche e imperitura la radice dell'intelligenza.	15 For the fruit of honest labours is glorious, and the root of understanding does not decay.
16 Ma i figli degli adulteri resteranno imperfetti e il seme di un'unione illegale sarà sterminato.	16 But the children of adulterers wil not reach maturity, the offspring of an unlawful bed wil disappear.
17 Anche se avranno lunga vita, come cosa da nulla saranno considerati, e all'ultimo la loro vecchiaia sarà senza onore.	17 Even if they live long, they wil count for nothing, their old age wil go unhonoured at the last;
18 Se poi moriranno presto, non avranno speranza, né conforto nel giorno del giudizio,	18 while if they die early, they have neither hope nor comfort on the day of judgement,
19 poiché triste è la fine di una generazione ingiusta.	19 for the end of a race of evil-doers is harsh.
