CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINGREEK BIBLE
And having entered, he walked through Jericho.1 Και εισελθων διηρχετο την Ιεριχω?
And behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus. And he was the leader of the tax collectors, and he was wealthy.2 και ιδου, ανθρωπος ονομαζομενος Ζακχαιος, οστις ητο αρχιτελωνης, και ουτος ητο πλουσιος,
And he sought to see Jesus, to see who he was. But he was unable to do so, because of the crowd, for he was small in stature.3 και εζητει να ιδη τον Ιησουν τις ειναι, και δεν ηδυνατο δια τον οχλον, διοτι ητο μικρος το αναστημα.
And running ahead, he climbed up a sycamore tree, so that he might see him. For he was to pass near there.4 και δραμων εμπρος ανεβη επι συκομορεαν δια να ιδη αυτον?
And when he had arrived at the place, Jesus looked up and saw him, and he said to him: “Zacchaeus, hurry down. For today, I should lodge in your house.”5 Και ως ηλθεν εις τον τοπον ο Ιησους, αναβλεψας ειδεν αυτον και ειπε προς αυτον?
And hurrying, he came down, and he received him joyfully.6 Και κατεβη ταχεως και υπεδεχθη αυτον μετα χαρας.
And when they all saw this, they murmured, saying that he had turned aside to a sinful man.7 Και ιδοντες απαντες εγογγυζον, λεγοντες οτι εις αμαρτωλον ανθρωπον εισηλθε να καταλυση.
But Zacchaeus, standing still, said to the Lord: “Behold, Lord, one half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have cheated anyone in any matter, I will repay him fourfold.”8 Σταθεις δε ο Ζακχαιος, ειπε προς τον Κυριον?
Jesus said to him: “Today, salvation has come to this house; because of this, he too is a son of Abraham.9 Ειπε δε προς αυτον ο Ιησους οτι, Σημερον εγεινε σωτηρια εις τον οικον τουτον, καθοτι και αυτος υιος του Αβρααμ ειναι.
For the Son of man has come to seek and to save what had been lost.”10 Διοτι ο Υιος του ανθρωπου ηλθε να ζητηση και να σωση το απολωλος.
As they were listening to these things, continuing on, he spoke a parable, because he was nearing Jerusalem, and because they guessed that the kingdom of God might be manifested without delay.11 Και ενω αυτοι ηκουον ταυτα, προσθεσας ειπε παραβολην, διοτι ητο πλησιον της Ιερουσαλημ και αυτοι ενομιζον οτι η βασιλεια του Θεου εμελλεν ευθυς να φανη?
Therefore, he said: “A certain man of nobility traveled to a far away region, to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.12 ειπε λοιπον? Ανθρωπος τις ευγενης υπηγεν εις χωραν μακραν δια να λαβη εις εαυτον βασιλειαν και να υποστρεψη.
And calling his ten servants, he gave them ten pounds, and he said to them: ‘Do business until I return.’13 Και καλεσας δεκα δουλους εαυτου, εδωκεν εις αυτους δεκα μνας και ειπε προς αυτους?
But his citizens hated him. And so they sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this one to reign over us.’14 Οι συμπολιται αυτου ομως εμισουν αυτον και απεστειλαν κατοπιν αυτου πρεσβεις, λεγοντες?
And it happened that he returned, having received the kingdom. And he ordered the servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called so that he would know how much each one had earned by doing business.15 Και αφου υπεστρεψε λαβων την βασιλειαν, ειπε να προσκληθωσι προς αυτον οι δουλοι εκεινοι, εις τους οποιους εδωκε το αργυριον, δια να μαθη τι εκερδησεν εκαστος.
Now the first approached, saying: ‘Lord, your one pound has earned ten pounds.’16 Και ηλθεν ο πρωτος, λεγων?
And he said to him: ‘Well done, good servant. Since you have been faithful in a small matter, you will hold authority over ten cities.’17 Και ειπε προς αυτον?
And the second came, saying: ‘Lord, your one pound has earned five pounds.’18 Και ηλθεν ο δευτερος, λεγων?
And he said to him, ‘And so, you shall be over five cities.’19 Ειπε δε και προς τουτον?
And another approached, saying: ‘Lord, behold your one pound, which I kept stored in a cloth.20 Ηλθε και αλλος, λεγων?
For I feared you, because you are an austere man. You take up what you did not lay down, and you reap what you did not sow.’21 Διοτι σε εφοβουμην, επειδη εισαι ανθρωπος αυστηρος?
He said to him: ‘By your own mouth, do I judge you, O wicked servant. You knew that I am an austere man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow.22 Και λεγει προς αυτον?
And so, why did you not give my money to the bank, so that, upon my return, I might have withdrawn it with interest?’23 δια τι λοιπον δεν εδωκας το αργυριον μου εις την τραπεζαν, ωστε εγω ελθων ηθελον συναξει αυτο μετα του τοκου;
And he said to the bystanders, ‘Take the pound away from him, and give it to him who has ten pounds.’24 Και ειπε προς τους παρεστωτας?
And they said to him, ‘Lord, he has ten pounds.’25 Και ειπον προς αυτον?
So then, I say to you, that to all who have, it shall be given, and he will have in abundance. And from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.26 Διοτι σας λεγω οτι εις παντα τον εχοντα θελει δοθη, απο δε του μη εχοντος και ο, τι εχει θελει αφαιρεθη απ' αυτου.
‘Yet truly, as for those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here, and put them to death before me.’
And having said these things, he went ahead, ascending to Jerusalem.28 Και ειπων ταυτα, προεχωρει αναβαινων εις Ιεροσολυμα.
And it happened that, when he had drawn near to Bethphage and Bethania, to the mount which is called Olivet, he sent two of his disciples,29 Και ως επλησιασεν εις Βηθφαγη και Βηθανιαν, προς το ορος το καλουμενον Ελαιων, απεστειλε δυο των μαθητων αυτου,
saying: “Go into the town which is opposite you. Upon entering it, you will find the colt of a donkey, tied, on which no man has ever sat. Untie it, and lead it here.30 ειπων? Υπαγετε εις την κατεναντι κωμην, εις την οποιαν εμβαινοντες θελετε ευρει πωλαριον δεδεμενον, επι του οποιου ουδεις ανθρωπος εκαθησε ποτε? λυσατε αυτο και φερετε.
And if anyone will ask you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this to him: ‘Because the Lord has requested its service.’
And those who were sent went out, and they found the colt standing, just as he told them.32 Υπηγαν δε οι απεσταλμενοι και ευρον καθως ειπε προς αυτους?
Then, as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?”33 και ενω ελυον το πωλαριον, ειπον προς αυτους οι κυριοι αυτου? Δια τι λυετε το πωλαριον;
So they said, “Because the Lord has need of it.”34 Οι δε ειπον?
And they led it to Jesus. And casting their garments on the colt, they helped Jesus onto it.35 και εφεραν αυτο προς τον Ιησουν?
Then, as he was traveling, they were laying down their garments along the way.36 Ενω δε επορευετο, υπεστρωνον τα ιματια αυτων εις την οδον.
And when he was now drawing near to the descent of Mount Olivet, the entire crowd of his disciples began to praise God joyfully, with a loud voice, over all the powerful works which they had seen,37 Και οτε επλησιαζεν ηδη εις την καταβασιν του ορους των Ελαιων, ηρχισαν απαν το πληθος των μαθητων χαιροντες να υμνωσι τον Θεον μεγαλοφωνως δια παντα τα θαυματα, τα οποια ειδον,
saying: “Blessed is the king who has arrived in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory on high!”38 λεγοντες?
And certain Pharisees within the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.”39 Και τινες των Φαρισαιων απο του οχλου ειπον προς αυτον?
And he said to them, “I tell you, that if these will keep silent, the stones themselves will cry out.”40 Και αποκριθεις ειπε προς αυτους?
And when he drew near, seeing the city, he wept over it, saying:41 Και οτε επλησιασεν, ιδων την πολιν εκλαυσεν επ' αυτην,
“If only you had known, indeed even in this your day, which things are for your peace. But now they are hidden from your eyes.42 λεγων, Ειθε να εγνωριζες και συ, τουλαχιστον εν τη ημερα σου ταυτη, τα προς ειρηνην σου αποβλεποντα? αλλα τωρα εκρυφθησαν απο των οφθαλμων σου?
For the days will overtake you. And your enemies will encircle you with a valley. And they will surround you and hem you in on every side.43 διοτι θελουσιν ελθει ημεραι επι σε και οι εχθροι σου θελουσι καμει χαρακωμα περι σε, και θελουσι σε περικυκλωσει και θελουσι σε στενοχωρησει πανταχοθεν,
And they will knock you down to the ground, with your sons who are in you. And they will not leave stone upon stone within you, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”44 και θελουσι κατεδαφισει σε και τα τεκνα σου εν σοι, και δεν θελουσιν αφησει εν σοι λιθον επι λιθον, διοτι δεν εγνωρισας τον καιρον της επισκεψεως σου.
And entering into the temple, he began to cast out those who sold in it, and those who bought,45 Και εισελθων εις το ιερον, ηρχισε να εκβαλλη τους πωλουντας εν αυτω και αγοραζοντας,
saying to them: “It is written: ‘My house is a house of prayer.’ But you have made it into a den of robbers.”46 λεγων προς αυτους?
And he was teaching in the temple daily. And the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, and the leaders of the people were seeking to destroy him.47 Και εδιδασκε καθ' ημεραν εν τω ιερω οι δε αρχιερεις και οι γραμματεις και οι πρωτοι του λαου εζητουν να απολεσωσιν αυτον.
But they could not find what to do to him. For all the people were listening to him attentively.48 Και δεν ευρισκον το τι να πραξωσι?
