Proverbs 31

1 The words of king Lamuel. The vision by which his mother instructed him:	1 Parole di Lemuèl, re di Massa, insegnategli da sua madre.
2 “What, O my beloved? What, O beloved of my womb? What, O beloved of my vows?	2 E che, figlio mio! E che, figlio del mio seno! E che, figlio dei miei voti!
3 Do not give your substance to women, or your riches to overthrow kings.	3 Non concedere alle donne il tuo vigore, i tuoi fianchi a quelle che rovinano i sovrani!
4 Not to kings, O Lamuel, not to kings give wine. For there are no secrets where drunkenness reigns.	4 Non conviene ai re, o Lemuèl, non conviene ai re bere vino, né ai prìncipi desiderar liquori,
5 And perhaps they may drink and forget judgments, and alter the case of the sons of the poor.	5 ché bevendo scordi ciò che ha decretato e àlteri il diritto a tutti gli infelici!
6 Give strong drink to the grieving, and wine to those who are bitter in soul.	6 Date bevande forti a chi sta per morire e vino a chi è nell'amarezza.
7 Let them drink, and forget their needs, and remember their sorrow no more.	7 Beva per dimenticar la sua miseria, e non ricordarsi più della sua pena.
8 Open your mouth for the mute and for all the cases of the sons who are passing through.	8 Apri la bocca tua per chi è muto, per la causa di tutti i derelitti!
9 Open your mouth, declare what is just, and do justice to the indigent and the poor.	9 Apri la bocca tua, giudica con giustizia, rendi giustizia all'infelice e al povero!
10 Who shall find a strong woman? Far away, and from the furthest parts, is her price.	10 Una donna efficiente chi la trova? E' superiore alle perle il suo valore.
11 The heart of her husband confides in her, and he will not be deprived of spoils.	11 Confida in lei il cuore di suo marito, che ne ricaverà sempre un vantaggio.
12 She will repay him with good, and not evil, all the days of her life.	12 Gli procura ciò che è bene, non il male, per tutti i giorni della sua vita.
13 She has sought wool and flax, and she has worked these by the counsel of her hands.	13 Si interessa della lana e del lino, sta sempre occupata con le mani.
14 She has become like a merchant’s ship, bringing her bread from far away.	14 E' come le navi d'un mercante, che fa venir da lontano il suo pane.
15 And she has risen in the night, and given a prey to her household, and provisions to her maids.	15 S'alza quando è ancora buio, per distribuire il vitto ai suoi domestici e dare ordini alle sue domestiche.
16 She has considered a field and bought it. From the fruit of her own hands, she has planted a vineyard.	16 Mette l'occhio su un campo e l'acquista; col frutto delle sue mani pianta una vigna.
17 She has wrapped her waist with fortitude, and she has strengthened her arm.	17 Stringe forte i propri fianchi, irrobustisce le sue braccia.
18 She has tasted and seen that her tasks are good; her lamp shall not be extinguished at night.	18 Sperimenta l'utilità del suo lavoro, non si spegne di notte la sua lampada.
19 She has put her hand to strong things, and her fingers have taken hold of the spindle.	19 Le sue mani ella mette alla conocchia, le sue dita si occupan del fuso.
20 She has opened her hand to the needy, and she has extended her hands to the poor.	20 Tende le sue mani verso il povero e le sue dita stende all'infelice.
21 She shall not fear, in the cold of snow, for her household. For all those of her household have been clothed two-fold.	21 Non teme la neve per i familiari, perché i domestici hanno doppia veste.
22 She has made embroidered clothing for herself. Fine linen and purple is her garment.	22 S'è procurata bei tappeti, bisso e porpora sono le sue vesti.
23 Her husband is noble at the gates, when he sits among the senators of the land.	23 E' stimato alla porta suo marito, quando siede con gli anziani del paese.
24 She has made finely woven cloth and sold it, and she has delivered a waistband to the Canaanite.	24 Tesse drappi di lino e li rivende, una cintura vende al commerciante.
25 Strength and elegance are her clothing, and she will laugh in the final days.	25 Forza e prestanza sono il suo vestito, guarda sicura al tempo avvenire.
26 She has opened her mouth to wisdom, and the law of clemency is on her tongue.	26 La sua bocca apre con saggezza, un insegnamento fedele è sopra la sua lingua.
27 She has considered the paths of her household, and she has not eaten her bread in idleness.	27 Sorveglia il va e vieni della casa, non mangia il pane della sua pigrizia.
28 Her sons rose up and predicted great happiness; her husband rose up and praised her.	28 Si levano i suoi figli, si felicitano con lei, suo marito tesse il suo elogio:
29 Many daughters have gathered together riches; you have surpassed them all.	29 Molte donne sono state efficienti, ma tu le sorpassi tutte quante.
30 Charm is false, and beauty is vain. The woman who fears the Lord, the same shall be praised.	30 Falsa è la grazia, vana la bellezza! La donna saggia, quella va lodata!
31 Give to her from the fruit of her own hands. And let her works praise her at the gates.	31 Datele il frutto delle proprie mani, la lodino alle porte le sue opere!
