Proverbs 1

1 The parables of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel,	1 Queste sono le parabole di Salomone, figliuolo del re David,
2 in order to know wisdom and discipline,	2 per dare sapienza e disciplina,
3 to understand words of prudence, and to accept the instruction of doctrine, justice and judgment, and equity,	3 per intender le parole della prudenza, e per ricever verace dottrina, giustizia, giudicio ed equità,
4 so as to give discernment to little ones, knowledge and understanding to adolescents.	4 acciò che a' fanciulli sia dato astuzia, e a' giovani scienza e intendimento.
5 By listening, the wise shall become wiser and the intelligent shall possess governments.	5 Udendo l'uomo savio, si farà più savio; e appararà di gubernare (sua vita e l'altrui).
6 He shall turn his soul to a parable and to its interpretation, to the words of the wise and their enigmas.	6 Considerarà le parabole e la interpretazione, le parole de' savii e gli loro parlari oscuri.
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. The foolish despise wisdom as well as doctrine.	7 Lo principio della sapienza è il timore di Dio. Ma i stulti spregiano la dottrina e la sapienza.
8 Listen, my son, to the discipline of your father, and forsake not the law of your mother,	8 O figliuolo, audi la disciplina (e la correzione). del tuo padre, e non spregiare la legge della madre tua,
9 so that grace may be added to your head and a collar to your neck.	9 acciò ch' egli creschi grazia al capo tuo, e orni il collo tuo.
10 My son, if sinners should entice you, do not consent to them.	10 Figliuolo mio, se gli uomini peccatori ti persuaderanno agli loro errori, non consentire a loro.
11 If they should say: “Come with us. We will lie in wait for blood. We will lay traps against the innocent, without cause.	11 Se diranno: vieni con noi, e mettiamo agguato contra la vita d' altrui, e poniamo secretamente i lacci contra allo innocente senza colpa (ovver sua cagione);
12 Let us swallow him alive, like Hell, and whole, like one descending into the pit.	12 deglutiamolo vivo, come fa lo inferno, e trattiamolo come degno di morte;
13 We will discover every precious substance. We will fill our houses with spoils.	13 e poi prenderemo il suo avere, e le sue cose metteremo nelle nostre case (egli è molto ricco);
14 Cast your lot with us. One purse will be for us all.”	14 ora accempàgnati con noi, e tutto il guadagno sia nostro a comune;
15 My son, do not walk with them. Preclude your feet from their paths.	15 figliuolo mio, non andare appresso a cotal gente, e guàrdati dalle loro vie.
16 For their feet rush to evil, and they hurry to shed blood.	16 Però che non intendono se non a far male, e non vogliono se non spander sangue (e uccider gente).
17 But a net is thrown in vain before the eyes of those who have wings.	17 Ma vanamente si tendono le reti dinanzi degli uomini prudenti.
18 Likewise, they lie in ambush against their own blood, and they undertake deceits against their own souls.	18 Ma in verità peccano contra a loro stessi, e fanno malizie contro a loro anime.
19 Thus, the ways of all those who are greedy seize the souls of those who possess.	19 Cotali sono le vie di tutti gli avari; molte cose penserà l'avaro, come possi acquistare l'avere delle genti.
20 Wisdom forewarns far and wide; she bestows her voice in the streets.	20 La sapienza prèdica (e grida) ne' luoghi manifesti, e nelle piazze estende la voce sua.
21 She cries out at the head of crowds; at the entrance of the gates of the city, she offers her words, saying:	21 (Con frequenza) grida dove si còngregano le turbe; nelle porte della città chiama in alto, e dice:
22 “Little ones, how long will you choose to be childish, and how long will the foolish desire what is harmful to themselves, and how long will the imprudent hate knowledge?	22 O voi, miei fanciulli, per che amate singularmente le cose puerili? e come stulti desiderate ciò che non vi giova? e come imprudenti avete in odio la scienza?
23 Be converted by my correction. Lo, I will offer my spirit to you, and I will reveal my words to you.	23 Convertitevi (e ritornate) alla mia correzione; e io vi manifestarò la mia intelligenza, e dimostrerovvi (per esperimento) lo effetto delle mie parole.
24 For I called, and you refused. I extended my hand, and there was no one who watched.	24 Per che io vi chiamai, e voi vi faceste beffe di me; io stesi la mano mia, e non fu chi guardasse.
25 You have despised all my counsels, and you have neglected my rebukes.	25 Avete spregiato ogni mio consiglio, e le reprensioni mie non avete estimate.
26 Similarly, I will ridicule you at your demise, and I will mock you, when that which you feared shall overcome you.	26 Anche nella destruzione vostra me ne riderò; e spregiarovvi, quando vi intraverrà quello di che vi temevi.
27 When sudden calamity rushes upon you, and your demise advances like a tempest, when tribulation and anguish overcome you,	27 Quando caderete repentinamente in calamitade, e lo interito quasi come sùbita tempesta sopra di voi ruinerà; quando sopra voi verrà tribulazione e angustia (sùbito vi dispiacerà);
28 then they will call to me, and I will not heed, they will arise in the morning, and not find me.	28 allora mi chiameranno, e io non esaudirò; la mattina si leveranno, e non mi troveranno.
29 For they held hatred for discipline, and they would not accept the fear of the Lord;	29 Però che loro non mi volsero udire, e non curarono del timore di Dio;
30 they would not consent to my counsel, but they detracted from all of my corrections.	30 nè si curorono del mio consiglio, e maledissero a tutte le mie correzioni.
31 Therefore, they shall eat the fruit of their way, and they shall have their fill of their own counsels.	31 Mangeranno de' frutti delle vie loro, e (delle opere) de' consigli loro si saziaranno.
32 The loathing of the little ones shall destroy them, and the prosperity of the foolish shall perish them.	32 La opera de' fanciulli (e puerile) ucciderà loro, e la prosperità de' pazzi perderà loro.
33 But whoever will listen to me shall rest without terror, and shall have full enjoyment of abundance, without fear of evils.”	33 Qualunque mi udirà si riposerà senza paura; e (con delettazione) si riposerà nell' abbondanza, rimosso il timore de' cattivi.
