Proverbs 1

1 The parables of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel,	1 I PROVERBI di Salomone, figliuolo di Davide, Re d’Israele;
2 in order to know wisdom and discipline,	2 Per conoscere sapienza ed ammaestramento, Per intendere i detti di senno;
3 to understand words of prudence, and to accept the instruction of doctrine, justice and judgment, and equity,	3 Per ricevere ammaestramento di buon senno, Di giustizia, di giudicio e di dirittura;
4 so as to give discernment to little ones, knowledge and understanding to adolescents.	4 Per dare avvedimento a’ semplici. E conoscenza, ed accorgimento a’ fanciulli.
5 By listening, the wise shall become wiser and the intelligent shall possess governments.	5 Il savio li udirà, e ne accrescerà la sua scienza; E l’uomo intendente ne acquisterà buoni consigli, e governo;
6 He shall turn his soul to a parable and to its interpretation, to the words of the wise and their enigmas.	6 Per comprender le sentenze ed i bei motti, Le parole de’ savi ed i lor detti oscuri
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. The foolish despise wisdom as well as doctrine.	7 IL timor del Signore è il capo della scienza; Ma gli stolti sprezzano la sapienza e l’ammaestramento.
8 Listen, my son, to the discipline of your father, and forsake not the law of your mother,	8 Ascolta, figliuol mio l’ammaestramento di tuo padre; E non lasciar l’insegnamento di tua madre;
9 so that grace may be added to your head and a collar to your neck.	9 Perciocchè saranno un fregio grazioso al tuo capo, E collane al tuo collo
10 My son, if sinners should entice you, do not consent to them.	10 Figliuol mio, se i peccatori ti vogliono sedurre, Non acconsentir loro.
11 If they should say: “Come with us. We will lie in wait for blood. We will lay traps against the innocent, without cause.	11 Se dicono: Vieni con noi, poniamo agguati al sangue, Insidiamo di nascosto l’innocente impunitamente;
12 Let us swallow him alive, like Hell, and whole, like one descending into the pit.	12 Tranghiottiamoli tutti vivi, come il sepolcro; E tutti intieri, a guisa di quelli che scendono nella fossa;
13 We will discover every precious substance. We will fill our houses with spoils.	13 Noi troveremo ogni sorte di preziosi beni, Noi empieremo le nostre case di spoglie;
14 Cast your lot with us. One purse will be for us all.”	14 Tu trarrai la tua sorte con noi; Fra noi non vi sarà che una sola borsa;
15 My son, do not walk with them. Preclude your feet from their paths.	15 Figliuol mio, non inviarti con loro; Rattieni il tuo piè dal lor sentiero.
16 For their feet rush to evil, and they hurry to shed blood.	16 Perciocchè i lor piedi corrono al male, E si affrettano a spandere il sangue.
17 But a net is thrown in vain before the eyes of those who have wings.	17 Perciocchè invano si tende la rete Dinanzi agli occhi d’ogni uccello;
18 Likewise, they lie in ambush against their own blood, and they undertake deceits against their own souls.	18 Ma essi pongono agguati al lor proprio sangue, Ed insidiano nascosamente l’anima loro.
19 Thus, the ways of all those who are greedy seize the souls of those who possess.	19 Tali sono i sentieri d’ogni uomo dato all’avarizia; Ella coglie l’anima di coloro in cui ella si trova
20 Wisdom forewarns far and wide; she bestows her voice in the streets.	20 LA somma Sapienza grida di fuori; Ella fa sentir la sua voce per le piazze;
21 She cries out at the head of crowds; at the entrance of the gates of the city, she offers her words, saying:	21 Ella grida in capo de’ luoghi delle turbe; Ella pronunzia i suoi ragionamenti nell’entrate delle porte, nella città,
22 “Little ones, how long will you choose to be childish, and how long will the foolish desire what is harmful to themselves, and how long will the imprudent hate knowledge?	22 Dicendo: Infino a quando, o scempi, amerete la scempietà? Ed infino a quando gli schernitori prenderanno piacere in ischernire, Ed i pazzi avranno in odio la scienza?
23 Be converted by my correction. Lo, I will offer my spirit to you, and I will reveal my words to you.	23 Convertitevi alla mia riprensione; Ecco, io vi sgorgherò lo spirito mio; Io vi farò assapere le mie parole.
24 For I called, and you refused. I extended my hand, and there was no one who watched.	24 Perciocchè io ho gridato, e voi avete ricusato di ascoltare; Io ho distesa la mano, e niuno ha porto attenzione;
25 You have despised all my counsels, and you have neglected my rebukes.	25 Ed avete lasciato ogni mio consiglio, E non avete gradita la mia correzione;
26 Similarly, I will ridicule you at your demise, and I will mock you, when that which you feared shall overcome you.	26 Io altresì riderò della vostra calamità; Io mi farò beffe, quando il vostro spavento sarà venuto;
27 When sudden calamity rushes upon you, and your demise advances like a tempest, when tribulation and anguish overcome you,	27 Quando il vostro spavento sarà venuto, a guisa di ruina, E la vostra calamità sarà giunta, a guisa di turbo; Quando angoscia e distretta vi sarà sopraggiunta.
28 then they will call to me, and I will not heed, they will arise in the morning, and not find me.	28 Allora essi grideranno a me, ma io non risponderò; Mi ricercheranno sollecitamente, ma non mi troveranno;
29 For they held hatred for discipline, and they would not accept the fear of the Lord;	29 Perciocchè hanno odiata la scienza, E non hanno eletto il timor del Signore;
30 they would not consent to my counsel, but they detracted from all of my corrections.	30 E non hanno gradito il mio consiglio, Ed hanno disdegnata ogni mia correzione.
31 Therefore, they shall eat the fruit of their way, and they shall have their fill of their own counsels.	31 Perciò mangeranno del frutto delle lor vie, E saranno saziati de’ lor consigli.
32 The loathing of the little ones shall destroy them, and the prosperity of the foolish shall perish them.	32 Perciocchè lo sviamento degli scempi li uccide, E l’error degli stolti li fa perire.
33 But whoever will listen to me shall rest without terror, and shall have full enjoyment of abundance, without fear of evils.”	33 Ma chi mi ascolta abiterà in sicurtà, E viverà in riposo, fuor di spavento di male
