Psalms 34

1 Of David himself. O Lord, judge those who harm me; assail those who attack me.	1 - Di David. Giudica, o Signore, quei che mi fan del male, combatti quei che mi combattono.
2 Take hold of weapons and a shield, and rise up in assistance to me.	2 Piglia le armi e lo scudoe lèvati in mio aiuto.
3 Bring forth the spear, and close in on those who persecute me. Say to my soul, “I am your salvation.”	3 Sguaina la spada e sbarra [la via] di fronte a' miei persecutori, di' all'anima mia: «Io son la salvezza!».
4 Let them be confounded and in awe, who pursue my soul. Let them be turned back and be confounded, who think up evil against me.	4 Sian confusi e svergognati quei che insidian la mia vita, sian volti in fuga e confusi quei che mi traman sciagure.
5 May they become like dust before the face of the wind, and let the Angel of the Lord hem them in.	5 Divengan come polvere in faccia al vento, e l'angelo del Signore li spinga via.
6 May their way become dark and slippery, and may the Angel of the Lord pursue them.	6 Sia la via loro tenebre e sdrucciolo, e l'angelo del Signore gl'incalzi.
7 For, without cause, they have concealed their snare for me unto destruction. Over nothing, they have rebuked my soul.	7 Perché senza ragione han nascosto per me il loro laccio di morte, senza motivo han colmato d'obbrobri l'anima mia.
8 Let the snare, of which he is ignorant, come upon him, and let the deception, which he has hidden, take hold of him: and may he fall into that very snare.	8 Gli venga addosso [a ciascuno] la rovina cui non pensa, e la rete che ha nascosto l'acchiappi, e qui nel laccio e' cada [in malora].
9 But my soul will exult in the Lord and delight over his salvation.	9 Allora l'anima mia esulterà nel Signore, e si rallegrerà della salvezza da lui [venuta].
10 All my bones will say, “Lord, who is like you?” He rescues the needy from the hand of the stronger one, the indigent and the poor from those who plunder him.	10 Tutte le mie ossa diranno:«0 Signore, chi mai è come te? Tu che liberi il misero dalle mani de' più forti, il meschino e il povero da quei che lo spogliano».
11 Unfair witnesses have risen up, interrogating me about things of which I am ignorant.	11 Si levan su testimoni iniqui, di cose che ignoro mi domandan conto,
12 They repaid me evil for good, to the deprivation of my soul.	12 mi rendon male per bene, sterilità [preparano] all'anima mia.
13 But as for me, when they were harassing me, I was clothed with haircloth. I humbled my soul with fasting, and my prayer will become my sinews.	13 Io invece, quand'erano infermi, vestivo il cilicio, mortificavo col digiuno l'anima mia, e la mia orazione si ripercoteva sul mio seno.
14 Like a neighbor, and like our brother, so did I please; like one mourning and contrite, so was I humbled.	14 Come d'un amico e d'un fratello mi pigliavo cura [d'ognuno di loro] ; quasi in lutto e tristezza, me n'andavo curvo così.
15 And they have been joyful against me, and they joined together. Scourges have been gathered over me, and I was ignorant of it.	15 Ed [or ch'io vacillo], contro di me si rallegrano e s'adunano: s'adunan contro di me per colpirmi a mia insaputa,
16 They have been scattered, yet they were unremorseful. They have tested me. They scoffed at me with scorn. They gnashed their teeth over me.	16 mi dilanian senza mai cessare, mi tentano, mi scherniscono con scherno [feroce], digrignan contro di me i loro denti.
17 Lord, when will you look down upon me? Restore my soul from before their malice, my only one from before the lions.	17 O Signore, [sino a] quando starai a guardare? Salva l'anima mia dalla loro malvagità, dai leoni l'unico mio [bene].
18 I will confess to you in a great Church. I will praise you among a weighty people.	18 Ti celebrerò in assemblea numerosa, tra denso popolo ti loderò.
19 May those who are my unjust adversaries not be glad over me: those who have hated me without cause, and who nod agreement with their eyes.	19 Non gioiscano di me quelli che iniquamente m'avversano; quei che m'odian senza ragione non ammicchino con gli occhi!
20 For indeed, they spoke peacefully to me; and speaking with passion to the earth, they intended deceit.	20 Poichè non parlan di pace, e contro i mansueti della terra tramano inganni.
21 And they opened their mouth wide over me. They said, “Well, well, our eyes have seen.”	21 E spalancan su me la loro bocca, dicono: «Bene, bene! han visto i nostri occhi [quel che volevamo]!».
22 You have seen, O Lord, do not be silent. Lord, do not depart from me.	22 [Tu pure] hai visto, o Signore; non startene zitto!0 Signore, non ti allontanar da me.
23 Rise up and be attentive to my judgment, to my cause, my God and my Lord.	23 Lèvati e prendi a cuore il mio giudizio: o Dio mio e mio Signore, [prendi a cuore] la mia causa.
24 Judge me according to your justice, O Lord, my God, and do not let them be glad over me.	24 Giudicami secondo la tua giustizia, Signore Dio mio, e non godano a motivo di me.
25 Do not let them say in their hearts, “Well, well, to our soul.” Neither let them say, “We have devoured him.”	25 Non dicano in cuor loro: «Bene, bene per noi!», non dicano: «L'abbiam divorato!».
26 Let them blush and be in awe together, those who congratulate at my misfortunes. Let them be clothed with confusion and awe, who speak great things against me.	26 Arrossiscano e sian svergognati a un tempoquei che si rallegrano delle mie sciagure, sian coperti di confusione e di vergognaquei che parlano arrogantemente contro di me.
27 Let them exult and rejoice, who wish my justice, and let them ever say, “The Lord be magnified,” who will the peace of his servant.	27 Esultino e si rallegrino quanti favoriscon la mia giustizia; e dican sempre: «Sia magnificato il Signore, che vuole la pace del mio servo!».
28 And so my tongue will express your justice: your praise all day long.	28 E la mia lingua celebrerà la tua giustizia, tutto il giorno [canterà] la tua lode.
