Hosea 12

1 Ephraim has surrounded me with lies, the house of Israel, with deceit; Judah is still rebellious against God, against the Holy One, who is faithful.	1 Efraim mi circonda di menzogna, la casa d'Israele d'inganno. Giuda, invece, Dio ora lo conosce ed è chiamato il popolo del Santo.
2 Ephraim chases the wind, ever pursuing the gale. His lies and falsehoods are many: he comes to terms with Assyria, and carries oil to Egypt.	2 Efraim si pasce di vento, segue sempre il vento d'oriente, moltiplica menzogna e violenza; fanno alleanza con l'Assiria, portano olio all'Egitto.
3 The LORD has a grievance against Israel: he shall punish Jacob for his conduct, for his deeds he shall repay him.	3 Il Signore è in lite con Israele, tratterà Giacobbe secondo le sue vie, secondo le sue opere lo ripagherà.
4 In the womb he supplanted his brother, and as a man he contended with God;	4 Nel seno materno soppiantò il fratello e sentendosi forte lottò con Dio.
5 He contended with the angel and triumphed, entreating him with tears. At Bethel he met God and there he spoke with him:	5 Egli lottò con l'angelo e lo sopraffece, ma pianse e ottenne pietà. Lo incontrò a Betel e lì gli parlò.
6 The LORD, the God of hosts, the LORD is his name!	6 Signore, Dio degli eserciti, Signore è il suo nome.
7 You shall return by the help of your God, if you remain loyal and do right and always hope in your God.	7 E tu, tu torna al tuo Dio, rispetta l'amore e la giustizia e spera sempre nel tuo Dio.
8 A merchant who holds a false balance, who loves to defraud!	8 Canaan tiene in mano bilance false, ama la frode.
9 Though Ephraim says, "How rich I have become; I have made a fortune!" All his gain shall not suffice him for the guilt of his sin.	9 Efraim dice: "Come mi sono arricchito! Mi sono fatto una fortuna!". Ma di tutti i suoi vantaggi niente rimarrà per il peccato che ha commesso.
10 I am the LORD, your God, since the land of Egypt; I will again have you live in tents, as in that appointed time.	10 Io sono il Signore tuo Dio fin dalla terra d'Egitto. Io ti farò abitare ancora sotto le tende come ai giorni dell'incontro.
11 I granted many visions and spoke to the prophets, through whom I set forth examples.	11 Io parlerò ai profeti, moltiplicherò le visioni, per mezzo dei profeti proporrò parabole.
12 In Gilead is falsehood, they have come to nought, in Gilgal they sacrifice to bullocks; Their altars are like heaps of stones in the furrows of the field.	12 Gàlaad è iniquità; essi non sono che menzogna; a Gàlgala hanno sacrificato ai tori; perciò i loro altari saranno come mucchi di pietre lungo i solchi dei campi.
13 When Jacob fled to the land of Aram, he served for a wife; for a wife Israel tended sheep.	13 Giacobbe fuggì nella pianura dell'Aram, Israele servì per una donna, per una donna fu custode di greggi.
14 By a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet they were protected.	14 Ma per mezzo di un profeta il Signore trasse Israele dall'Egitto e per mezzo di un profeta lo custodì.
15 Ephraim has exasperated his lord; therefore he shall cast his blood-guilt upon him and repay him for his outrage.	15 Efraim invece gli ha procurato amarezze; il Signore farà ricadere il suo sangue su di lui, su di lui riverserà il suo oltraggio.
