2 when Nathan the prophet came to him after his affair with Bathsheba.	2 quando si presentò a lui il profeta Natan a causa del suo peccato con Betsabea.
3 Have mercy on me, God, in your goodness; in your abundant compassion blot out my offense.	3 Abbi pietà di me, o Dio, secondo la tua misericordia, nella tua grande bontà cancella il mio peccato;
4 Wash away all my guilt; from my sin cleanse me.	4 lavami da tutte le mie colpe, mondami dal mio peccato.
5 For I know my offense; my sin is always before me.	5 La mia colpa io conosco, il mio peccato mi sta sempre dinanzi.
6 Against you alone have I sinned; I have done such evil in your sight That you are just in your sentence, blameless when you condemn.	6 Contro te, contro te solo ho peccato, quello che ai tuoi occhi è male, io l'ho fatto; affinché tu appaia giusto nella tua sentenza, retto nel tuo giudizio.
7 True, I was born guilty, a sinner, even as my mother conceived me.	7 Ecco: nella colpa sono stato generato, nel peccato mi ha concepito mia madre.
8 Still, you insist on sincerity of heart; in my inmost being teach me wisdom.	8 Ecco: sincerità tu vuoi nell'intimo e sapienza tu m'insegni nel segreto.
9 Cleanse me with hyssop, that I may be pure; wash me, make me whiter than snow.	9 Purificami con l'issopo e sarò mondo, lavami e sarò più bianco della neve.
10 Let me hear sounds of joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.	10 Fammi risentire gioia e letizia, fa' che esultino le ossa che hai fiaccato.
11 Turn away your face from my sins; blot out all my guilt.	11 Distogli lo sguardo dai miei peccati, cancella tutte le mie colpe.
12 A clean heart create for me, God; renew in me a steadfast spirit.	12 Un cuore puro crea in me, o Dio, in me rinnova uno spirito saldo.
13 Do not drive me from your presence, nor take from me your holy spirit.	13 Non respingermi dalla tua presenza, non privarmi del tuo santo spirito.
14 Restore my joy in your salvation; sustain in me a willing spirit.	14 Rendimi la gioia della tua salvezza, mi sostenga un animo generoso.
15 I will teach the wicked your ways, that sinners may return to you.	15 Insegnerò agli erranti le tue vie e a te ritorneranno i peccatori.
16 Rescue me from death, God, my saving God, that my tongue may praise your healing power.	16 Liberami dal sangue, o Dio, Dio della mia salvezza: la mia lingua esalti la tua giustizia.
17 Lord, open my lips; my mouth will proclaim your praise.	17 Apri le mie labbra, o Signore, e la mia bocca annunzi la tua lode.
18 For you do not desire sacrifice; a burnt offering you would not accept.	18 Poiché il sacrificio tu non gradisci e se offro l'olocausto, tu non l'accetti.
19 My sacrifice, God, is a broken spirit; God, do not spurn a broken, humbled heart.	19 Il mio sacrificio, o Dio, è uno spirito contrito, un cuore contrito e umiliato tu non disprezzi, o Dio.
20 Make Zion prosper in your good pleasure; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.	20 Nella tua benevolenza sii propizio a Sion, riedifica le mura di Gerusalemme.
21 Then you will be pleased with proper sacrifice, burnt offerings and holocausts; then bullocks will be offered on your altar.	21 Allora gradirai di nuovo i sacrifici legittimi, l'olocausto e l'intera oblazione; allora s'immoleranno le vittime sul tuo altare.
