1 On his arrival in Jerusalem Rehoboam gathered together the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand seasoned warriors, to have them fight against Israel and restore the kingdom to him.	1 Roboamo, giunto in Gerusalemme, vi convocò le tribù di Giuda e di Beniamino, centottantamila guerrieri scelti, per combattere contro Israele allo scopo di riconquistare il regno a Roboamo.
2 However, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, a man of God:	2 Ma questa parola del Signore fu rivolta a Semaia:
3 "Say to Rehoboam, son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all the Israelites in Judah and Benjamin:	3 "Annunzia a Roboamo figlio di Salomone, re di Giuda, e a tutti gli Israeliti che sono in Giuda e in Beniamino:
4 'Thus says the LORD: You must not march out to fight against your brothers. Let every man return home, for what has occurred I have brought about.'" They obeyed this message of the LORD and gave up the expedition against Jeroboam.	4 Dice il Signore: Non andate a combattere contro i vostri fratelli. Ognuno torni a casa, perché questa situazione è stata voluta da me". Ascoltarono le parole del Signore e rinunziarono a marciare contro Geroboamo.
5 Rehoboam took up residence in Jerusalem and built fortified cities in Judah.	5 Roboamo abitò in Gerusalemme. Egli trasformò in fortezze alcune città di Giuda.

11 Then he strengthened the fortifications and put commanders in them, with supplies of food, oil and wine.	11 Egli rafforzò queste fortezze, vi prepose comandanti e vi stabilì depositi di cibarie, di olio e di vino.
12 In every city were shields and spears, and he made them very strong. Thus Judah and Benjamin remained his.	12 In ogni città depositò scudi e lance, rendendole fortissime. Rimasero fedeli Giuda e Beniamino.
13 Now the priests and Levites throughout Israel presented themselves to him from all parts of their land,	13 I sacerdoti e i leviti, che erano in tutto Israele, si radunarono da tutto il loro territorio per passare dalla sua parte.
14 for the Levites left their assigned pasture lands and their holdings and came to Judah and Jerusalem, because Jeroboam and his sons repudiated them as priests of the LORD.	14 Sì, i leviti lasciarono i pascoli, le proprietà e andarono in Giuda e in Gerusalemme, perché Geroboamo e i suoi figli li avevano esclusi dal sacerdozio del Signore.
15 In their place, he himself appointed priests for the high places and satyrs and calves he had made.	15 Geroboamo aveva stabilito suoi sacerdoti per le alture, per i demoni e per i vitelli che aveva eretti.
16 After them, all those of the Israelite tribes who firmly desired to seek the LORD, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the LORD, the God of their fathers.	16 Dopo, da tutto Israele quanti avevano determinato in cuor loro di rimanere fedeli al Signore, Dio di Israele, andarono in Gerusalemme per sacrificare al Signore, Dio dei loro padri.
17 Thus they strengthened the kingdom of Judah and made Rehoboam, son of Solomon, prevail for three years; for they walked in the way of David and Solomon three years.	17 Così rafforzarono il regno di Giuda e sostennero Roboamo figlio di Salomone, per tre anni, perché per tre anni egli imitò la condotta di Davide e di Salomone.
18 Rehoboam took to himself as wife Mahalath, daughter of Jerimoth, son of David and of Abihail, daughter of Eliab, son of Jesse.	18 Roboamo si prese in moglie Macalat figlia di Ierimot, figlio di Davide, e di Abiàil figlia di Eliàb, figlio di Iesse.
19 She bore him sons: Jehush, Shemariah and Zaham.	19 Essa gli partorì i figli Ieus, Semaria e Zaam.
20 After her, he married Maacah, daughter of Absalom, who bore him Abijah, Attai, Ziza and Shelomith.	20 Dopo di lei prese Maaca figlia di Assalonne, che gli partorì Abia, Attài, Ziza e Selomìt.
21 Rehoboam loved Maacah, daughter of Absalom, more than all his other wives and concubines; he had taken eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and he fathered twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.	21 Roboamo amò Maaca figlia di Assalonne più di tutte le altre mogli e concubine; egli prese diciotto mogli e sessanta concubine e generò ventotto figli e sessanta figlie.
22 Rehoboam constituted Abijah, son of Maacah, commander among his brothers, for he intended to make him king.	22 Roboamo costituì Abia figlio di Maaca capo, ossia principe tra i suoi fratelli, perché pensava di farlo re.
23 He acted prudently, distributing various of his sons throughout all the districts of Judah and Benjamin, in all the fortified cities; and he furnished them with copious provisions and sought an abundance of wives for them.	23 Con astuzia egli sparse in tutte le contrade di Giuda e di Beniamino, in tutte le fortezze, alcuni suoi figli.
