A psalm for David. Of the sons of Jonadab, and the former captives. In thee, O Lord, I have hoped, let me never be put to confusion: | 1 In you, LORD, I take refuge; let me never be put to shame. |
deliver me in thy justice, and rescue me. Incline thy ear unto me, and save me. | 2 In your justice rescue and deliver me; listen to me and save me! |
Be thou unto me a God, a protector, and a place of strength: that thou mayst make me safe. For thou art my firmament and my refuge. | 3 Be my rock and refuge, my secure stronghold; for you are my rock and fortress. |
Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the sinner, and out of the hand of the transgressor of the law and of the unjust. | 4 My God, rescue me from the power of the wicked, from the clutches of the violent. |
For thou art my patience, O Lord: my hope, O Lord, from my youth; | 5 You are my hope, Lord; my trust, GOD, from my youth. |
By thee have I been confirmed from the womb: from my mother's womb thou art my protector. Of thee shall I continually sing: | 6 On you I depend since birth; from my mother's womb you are my strength; my hope in you never wavers. |
I run become unto many as a wonder, but thou art a strong helper. | 7 I have become a portent to many, but you are my strong refuge! |
Let my mouth be filled with praise, that I may sing thy glory; thy greatness all the day long. | 8 My mouth shall be filled with your praise, shall sing your glory every day. |
Cast me not off in the time of old age: when my strength shall fail, do not thou forsake me. | 9 Do not cast me aside in my old age; as my strength fails, do not forsake me. |
For my enemies have spoken against me; and they that watched my soul have consulted together, | 10 For my enemies speak against me; they watch and plot against me. |
Saying: God hath forsaken him: pursue and take him, for there is none to deliver him. | 11 They say, "God has abandoned that one Pursue, seize the wretch! No one will come to the rescue!" |
O God, be not thou far from me: O my God, make haste to my help. | 12 God, do not stand far from me; my God, hasten to help me. |
Let them be confounded and come to nothing that detract my soul; let them be covered with confusion and shame that seek my hurt. | 13 Bring to a shameful end those who attack me; Cover with contempt and scorn those who seek my ruin. |
But I will always hope; and will add to all thy praise. | 14 I will always hope in you and add to all your praise. |
My mouth shall shew forth thy justice; thy salvation all the day long. Because I have not knows learning, | 15 My mouth shall proclaim your just deeds, day after day your acts of deliverance, though I cannot number them all. |
I will enter into the powers of the Lord: O Lord, I will be mindful of thy justice alone. | 16 I will speak of the mighty works of the Lord; O GOD, I will tell of your singular justice. |
Thou hast taught me, O God, from my youth: and till now I will declare thy wonderful works. | 17 God, you have taught me from my youth; to this day I proclaim your wondrous deeds. |
And unto old age and grey hairs: O God, forsake me not, Until I shew forth thy arm to all the generation that is to come: Thy power, | 18 Now that I am old and gray, do not forsake me, God, That I may proclaim your might to all generations yet to come, Your power |
and thy justice, O God, even to the highest great things thou hast done: O God, who is like to thee? | 19 and justice, God, to the highest heaven. You have done great things; O God, who is your equal? |
How great troubles hast thou shewn me, many and grievous: and turning thou hast brought me to life, and hast brought me back again from the depths of the earth : | 20 You have sent me many bitter afflictions, but once more revive me. From the watery depths of the earth once more raise me up. |
Thou hast multiplied thy magnificence; and turning to me thou hast comforted me. | 21 Restore my honor; turn and comfort me, |
For I will also confess to thee thy truth with the instruments of psaltery: O God, I will sing to thee with the harp, thou holy one of Israel. | 22 That I may praise you with the lyre for your faithfulness, my God, And sing to you with the harp, O Holy One of Israel! |
My lips shall greatly rejoice, when I shall sing to thee; and my soul which thou hast redeemed. | 23 My lips will shout for joy as I sing your praise; my soul, too, which you have redeemed. |
Yea and my tongue shall meditate on thy justice all the day; when they shall be confounded and put to shame that seek evils to me. | 24 Yes, my tongue shall recount your justice day by day. For those who sought my ruin will have been shamed and disgraced. |
