1 Le donne savie edificano le lor case; Ma la stolta la sovverte con le sue mani	1 A wise woman builds up her household. But a foolish one will pull down with her own hands what has been built up.
2 Chi cammina nella sua dirittura riverisce il Signore; Ma chi è stravolto nelle sue vie lo sprezza	2 One who walks on a virtuous journey, and who fears God, is despised by him who advances along a disreputable way.
3 Nella bocca dello stolto è la bacchetta dell’alterezza; Ma le labbra de’ savi li guardano	3 In the mouth of the foolish, there is a rod of arrogance. But the lips of the wise guard them.
4 Dove non son buoi, il granaio è vuoto; Ma l’abbondanza della ricolta è per la forza del bue	4 Where there are no oxen, the feeding trough is empty. But where there are many crops, there the strength of the ox is manifest.
5 Il testimonio verace non mente; Ma il falso testimonio sbocca bugie	5 A faithful witness will not lie. But a deceitful witness offers a lie.
6 Lo schernitore cerca la sapienza, e non la trova punto; Ma la scienza agevolmente si acquista dall’uomo intendente	6 A mocker seeks wisdom and does not find it. The doctrine of the prudent is accessible.
7 Vattene via d’innanzi all’uomo stolto, E d’innanzi a colui, nel quale non avrai conosciute labbra di scienza	7 Go against a foolish man, and he does not acknowledge lips of prudence.
8 La sapienza dell’uomo è di considerar la sua via; Ma la follia degli stolti è inganno	8 The wisdom of a discerning man is to understand his way. And the imprudence of the foolish is to be wandering astray.
9 Gli stolti si fanno beffe del commetter misfatto; Ma fra gli uomini diritti è la benevolenza	9 The foolish will speak mockingly of sin. But grace lingers among the just.
10 Il cuore di ciascuno conosce l’amaritudine dell’anima sua; Ed altresì alcuno strano non è mescolato nella sua allegrezza	10 The heart that knows the bitterness of its own soul, in its gladness the outsider shall not meddle.
11 La casa degli empi sarà distrutta; Ma il tabernacolo degli uomini diritti fiorirà	11 The house of the impious will be wiped away. Yet truly, the tabernacles of the just shall spring forth.
12 Vi è tal via che pare diritta all’uomo, Il fine della quale son le vie della morte	12 There is a way which seems just to a man, but its conclusion leads to death.
13 Come di troppo ridere duole il cuore, Così la fine dell’allegrezza è dolore	13 Laughter shall be mingled with sorrow, and mourning occupies the limits of joy.
14 Chi è sviato di cuore sarà saziato delle sue vie; E più ch’esso lo sarà l’uomo da bene delle sue	14 The foolish will be filled up by his own ways. And the good man shall be above him.
15 Lo scempio crede ogni cosa; Ma l’avveduto considera i suoi passi	15 The innocent trust every word. The astute one considers his own steps. Nothing good will be for the deceitful son. But the wise servant shall act prosperously and his way will be set in order.
16 Il savio teme, e si ritrae dal male; Ma lo stolto trascorre, e si tien sicuro	16 The wise fear, and so turn away from evil. The foolish leap ahead with confidence.
17 Chi è pronto all’ira commette follia; E l’uomo malizioso è odiato	17 The impatient will work foolishness. And a resourceful man is hated.
18 Gli scempi erederanno la stoltizia; Ma i prudenti coroneranno il lor capo di scienza	18 The childish will possess foolishness, and the discerning will anticipate knowledge.
19 I malvagi saranno abbassati davanti a’ buoni; E gli empi saranno alle porte del giusto	19 The evil will fall down before the good. And the impious will fall down before the gates of the just.
20 Il povero è odiato eziandio dal suo prossimo; Ma molti son gli amici del ricco	20 The pauper will be hated, even by his own neighbor. Yet truly, the friends of the wealthy are many.
21 Chi sprezza il suo prossimo pecca; Ma beato chi ha pietà de’ poveri	21 Whoever despises his neighbor, sins. But whoever pities the poor shall be blessed. Whoever trusts in the Lord loves mercy.
22 Quelli che macchinano del male non sono eglino traviati? Ma benignità e verità sarà usata inverso coloro che pensano del bene	22 They wander astray who work evil. But mercy and truth prepare good things.
23 In ogni fatica vi è del profitto; Ma il parlar delle labbra torna solo in inopia	23 In every work, there shall be abundance. But where there are many words, there is often need.
24 Le ricchezze de’ savi sono la lor corona; Ma la follia degli stolti è sempre follia	24 The crown of the wise is their wealth. The senselessness of the foolish is imprudence.
25 Il testimonio verace libera le anime; Ma il falso sbocca bugie	25 A faithful witness frees souls. And the chameleon utters lies.
26 Nel timor del Signore vi è confidanza fortissima; E vi sarà un ricetto per li figliuoli di colui che teme Iddio.	26 In the fear of the Lord is the faithfulness of strength, and there shall be hope for his sons.
27 Il timor del Signore è una fonte di vita, Per ritrarsi da’ lacci della morte	27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, so as to turn aside from the ruin of death.
28 La magnificenza del re è nella moltitudine del popolo; Ma la ruina del principe è nel mancamento della gente	28 In a multitude of people, there is dignity for the king. And in a paucity of people, there is disgrace for the prince.
29 Chi è lento all’ira è di gran prudenza; Ma chi è pronto al cruccio eccita la follia	29 Whoever is patient is governed by much prudence. But whoever is impatient exalts his foolishness.
30 Il cuor sano è la vita delle carni; Ma l’invidia è il tarlo delle ossa	30 The well-being of the heart is life for the flesh. But envy is decay for the bones.
31 Chi oppressa il povero fa onta a colui che l’ha fatto; Ma chi ha pietà del bisognoso l’onora	31 Whoever slanders the indigent argues against his Maker. But he who has compassion on the poor honors his Maker.
32 L’empio sarà traboccato per la sua malvagità; Ma il giusto spera eziandio nella sua morte	32 The impious will be expelled in his malice. But the just finds hope even in his own death.
33 La sapienza riposa nel cuore dell’uomo intendente, Ed è riconosciuta in mezzo degli stolti	33 In the heart of the prudent, wisdom finds rest. And so shall he instruct all the uneducated.
34 La giustizia innalza la nazione; Ma il peccato è il vituperio de’ popoli	34 Justice elevates a nation. But sin makes the peoples miserable.
35 Il favor del re è verso il servitore intendente; Ma la sua indegnazione è contro a quello che reca vituperio	35 An intelligent minister is acceptable to the king. Whoever is useless shall bear his wrath.
