1 En aquellos días, la comunidad entera de los hijos de Israel llegó al desierto de Sin el mes primero y el pueblo se instaló en Cadés. Allí murió María y allí la enterraron.	1 And the children of Israel, and all the multitude came into the desert of Sin, in the first month: and the people abode in Cades. And Mary died there, and was buried in the same place.
2 Faltó agua a la comunidad y se amotinaron contra Moisés y Aarón.	2 And the people wanting water, came together against Moses and Aaron:
3 El pueblo protestó contra Moisés diciendo: «¡Ojalá hubiéramos muerto como nuestros hermanos, delante del Señor!	3 And making a sedition, they said: Would God we had perished among our brethren before the Lord.
4 ¿Por qué has traído a la comunidad del Señor a este desierto, para que muramos en él nosotros y nuestras bestias?	4 Why have you brought out the church of the Lord into the wilderness, that both we and our cattle should die?
5 ¿Por qué nos has sacado de Egipto para traernos a este sitio horrible, que no tiene grano ni higueras ni viñas ni granados ni agua para beber?».	5 Why have you made us come up out of Egypt, and have brought us into this wretched place which cannot be sowed, nor bringeth forth figs, nor vines, nor pomegranates, neither is there any water to drink?
6 Moisés y Aarón se apartaron de la comunidad y se dirigieron a la entrada de la Tienda del Encuentro, y se postraron rostro en tierra delante de ella. La gloria del Señor se les apareció,	6 And Moses and Aaron leaving the multitude, went into the tabernacle of the covenant, and fell flat upon the ground, and cried to the Lord, and said: O Lord God, hear the cry of this people, and open to them thy treasure, a fountain of living water, that being satisfied, they may cease to murmur. And the glory of the Lord appeared over them.
7 y el Señor dijo a Moisés:	7 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
8 «Coge la vara y reunid la asamblea, tú y tu hermano Aarón, y habladle a la roca en presencia de ellos y ella dará agua. Luego saca agua de la roca y dales de beber a ellos y a sus bestias».	8 Take the rod, and assemble the people together, thou and Aaron thy brother, and speak to the rock before them, and it shall yield waters. And when thou hast brought forth water out of the rock, all the multitude and their cattle shall drink.
9 Moisés retiró la vara de la presencia del Señor, como se lo mandaba.	9 Moses therefore took the rod, which was before the Lord, as he had commanded him,
10 Moisés y Aarón reunieron la asamblea delante de la roca; Moisés les dijo: «Escuchad, rebeldes: ¿Creéis que podemos sacaros agua de esta roca?».	10 And having gathered together the multitude before the rock, he said to them: Hear, ye rebellious and incredulous: Can we bring you forth water out of this rock?
11 Moisés alzó la mano y golpeó la roca con la vara dos veces, y brotó agua tan abundante que bebió toda la comunidad y las bestias.	11 And when Moses had lifted up his hand, and struck the rook twice with the rod, there came forth water in great abundance, so that the people and their cattle drank,
12 El Señor dijo a Moisés y a Aarón: «Por no haberme creído, por no haber reconocido mi santidad en presencia de los hijos de Israel, no haréis entrar a esta comunidad en la tierra que les he dado».	12 And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron: Because you have not believed me, to sanctify me before the children of Israel, you shall not bring these people into the land, which I will give them.
13 (Esta es la Fuente de Meribá, donde los hijos de Israel disputaron con el Señor y él les mostró su santidad).	13 This is the Water of contradiction, where the children of Israel strove with words against the Lord, and he was sanctified in them.
14 Moisés envió mensajeros desde Cadés: «Al rey de Edón. Así dice tu hermano Israel: Ya sabes por qué grandes fatigas hemos pasado	14 In the mean time Moses sent messengers from Cades to the king of Edom, to say: Thus saith thy brother Israel: Thou knowest all the labour that hath come upon us:
15 Nuestros padres bajaron a Egipto y nos quedamos en Egipto mucho tiempo. Pero los egipcios nos trataron mal, a nosotros igual que a nuestros padres.	15 In what manner our fathers went down into Egypt, and there we dwelt a long time, and the Egyptians afflicted us and our fathers.
16 Clamamos entonces al Señor y él escuchó nuestra voz: envió un ángel, y nos sacó de Egipto. Ahora estamos en Cadés, ciudad que linda con tu territorio.	16 And how we cried to the Lord, and he heard us, and sent an angel, who hath brought us out of Egypt. Lo, we are now in the city of Cades, which is in the uttermost of thy borders,
17 Déjanos, por favor, cruzar por tu tierra. No pasaremos por campo ni por viñedo, ni beberemos agua de pozo. Seguiremos el camino real, sin torcer ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda, hasta que crucemos otra vez tus fronteras».	17 And we beseech thee that we may have leave to pass through thy country. We will not go through the fields, nor through the vineyards, we will not drink the waters of thy wells, but we will go by the common highway, neither turning aside to the right hand, nor to the left, till we are past thy borders.
18 El rey de Edón le respondió: «No pasarás por mi tierra. Si lo haces, saldré a tu encuentro espada en mano».	18 And Edom answered them: Thou shalt not pass by me: if thou dost I will come out armed against thee.
19 Insistieron los hijos de Israel: «Seguiremos por la calzada y, si bebemos agua tuya, yo y mis rebaños, pagaremos su precio. No hay problema en pasar a pie».	19 And the children of Israel said: We will go by the beaten way: and if we and our cattle drink of thy waters, we will give thee what is just: there shall be no difficulty in the price, only let us pass speedily.
20 Respondió él: «No pasarás». Y salió Edón a su encuentro con mucha gente y un gran despliegue de fuerzas.	20 But he answered: Thou shalt not pass. And immediately he came forth to meet them with an infinite multitude, and a strong hand,
21 Y como Edón negó el paso a Israel por su territorio, ellos dieron un rodeo.	21 Neither would he condescend to their desire to grant them passage through his borders. Wherefore Israel turned another way from him.
22 Toda la comunidad de Israel partió de Cadés y llegó a Hor de la Montaña.	22 And when they had removed the camp from Cades, they came to mount Her, which is in the borders of the land of Edom:
23 Y dijo el Señor a Moisés y a Aarón en Hor de la Montaña, en la frontera de la tierra de Edón:	23 Where the Lord spoke to Moses:
24 «Que se reúna Aarón con los suyos, porque no debe entrar en la tierra que voy a dar a los hijos de Israel, porque os rebelasteis contra mi voluntad en la fuente de Meribá.	24 Let Aaron, saith he, go to his people: for he shall not go into the land which I have given the children of Israel, because he was incredulous to my words, at the waters of contradiction.
25 Toma contigo a Aarón y a su hijo Eleazar y sube con ellos al monte Hor.	25 Take Aaron and his son with him, and bring them up into mount Hor:
26 Quítale los ornamentos a Aarón y reviste con ellos a su hijo Eleazar. Entonces Aarón se reunirá con los suyos: allí morirá».	26 And when thou hast stripped the father of his vesture, thou shalt vest therewith Eleazar his son: Aaron shall be gathered to his people, and die there.
27 Moisés cumplió lo que le había mandado el Señor. Subieron a Hor de la Montaña a la vista de toda la comunidad.	27 Moses did as the Lord had commanded: and they went up into mount Hor before all the multitude.
28 Moisés quitó a Aarón los ornamentos y se los puso a su hijo Eleazar. Y murió allí Aarón, en la cumbre del monte. Moisés y Eleazar bajaron del monte.	28 And when he had stripped Aaron of his vestments, he vested Eleazar his son with them.
29 Toda la comunidad se dio cuenta de que había fallecido Aarón y toda la casa de Israel lloró a Aarón durante treinta días.	29 And Aaron being dead in the top of the mountain, he came down with Eleazar.
	30 And all the multitude seeing that Aaron was dead, mourned for him thirty days throughout all their families.
