| 5 En efecto, ustedes han sido colmados en él con toda clase de riquezas, las de la palabra y las del conocimiento, | 5 that in every way you were enriched in him with all speech and all knowledge-- |

| 14 Felizmente yo no he bautizado a ninguno de ustedes, excepto a Crispo y a Gayo. | 14 I am thankful that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius; |
| 15 Así nadie puede decir que ha sido bautizado en mi nombre. | 15 lest any one should say that you were baptized in my name. |
| 16 Sí, también he bautizado a la familia de Estéfanas, pero no recuerdo haber bautizado a nadie más. | 16 (I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized any one else.) |
| 17 Porque Cristo no me envió a bautizar, sino a anunciar la Buena Noticia, y esto sin recurrir a la elocuencia humana, para que la cruz de Cristo no pierda su eficacia. | 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. |
| 18 El mensaje de la cruz es una locura para los que se pierden, pero para los que se salvan –para nosotros– es fuerza de Dios. | 18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. |
| 19 Porque está escrito: "Destruiré la sabiduría de los sabios y rechazaré la ciencia de los inteligentes". | 19 For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the cleverness of the clever I will thwart." |
| 20 ¿Dónde está el sabio? ¿Dónde el hombre culto? ¿Dónde el razonador sutil de este mundo? ¿Acaso Dios no ha demostrado que la sabiduría del mundo es una necedad? | 20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? |
| 21 En efecto, ya que el mundo, con su sabiduría, no reconoció a Dios en las obras que manifiestan su sabiduría, Dios quiso salvar a los que creen por la locura de la predicación. | 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. |
| 22 Mientras los judíos piden milagros y los griegos van en busca de sabiduría, | 22 For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, |
| 23 nosotros, en cambio, predicamos a un Cristo crucificado, escándalo para los judíos y locura para los paganos, | 23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, |
| 24 pero fuerza y sabiduría de Dios para los que han sido llamados, tanto judíos como griegos. | 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. |
| 25 Porque la locura de Dios es más sabia que la sabiduría de los hombres, y la debilidad de Dios es más fuerte que la fortaleza de los hombres. | 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. |
| 26 Hermanos, tengan en cuenta quiénes son los que han sido llamados: no hay entre ustedes muchos sabios, hablando humanamente, ni son muchos los poderosos ni los nobles. | 26 For consider your call, brethren; not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth; |
| 27 Al contrario, Dios eligió lo que el mundo tiene por necio, para confundir a los sabios; lo que el mundo tiene por débil, para confundir a los fuertes; | 27 but God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong, |
| 28 lo que es vil y despreciable y lo que no vale nada, para aniquilar a lo que vale. | 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, |
| 29 Así, nadie podrá gloriarse delante de Dios. | 29 so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. |
| 30 Por él, ustedes están unidos a Cristo Jesús, que por disposición de Dios, se convirtió para nosotros en sabiduría y justicia, en santificación y redención, | 30 He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, whom God made our wisdom, our righteousness and sanctification and redemption; |
| 31 a fin de que, como está escrito: "El que se gloría, que se gloríe en el Señor". | 31 therefore, as it is written, "Let him who boasts, boast of the Lord." |
