SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Disse-vos essas coisas para vos preservar de alguma queda.	1 I have told you al this so that you may not fal away.
2 Expulsar-vos-ão das sinagogas, e virá a hora em que todo aquele que vos tirar a vida julgará prestar culto a Deus.	2 They wil expel you from the synagogues, and indeed the time is coming when anyone who kills youwil think he is doing a holy service to God.
3 Procederão deste modo porque não conheceram o Pai, nem a mim.	3 They wil do these things because they have never known either the Father or me.
4 Disse-vos, porém, essas palavras para que, quando chegar a hora, vos lembreis de que vo-lo anunciei. E não vo-las disse desde o princípio, porque estava convosco.	4 But I have told you all this, so that when the time for it comes you may remember that I told you. I didnot tell you this from the beginning, because I was with you;
5 Agora vou para aquele que me enviou, e ninguém de vós me pergunta: Para onde vais?	5 but now I am going to the one who sent me. Not one of you asks, 'Where are you going?'
6 Mas porque vos falei assim, a tristeza encheu o vosso coração.	6 Yet you are sad at heart because I have told you this.
7 Entretanto, digo-vos a verdade: convém a vós que eu vá! Porque, se eu não for, o Paráclito não virá a vós; mas se eu for, vo-lo enviarei.	7 Stil , I am telling you the truth: it is for your own good that I am going, because unless I go, theParaclete wil not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
8 E, quando ele vier, convencerá o mundo a respeito do pecado, da justiça e do juízo.	8 And when he comes, he wil show the world how wrong it was, about sin, and about who was in theright, and about judgement:
9 Convencerá o mundo a respeito do pecado, que consiste em não crer em mim.	9 about sin: in that they refuse to believe in me;
10 Ele o convencerá a respeito da justiça, porque eu me vou para junto do meu Pai e vós já não me vereis;	10 about who was in the right: in that I am going to the Father and you will see me no more;
11 ele o convencerá a respeito do juízo, que consiste em que o príncipe deste mundo já está julgado e condenado.	11 about judgement: in that the prince of this world is already condemned.
12 Muitas coisas ainda tenho a dizer-vos, mas não as podeis suportar agora.	12 I still have many things to say to you but they would be too much for you to bear now.
13 Quando vier o Paráclito, o Espírito da Verdade, ensinar-vos-á toda a verdade, porque não falará por si mesmo, mas dirá o que ouvir, e anunciar-vos-á as coisas que virão.	13 However, when the Spirit of truth comes he will lead you to the complete truth, since he wil not bespeaking of his own accord, but wil say only what he has been told; and he wil reveal to you the things to come.
14 Ele me glorificará, porque receberá do que é meu, e vo-lo anunciará.	14 He wil glorify me, since al he reveals to you wil be taken from what is mine.
15 Tudo o que o Pai possui é meu. Por isso, disse: Há de receber do que é meu, e vo-lo anunciará.	15 Everything the Father has is mine; that is why I said: all he reveals to you wil be taken from what ismine.
16 Ainda um pouco de tempo, e já me não vereis; e depois mais um pouco de tempo, e me tornareis a ver, porque vou para junto do Pai.	16 In a short time you will no longer see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again.
17 Nisso alguns dos seus discípulos perguntavam uns aos outros: Que é isso que ele nos diz: Ainda um pouco de tempo, e não me vereis; e depois mais um pouco de tempo, e me tornareis a ver? E que significa também: Eu vou para o Pai?	17 Then some of his disciples said to one another, 'What does he mean, "In a short time you wil nolonger see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again," and, "I am going to the Father"?
18 Diziam então: Que significa este pouco de tempo de que fala? Não sabemos o que ele quer dizer.	18 What is this "short time"? We don't know what he means.'
19 Jesus notou que lho queriam perguntar e disse-lhes: Perguntais uns aos outros acerca do que eu disse: Ainda um pouco de tempo, e não me vereis; e depois mais um pouco de tempo, e me tornareis a ver.	19 Jesus knew that they wanted to question him, so he said, 'You are asking one another what I meantby saying, "In a short time you wil no longer see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again."
20 Em verdade, em verdade vos digo: haveis de lamentar e chorar, mas o mundo se há de alegrar. E haveis de estar tristes, mas a vossa tristeza se há de transformar em alegria.	20 'In al truth I tell you, you wil be weeping and wailing while the world wil rejoice; you will be sorrowful,but your sorrow wil turn to joy.
21 Quando a mulher está para dar à luz, sofre porque veio a sua hora. Mas, depois que deu à luz a criança, já não se lembra da aflição, por causa da alegria que sente de haver nascido um homem no mundo.	21 A woman in childbirth suffers, because her time has come; but when she has given birth to the childshe forgets the suffering in her joy that a human being has been born into the world.
22 Assim também vós: sem dúvida, agora estais tristes, mas hei de ver-vos outra vez, e o vosso coração se alegrará e ninguém vos tirará a vossa alegria.	22 So it is with you: you are sad now, but I shal see you again, and your hearts wil be ful of joy, andthat joy no one shal take from you.
23 Naquele dia não me perguntareis mais coisa alguma. Em verdade, em verdade vos digo: o que pedirdes ao Pai em meu nome, ele vo-lo dará.	23 When that day comes, you will not ask me any questions. In all truth I tel you, anything you ask fromthe Father he wil grant in my name.
24 Até agora não pedistes nada em meu nome. Pedi e recebereis, para que a vossa alegria seja perfeita.	24 Until now you have not asked anything in my name. Ask and you wil receive, and so your joy wil becomplete.
25 Disse-vos essas coisas em termos figurados e obscuros. Vem a hora em que já não vos falarei por meio de comparações e parábolas, mas vos falarei abertamente a respeito do Pai.	25 I have been tel ing you these things in veiled language. The hour is coming when I shall no longerspeak to you in veiled language but tell you about the Father in plain words.
26 Naquele dia pedireis em meu nome, e já não digo que rogarei ao Pai por vós.	26 When that day comes you wil ask in my name; and I do not say that I shal pray to the Father for you,
27 Pois o mesmo Pai vos ama, porque vós me amastes e crestes que saí de Deus.	27 because the Father himself loves you for loving me, and believing that I came from God.
28 Saí do Pai e vim ao mundo. Agora deixo o mundo e volto para junto do Pai.	28 I came from the Father and have come into the world and now I am leaving the world to go to theFather.'
29 Disseram-lhe os seus discípulos: Eis que agora falas claramente e a tua linguagem já não é figurada e obscura.	29 His disciples said, 'Now you are speaking plainly and not using veiled language.
30 Agora sabemos que conheces todas as coisas e que não necessitas que alguém te pergunte. Por isso, cremos que saíste de Deus.	30 Now we see that you know everything and need not wait for questions to be put into words; becauseof this we believe that you came from God.'
31 Jesus replicou-lhes: Credes agora!...	31 Jesus answered them: Do you believe at last?
32 Eis que vem a hora, e ela já veio, em que sereis espalhados, cada um para o seu lado, e me deixareis sozinho. Mas não estou só, porque o Pai está comigo.	32 Listen; the time wil come -- indeed it has come already -- when you are going to be scattered, eachgoing his own way and leaving me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
33 Referi-vos essas coisas para que tenhais a paz em mim. No mundo haveis de ter aflições. Coragem! Eu venci o mundo.	33 I have told you al this so that you may find peace in me. In the world you wil have hardship, but becourageous: I have conquered the world.
