Proverbi 17

LA SACRA BIBBIA	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 E' meglio una crosta di pan secco e la tranquillità che una casa ricolma di sacrifici di discordia.	1 A dry morsel with gladness is better than a house full of sacrifices along with conflict.
2 Il servo intelligente sta sopra un figlio snaturato e insieme ai suoi fratelli divide i suoi diritti.	2 A wise servant shall rule over foolish sons, and he will divide the inheritance among brothers.
3 Il crogiolo è per l'argento e il forno è per l'oro; ma è il Signore che scruta i cuori.	3 Just as silver is tested by fire, and gold is tested in the furnace, so also does the Lord test hearts.
4 Il malevolo presta attenzione a labbra inique; il bugiardo presta l'orecchio a lingua malevola.	4 The evil obey an unjust tongue. And the false are submissive to lying lips.
5 Chi deride il povero oltraggia il Creatore; chi gode dell'infelice non resterà impunito.	5 Whoever despises the poor rebukes his Maker. And whoever rejoices in the ruin of another will not go unpunished.
6 Corona degli anziani i loro nipotini; onore dei figlioli sono i loro padri.	6 Sons of sons are the crown of old age. And the glory of sons is their fathers.
7 Allo stolto non si addice un parlare onesto; meno ancora a un onesto una lingua menzognera.	7 Well-chosen words are not fitting for the foolish, nor are lying lips fitting for a leader.
8 Pietra preziosa è un dono per chi l'ha; dovunque egli si volga ottiene tutto.	8 The expectation of those who stand ready is a most pleasing jewel. Whichever way he turns himself, he understands prudently.
9 Chi nasconde una colpa si procura l'amicizia; ma chi torna sui fatti si priva di un amico.	9 Whoever conceals an offense seeks friendships. Whoever repeats the words of another separates allies.
10 Fa più male un rimprovero all'uomo intelligente che cento colpi all'uomo senza senno.	10 A correction benefits more with a wise man, than a hundred stripes with a fool.
11 Solo di ribellioni va in cerca chi è malvagio; ma un messaggio crudele gli vien mandato contro.	11 The evil one continually seeks conflicts. But a cruel Angel shall be sent against him.
12 Meglio è incontrare un'orsa a cui han rapito i cuccioli che uno stolto nella sua stoltezza.	12 It is more expedient to meet a bear robbed of her young, than the foolish trusting in his own folly.
13 Uno rende male per bene: la disgrazia mai si allontanerà dalla sua casa.	13 Whoever repays evil for good, evil shall not withdraw from his house.
14 L'inizio d'una rissa è come l'acqua che straripa: prima che la rissa scoppi, fuggi via.	14 Whoever releases the water is the head of the conflict. And just before he suffers contempt, he abandons judgment.
15 Giustificare l'empio e accusare il giusto: il Signore detesta tutt'e due le cose.	15 Those who justify the impious, and those who condemn the just, both are abominable with God.
16 Perché il denaro in mano all'insensato? Per comprare sapienza? Ma non ne ha l'animo!	16 What does it profit the foolish to have riches, when he is not able to buy wisdom? Whoever makes his house high seeks ruin. And whoever shuns learning shall fall into evils.
17 L'amico ama in ogni circostanza; è un fratello nell'avversità.	17 Whoever is a friend loves at all times. And a brother is proved by distress.
18 Uomo privo di senno è chi s'impegna, chi si fa garante per un altro.	18 A foolish man will clap his hands, when he makes a pledge for his friend.
19 Ama una ferita chi ama la contesa; chi innalza la sua porta cerca la rovina.	19 Whoever dwells on discord loves disputes. And whoever exalts his door seeks ruin.
20 Un cuore perverso mai troverà fortuna; chi ha una lingua falsa cadrà nella sventura.	20 Whoever is of a perverse heart shall not find good. And whoever turns his tongue shall fall into evil.
21 Chi genera uno stolto lo fa per suo malanno, né si rallegrerà il padre di uno stolto.	21 A foolish one is born into his own disgrace. But his father will not rejoice in one who is senseless.
22 Un cuore contento è un buon rimedio, uno spirito abbattuto inaridisce le ossa.	22 A joyful soul makes a lifetime flourish. A gloomy spirit dries out the bones.
23 L'empio accetta un dono di nascosto per deviar le vie della giustizia.	23 The impious receives gifts from the bosom, so that he may pervert the paths of judgment.
24 Lo sguardo dell'uomo intelligente è fisso alla sapienza; gli occhi dello stolto vanno ai confini della terra.	24 Prudence shines from the face of the wise. The eyes of the foolish are on the ends of the earth.
25 Tristezza per suo padre è un figlio stolto, amarezza per chi l'ha generato.	25 A foolish son is the anger of the father and the grief of the mother who conceived him.
26 Punire l'uomo giusto non è bene, colpire le persone incensurate è contro l'equità.	26 It is not good to inflict damage on the just, nor to strike the leader who judges uprightly.
27 Chi modera le sue parole mostra la sua scienza e chi ha sangue freddo è un uomo intelligente.	27 Whoever moderates his words is learned and prudent. And a man of learning has a precious spirit.
28 Anche lo stolto, se tace, è reputato saggio; chi chiude le sue labbra è un uomo intelligente.	28 If he would remain silent, even the foolish would be considered wise, and if he closes his lips, intelligent.
