1 In those days the Philistines gathered their forces for war, to fight against Israel. And Achish said to David, "Understand that you and your men are to go out with me in the army."	1 In jenen Tagen zogen die Philister ihre Heere zusammen, um gegen Israel zum Kampf zu ziehen. Da sprach Achisch zu David: "Du wirst wissen, daß du und deine Leute in meinem Heere auszuziehen haben."
2 David said to Achish, "Very well, you shall know what your servant can do." And Achish said to David, "Very well, I will make you my bodyguard for life."	2 David antwortete Achisch: "Gut, auch du wirst wissen, was dein Knecht leisten kann." Achisch sprach zu David: "Dafür mache ich dich zu meinem Leibwächter für immer."
3 Now Samuel had died, and all Israel had mourned for him and buried him in Ramah, his own city. And Saul had put the mediums and the wizards out of the land.	3 Samuel war tot. Gesamtisrael hatte ihm die Totenklage gehalten und ihn zu Rama, seiner Stadt, begraben. Saul aber hatte die Totenbeschwörer und Wahrsager aus dem Lande verbannt.
4 The Philistines assembled, and came and encamped at Shunem; and Saul gathered all Israel, and they encamped at Gilboa.	4 Nun sammelten sich die Philister, marschierten und lagerten bei Sunem. Auch Saul bot Gesamtisrael auf, und sie lagerten auf Gilboa.
5 When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly.	5 Saul ließ seine Augen über das Philisterlager schweifen, geriet in Furcht, und sein Herz verzagte sehr.
6 And when Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD did not answer him, either by dreams, or by Urim, or by prophets.	6 Da befragte Saul den Herrn; doch der Herr antwortete ihm nicht, weder durch Träume, noch durch die heiligen Lose, noch durch Propheten.
7 Then Saul said to his servants, "Seek out for me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her." And his servants said to him, "Behold, there is a medium at Endor."	7 Daher befahl Saul seinen Knechten: "Sucht mir eine Frau, eine Totenbeschwörerin! Zu ihr will ich gehen und sie befragen." Seine Knechte sagten ihm: "In Endor wohnt eine Frau, die Tote beschwören kann."
8 So Saul disguised himself and put on other garments, and went, he and two men with him; and they came to the woman by night. And he said, "Divine for me by a spirit, and bring up for me whomever I shall name to you."	8 Saul machte sich unkenntlich, verkleidete sich und ging mit zwei Begleitern hin. Sie kamen nachts zu der Frau, und er sprach: "Wahrsage mir doch durch einen Totengeist, und führe mir den herauf, den ich dir bezeichnen werde!"
9 The woman said to him, "Surely you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off the mediums and the wizards from the land. Why then are you laying a snare for my life to bring about my death?"	9 Doch die Frau antwortete ihm: "Du weißt es ja, was Saul getan hat: daß er die Totenbeschwörer und die Wahrsager aus dem Lande verbannt hat. Warum stellst du mir eine Falle, um mich zu töten?"
10 But Saul swore to her by the LORD, "As the LORD lives, no punishment shall come upon you for this thing."	10 Da leistete ihr Saul beim Herrn einen Eid: "So wahr der Herr lebt, es soll dich in dieser Angelegenheit keine Schuld treffen!"
11 Then the woman said, "Whom shall I bring up for you?" He said, "Bring up Samuel for me."	11 Da sprach die Frau: "Wen soll ich dir heraufrufen?" Er antwortete: "Hole mir Samuel herauf!"
12 When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out with a loud voice; and the woman said to Saul, "Why have you deceived me? You are Saul."	12 Als die Frau den Samuel erblickte, schrie sie laut auf und sprach zu Saul: "Warum hast du mich betrogen? Du selbst bist Saul!"
13 The king said to her, "Have no fear; what do you see?" And the woman said to Saul, "I see a god coming up out of the earth."	13 Der König entgegnete ihr: "Fürchte dich nicht, was siehst du denn?" Die Frau sprach zu Saul: "Ein gottähnliches Wesen sehe ich aus der Erde aufsteigen."
14 He said to her, "What is his appearance?" And she said, "An old man is coming up; and he is wrapped in a robe." And Saul knew that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground, and did obeisance.	14 Er fragte sie: "Wie schaut es aus?" Sie sagte: "Ein alter Mann steigt empor, der in einen Mantel gehüllt ist." Nun erkannte Saul, daß es Samuel war. Er warf sich mit dem Antlitz zur Erde und huldigte.
15 Then Samuel said to Saul, "Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?" Saul answered, "I am in great distress; for the Philistines are warring against me, and God has turned away from me and answers me no more, either by prophets or by dreams; therefore I have summoned you to tell me what I shall do."	15 Samuel sprach zu Saul: "Warum hast du mich aus meiner Ruhe gestört und mich heraufkommen lassen?" Saul antwortete: "In großer Not bin ich. Die Philister kämpfen gegen mich. Gott wich von mir; er gibt mir keine Antwort mehr, weder durch die Propheten, noch durch Träume. Daher habe ich dich gerufen, um von dir belehrt zu werden, was ich tun soll."
16 And Samuel said, "Why then do you ask me, since the LORD has turned from you and become your enemy?	16 Samuel entgegnete: "Warum fragst du mich, da der Herr doch von dir gewichen und dein Widersacher geworden ist?
17 The LORD has done to you as he spoke by me; for the LORD has torn the kingdom out of your hand, and given it to your neighbor, David.	17 Der Herr tat an dir, wie er durch mich verheißen hat. Er hat das Königtum aus deiner Hand gerissen und es deinem Volksgenossen, dem David, gegeben.
18 Because you did not obey the voice of the LORD, and did not carry out his fierce wrath against Amalek, therefore the LORD has done this thing to you this day.	18 Weil du auf die Stimme des Herrn nicht gehört und seinen brennenden Zorn an Amalek nicht vollstreckt hast, darum hat dir der Herr heute dieses angetan.
19 Moreover the LORD will give Israel also with you into the hand of the Philistines; and tomorrow you and your sons shall be with me; the LORD will give the army of Israel also into the hand of the Philistines."	19 Der Herr wird auch ganz Israel und dich zugleich in die Hand der Philister geben. Morgen wirst du mit deinen Söhnen bei mir sein. Auch das Heerlager Israels wird der Herr der Gewalt der Philister überantworten."
20 Then Saul fell at once full length upon the ground, filled with fear because of the words of Samuel; and there was no strength in him, for he had eaten nothing all day and all night.	20 Sogleich stürzte Saul seiner ganzen Länge nach zu Boden und geriet in große Angst wegen der Worte Samuels. Es war auch keine Kraft mehr in ihm; denn er hatte den ganzen Tag und die ganze Nacht keine Nahrung zu sich genommen.
21 And the woman came to Saul, and when she saw that he was terrified, she said to him, "Behold, your handmaid has hearkened to you; I have taken my life in my hand, and have hearkened to what you have said to me.	21 Als die Frau zu Saul kam und bemerkte, daß er ganz gebrochen war, sprach sie zu ihm: "Schau, deine Magd hat auf dich gehört. Ich habe mein Leben aufs Spiel gesetzt und deine Anordnung befolgt, die du mir gabst.
22 Now therefore, you also hearken to your handmaid; let me set a morsel of bread before you; and eat, that you may have strength when you go on your way."	22 Jetzt höre auch du auf deine Magd! Ich setze dir ein wenig Brot vor; nimm es zu dir, dann kommst du wieder zu Kräften und kannst deines Weges weitergehen!"
23 He refused, and said, "I will not eat." But his servants, together with the woman, urged him; and he hearkened to their words. So he arose from the earth, and sat upon the bed.	23 Er aber weigerte sich und erklärte, er wolle nicht essen. Seine Knechte aber und die Frau nötigten ihn, so daß er ihnen nachgab. Er stand vom Boden auf und setzte sich auf das Ruhelager.
24 Now the woman had a fatted calf in the house, and she quickly killed it, and she took flour, and kneaded it and baked unleavened bread of it,	24 Die Frau hatte ein Mastkalb im Hause. Sie schlachtete es in aller Eile, nahm Mehl, knetete es und buk daraus ungesäuerte Kuchen.
25 and she put it before Saul and his servants; and they ate. Then they rose and went away that night.	25 Das setzte sie Saul und seinen Knechten vor. Diese aßen, standen dann auf und zogen noch in jener Nacht weiter.
