Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition Sacra Bibbia Garofalo
Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures say, as with a voice of thunder, "Come!"1 E vidi: quando l’agnello aprì il primo dei sette sigilli, udii il primo dei quattro viventi che diceva come con voce di tuono: «Vieni».
And I saw, and behold, a white horse, and its rider had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.2 E vidi: ed ecco un cavallo bianco e il cavaliere aveva un’arco, e gli fu data una corona, e uscì vincendo e per vincere ancora.
When he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, "Come!"3 E quando aprì il secondo sigillo udii il secondo vivente che diceva: «Vieni!»
And out came another horse, bright red; its rider was permitted to take peace from the earth, so that men should slay one another; and he was given a great sword.4 E uscì un altro cavallo, rosso fuoco, e al cavaliere fu dato di togliere la pace dalla terra, affinché si sgozzino a vicenda; e gli fu data una spada grande.
When he opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come!" And I saw, and behold, a black horse, and its rider had a balance in his hand;5 E quando aprì il terzo sigillo, udii il terzo vivente che diceva: «Vieni!'». E’ vidi: ed ecco un cavallo nero, e il cavaliere aveva una bilancia nella mano.
and I heard what seemed to be a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, "A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; but do not harm oil and wine!"6 E udii come una voce in mezzo ai quattro viventi che diceva: «Un litro di frumento a un denaro, e tre litri di orzo a un denaro! E non sprecare l’olio e il vino!»
When he opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, "Come!"7 E quando aprì il quarto sigillo, udii la voce del quarto vivente che diceva: «Vieni!»
And I saw, and behold, a pale horse, and its rider's name was Death, and Hades followed him; and they were given power over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by wild beasts of the earth.8 E vidi: ed ecco un cavallo verdastro, e il cavaliere ha nome «la Morte»; e l’ade lo seguiva. E fu dato ad essi potere sulla quarta parte della terra, per uccidere di spada, di fame, di peste, e mediante le fiere della terra.
When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the witness they had borne;9 E quando aprì il quinto sigillo, vidi sotto l’altare le anime degli sgozzati a causa della parola di Dio e della testimonianza che avevano.
they cried out with a loud voice, "O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before thou wilt judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell upon the earth?"10 E gridarono a gran voce dicendo: «Fino a quando; o padrone santo e verace, non compi il giudizio e non trai vendetta del nostro sangue dagli abitanti della terra?»
Then they were each given a white robe and told to rest a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren should be complete, who were to be killed as they themselves had been.11 E fu data ad ognuno di essi una veste bianca, e fu detto loro di indugiare ancora poco tempo, finché non giunga a pienezza anche il numero di quanti, con servi loro e fratelli loro, debbono essere uccisi come loro.
When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became like blood,12 E vidi: quando aprì il sesto sigillo; avvenne un terremoto grande e il sole divenne nero come un sacco di crine e la luna intera divenne come sangue
and the stars of the sky fell to the earth as the fig tree sheds its winter fruit when shaken by a gale;13 e le stelle del cielo caddero sulla terra così come un fico, scosso da un gran vento, getta i suoi frutti immaturi;
the sky vanished like a scroll that is rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.14 e il cielo si ritrasse come un libro che si ravvolge, e ogni monte e isola furono rimossi dai loro luoghi;
Then the kings of the earth and the great men and the generals and the rich and the strong, and every one, slave and free, hid in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains,15 e i re della terra e i maggiorenti e i capi militari e i ricchi e i forti ed ogni uomo, schiavo e libero, si nascosero nelle caverne e nelle rupi dei monti,
calling to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb;16 e dissero ai monti e alle rupi: Cadete su di noi e nascondeteci dal cospetto di colui che siede sul trono e dall’ira dell’agnello,
for the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand before it?"17 poiché è venuto il giorno grande della loro ira, e chi può reggersi?»
