1 Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to test Israel by them, that is, all in Israel who had no experience of any war in Canaan;	1 Estas son las gentes que dejó el Señor, para probar con ellas a los israelitas que no habían conocido ninguna de las guerras de Canaán
2 it was only that the generations of the people of Israel might know war, that he might teach war to such at least as had not known it before.	2 e instruirlos y adiestrarlos en la guerra:
3 These are the nations: the five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites who dwelt on Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal-hermon as far as the entrance of Hamath.	3 cinco príncipes filisteos, y todos los cananeos, sidonios y heveos, que habitaban la montaña del Líbano, desde el monte Baal Hermón a Lebo Jamat.
4 They were for the testing of Israel, to know whether Israel would obey the commandments of the LORD, which he commanded their fathers by Moses.	4 Esto ocurrió así para poner a prueba a Israel y saber si obedecían los mandatos que el Señor había prescrito a sus padres por medio de Moisés.
5 So the people of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites;	5 Los hijos de Israel habitaron en medio de los cananeos, de los hititas, de los amorreos, de los perizitas, de los heveos y de los jebuseos.
6 and they took their daughters to themselves for wives, and their own daughters they gave to their sons; and they served their gods.	6 Tomaron a sus hijas como esposas, y ellos entregaron sus hijas a los hijos de ellos y sirvieron a sus dioses.
7 And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, forgetting the LORD their God, and serving the Baals and the Asheroth.	7 Los hijos de Israel obraron mal a los ojos del Señor, olvidando al Señor, su Dios, y sirviendo a los baales y a las aseras.
8 Therefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia; and the people of Israel served Cushan-rishathaim eight years.	8 La ira del Señor se encendió contra Israel, y los vendió a Cusán Risatain, rey de Arán Naharáin. Los hijos de Israel sirvieron ocho años a Cusán Risatain.
9 But when the people of Israel cried to the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer for the people of Israel, who delivered them, Othni-el the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.	9 Entonces clamaron al Señor. Y el Señor les suscitó un salvador, que los salvara, es decir, a Otoniel, hijo de Quenaz, el hermano menor de Caleb.
10 The Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel; he went out to war, and the LORD gave Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed over Cushan-rishathaim.	10 Vino sobre él el espíritu del Señor y juzgó a Israel. Salió a la guerra y el Señor entregó en su mano a Cusán Risatain, rey de Arán, prevaleciendo su mano sobre Cusán Risatain.
11 So the land had rest forty years. Then Othni-el the son of Kenaz died.	11 El país estuvo en paz cuarenta años. Y murió Otoniel, hijo de Quenaz.
12 And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done what was evil in the sight of the LORD.	12 Los hijos de Israel volvieron a obrar mal a los ojos del Señor, y el Señor fortaleció a Eglón, rey de Moab, contra Israel, por cuanto habían obrado mal a sus ojos.
13 He gathered to himself the Ammonites and the Amalekites, and went and defeated Israel; and they took possession of the city of palms.	13 Eglón reunió junto a sí a los amonitas y amalecitas. Fue, derrotó a Israel y conquistaron la ciudad de las Palmeras.
14 And the people of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.	14 Los hijos de Israel estuvieron sometidos dieciocho años a Eglón, rey de Moab.
15 But when the people of Israel cried to the LORD, the LORD raised up for them a deliverer, Ehud, the son of Gera, the Benjaminite, a left-handed man. The people of Israel sent tribute by him to Eglon the king of Moab.	15 Pero los hijos de Israel clamaron al Señor y el Señor les suscitó un salvador: Ehud, hijo de Guerá, benjaminita, impedido de la mano derecha. Por su mano enviaron los hijos de Israel un tributo a Eglón, rey de Moab.
16 And Ehud made for himself a sword with two edges, a cubit in length; and he girded it on his right thigh under his clothes.	16 Ehud se había hecho un puñal de doble filo, de un palmo de largo, y se lo ciñó bajo su manto, sobre el muslo derecho.
17 And he presented the tribute to Eglon king of Moab. Now Eglon was a very fat man.	17 Presentó el tributo a Eglón, rey de Moab, que era un hombre muy obeso.
18 And when Ehud had finished presenting the tribute, he sent away the people that carried the tribute.	18 Cuando terminó de presentar el tributo, despidió a la gente que lo había llevado.
19 But he himself turned back at the sculptured stones near Gilgal, and said, "I have a secret message for you, O king." And he commanded, "Silence." And all his attendants went out from his presence.	19 Pero él se volvió desde los ídolos que hay junto a Guilgal, para decir: «¡Majestad!, tengo un mensaje secreto para ti». Eglón ordenó: «¡Silencio!». Y salieron de su lado todos cuantos se encontraban con él.
20 And Ehud came to him, as he was sitting alone in his cool roof chamber. And Ehud said, "I have a message from God for you." And he arose from his seat.	20 Ehud se acercó al rey, que estaba sentado en la habitación superior, reservada para que él tomara el fresco, y le dijo: «Tengo un mensaje de Dios para ti». El rey se levantó de su trono,
21 And Ehud reached with his left hand, took the sword from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly;	21 y Ehud alargó la mano izquierda, agarró el puñal del muslo derecho y se lo clavó en el vientre.
22 and the hilt also went in after the blade, and the fat closed over the blade, for he did not draw the sword out of his belly; and the dirt came out.	22 La empuñadura penetró tras la hoja, y se cerró la grasa sobre la hoja, pues no sacó el puñal del vientre. Ehud se deslizó luego por el agujero,
23 Then Ehud went out into the vestibule, and closed the doors of the roof chamber upon him, and locked them.	23 salió por el pórtico, cerró tras él las puertas de la habitación superior y echó el cerrojo.
24 When he had gone, the servants came; and when they saw that the doors of the roof chamber were locked, they thought, "He is only relieving himself in the closet of the cool chamber."	24 Cuando había salido, entraron los siervos y miraron: las puertas de la habitación superior tenían echado el cerrojo. Dijeron: «Seguro que está cubriéndose los pies en la habitación donde se toma el fresco».
25 And they waited till they were utterly at a loss; but when he still did not open the doors of the roof chamber, they took the key and opened them; and there lay their lord dead on the floor.	25 Aguardaron hasta quedar confusos, pues no abría las puertas de la habitación superior. Al fin cogieron la llave y abrieron: su señor yacía en el suelo, muerto.
26 Ehud escaped while they delayed, and passed beyond the sculptured stones, and escaped to Se-irah.	26 Ehud se había escapado, mientras ellos titubeaban. Atravesó los ídolos y huyó a Seirá.
27 When he arrived, he sounded the trumpet in the hill country of Ephraim; and the people of Israel went down with him from the hill country, having him at their head.	27 En cuanto llegó, tocó el cuerno en la montaña de Efraín. Todos los hijos de Israel bajaron de la montaña con él al frente.
28 And he said to them, "Follow after me; for the LORD has given your enemies the Moabites into your hand." So they went down after him, and seized the fords of the Jordan against the Moabites, and allowed not a man to pass over.	28 Les arengó: «Seguidme, pues el Señor ha entregado en vuestras manos a Moab, vuestro enemigo». Bajaron tras él y ocuparon los vados del Jordán pertenecientes a Moab, sin dejar cruzar a nadie.
29 And they killed at that time about ten thousand of the Moabites, all strong, able-bodied men; not a man escaped.	29 En aquella ocasión causaron diez mil bajas a Moab, todos hombres robustos y valientes, y no escapó ninguno.
30 So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest for eighty years.	30 Aquel día Moab quedó sometido bajo la mano de Israel y el país estuvo en paz ochenta años.
31 After him was Shamgar the son of Anath, who killed six hundred of the Philistines with an oxgoad; and he too delivered Israel.	31 A Ehud le sucedió Samgar, hijo de Anat. Mató a seiscientos filisteos con una aguijada de bueyes, salvando también a Israel.
