1 Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to test Israel by them, that is, all in Israel who had no experience of any war in Canaan;	1 Queste sono le genti che lasciò Iddio Signore, acciò che per loro ammaestrasse i figliuoli d'Israel (e castigasse) e ancora tutti coloro i quali non aveano conosciute le battaglie de' Cananei;
2 it was only that the generations of the people of Israel might know war, that he might teach war to such at least as had not known it before.	2 acciò che i loro figliuoli poi apparassero di combattere co' loro nemici, e d'avere l'usanza (e il modo) di combattere.
3 These are the nations: the five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites who dwelt on Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal-hermon as far as the entrance of Hamath.	3 In prima furono i cinque Satrapi (della gente) de' Filistei (cioè cinque priori) e tutti quanti i Cananei e Sidoni, e gli Evei i quali abitavano nel monte di Libano, del monte di Baal Ermon insino all' entrata di Emat.
4 They were for the testing of Israel, to know whether Israel would obey the commandments of the LORD, which he commanded their fathers by Moses.	4 E lasciogli, acciò che Israel si provasse in essi (e pigliasse esperienza con loro, e che vedessono bene) se loro udivano i comandamenti di Dio (e osservavano) i quali avea fatti e ordinati cogli padri loro per mano di Moisè (servo di Dio), o no.
5 So the people of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites;	5 E abitarono i figliuoli d' Israel nel mezzo dei Cananei e degli Etei e degli Amorrei e dei Ferezei ed Evei e degli Iebusei.
6 and they took their daughters to themselves for wives, and their own daughters they gave to their sons; and they served their gods.	6 E menarono per mogli le loro figliuole; e loro diedero le loro figliuole ai loro figliuoli e servirono ai loro Dii.
7 And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, forgetting the LORD their God, and serving the Baals and the Asheroth.	7 E feceno male nel cospetto di Dio, e sì si dimenticarono dello Dio loro, sérvendo (all' idolo) Baalim e (all' idolo) Astarot.
8 Therefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia; and the people of Israel served Cushan-rishathaim eight years.	8 E adirossi Iddio contro i figliuoli d' Israel, e si gli mise nelle mani (de' Cananei cioè) del re di Mesopotamia, che si chiama Cusan Rasataim (re di Mesopotamia), e sì gli servirono otto anni.
9 But when the people of Israel cried to the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer for the people of Israel, who delivered them, Othni-el the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.	9 E poi gridarono (e chiamarono) a Dio Signore; il quale (sì gli esaudi, e suscitò loro e) diede loro per salvatore Otoniel, figliuolo di Cenez, fratello minore di Caleb, e sì gli liberò di servitù.
10 The Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel; he went out to war, and the LORD gave Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed over Cushan-rishathaim.	10 E fue in lui lo Spirito di Dio Signore, e sì giudicò i figliuoli d' Israel; e uscì fuori alla battaglia, e diedegli Iddio nelle sue mani Cusan Rasatim re di Siria, e sì lo (macerò e) domò.
11 So the land had rest forty years. Then Othni-el the son of Kenaz died.	11 E riposossi la terra (de' figliuoli d' Israel in pace) XL anni; e poi sì morì Otoniel figliuolo di Cenez.
12 And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done what was evil in the sight of the LORD.	12 (E puosonsi in cuore e andarono oltre) e aggionsono pure a far male i figliuoli d' Israel (nel cospetto e) dinanzi a Dio Signore; il quale sì confortò contro a loro (e provocò) Eglon re di Moab; imperciò che loro aveano fatto male nel cospetto di Dio Signore.
13 He gathered to himself the Ammonites and the Amalekites, and went and defeated Israel; and they took possession of the city of palms.	13 E sì gli diede compagnia i figliuoli d' Ammon e d' Amalec; e sì andò e isconfisse (e uccise) Israel, e sì possedette la città delle palme.
14 And the people of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.	14 E servirono i figliuoli d' Israel Eglon, re di Moab, XVIII anni.
15 But when the people of Israel cried to the LORD, the LORD raised up for them a deliverer, Ehud, the son of Gera, the Benjaminite, a left-handed man. The people of Israel sent tribute by him to Eglon the king of Moab.	15 E poi chiamarono (e gridarono) a Dio; il quale (sì gli esaudì, e) suscitò loro e diede per salvatore (e giudice) il figliuolo (nobile e forte) di Gera, figliuolo di Iemini, il quale si chiamava Aod, il quale usava ciascuna mano per la destra, (cioè così era forte e libero della mano ritta come della manca, e della mano manca come della ritta). E per lui sì mandarono i figliuoli d'Israel (denari e) doni ad Eglon re di Moab.
16 And Ehud made for himself a sword with two edges, a cubit in length; and he girded it on his right thigh under his clothes.	16 Il quale si fece uno coltello a due tagli (e appuntatissimo), il quale sì avea nel mezzo una punta di lunghezza d' una spanna; e sì lo si cinse sotto la guarnaccia dal lato ritto.
17 And he presented the tribute to Eglon king of Moab. Now Eglon was a very fat man.	17 E portoe (e diede) questi denari a Eglon re (e molto e) troppo grasso (e abbondevole).
18 And when Ehud had finished presenting the tribute, he sent away the people that carried the tribute.	18 E avendoli dati Aod i doni (e i denari), andò diretto ai compagni i quali erano venuti con lui.
19 But he himself turned back at the sculptured stones near Gilgal, and said, "I have a secret message for you, O king." And he commanded, "Silence." And all his attendants went out from his presence.	19 E ritornato di Galgala, dov' erano gl' idoli, sì disse Aod al re: ora t' hoe io a dire una parola molto secreta. E quegli sì comandò che ogni uomo stesse cheto (e uscirono fuori); e usciti fuori tutti quanti coloro i quali gli stavano d'intorno,
20 And Ehud came to him, as he was sitting alone in his cool roof chamber. And Ehud said, "I have a message from God for you." And he arose from his seat.	20 sì entrò Aod; ma il re sedeva in su una sedia la quale era dove si cenava la state, e sì era solo; e disse Aod: io t'hoe a dire una parola da parte di Dio Signore. Il quale incontanente iscese giuso della sedia.
21 And Ehud reached with his left hand, took the sword from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly;	21 E sì istese Aod la sua mano manca, tolse questo coltello il quale avea dal lato ritto, e sì gli lo ficcò fortemente nel ventre,
22 and the hilt also went in after the blade, and the fat closed over the blade, for he did not draw the sword out of his belly; and the dirt came out.	22 intanto che insino alla manica e tutto il ferro gli entroe nel ventre, e nella grassezza (del ventre) sì si stringette (sì forte) che niente si vedea. E non trasse fuori il coltello, ma così come l'avea (percosso e) ferito, così lo lasciò nel corpo; e incontanente per lo luogo secreto della natura (cioè di sotto) inco minciò del corpo a gittare lo sterco (e il fastidio dentro).
23 Then Ehud went out into the vestibule, and closed the doors of the roof chamber upon him, and locked them.	23 E Aod sollecitamente chiudendo bene gli usci del luogo di cenacolo, con esso li chiavistelli,
24 When he had gone, the servants came; and when they saw that the doors of the roof chamber were locked, they thought, "He is only relieving himself in the closet of the cool chamber."	24 di dietro per la porta della casa sì uscì. Ed entrando dentro li servi del re, viddero serrate le porte (del luogo) dello cenacolo (dove erano), e dissono: forse che il re si purga il ventre dentro nel luogo dove dorme la state.
25 And they waited till they were utterly at a loss; but when he still did not open the doors of the roof chamber, they took the key and opened them; and there lay their lord dead on the floor.	25 E aspettando uno buono pezzo, tanto che se ne vergognavano, e veggendo che niuno venne ad aprire, tolsono le chiavi; e aprendo trovarono il loro signore, che istava in terra ed era morto.
26 Ehud escaped while they delayed, and passed beyond the sculptured stones, and escaped to Se-irah.	26 E turbandosi (e facendo rumore) tra loro, Aod in quel mezzo si fuggì; e passò oltre il luogo dove stavano gl' idoli, donde prima era passato; e venne in Seirat.
27 When he arrived, he sounded the trumpet in the hill country of Ephraim; and the people of Israel went down with him from the hill country, having him at their head.	27 E immantenente fece (sonare e) dare alle trombe su nel monte di Efraim; e vennero giuso con lui i figliuoli d' Israel, andando egli sempre dinanzi.
28 And he said to them, "Follow after me; for the LORD has given your enemies the Moabites into your hand." So they went down after him, and seized the fords of the Jordan against the Moabites, and allowed not a man to pass over.	28 Il quale sì disse loro: seguitàtemi, imperò che Iddio ha dato nelle nostre mani i nostri nemici, cioè (sono) i Moabiti. E andarono giuso dietro a lui, e prèsono tutti i passi del secco del (fiume) Giordano che riescono (e menano) in Moab, e non lasciarono passare persona niuna.
29 And they killed at that time about ten thousand of the Moabites, all strong, able-bodied men; not a man escaped.	29 Ma uccisono de' Moabiti, in quello tempo nel torno di dieci milia uomini, tutti quanti uomini robusti e forti; e niuno di loro non poteo iscampare.
30 So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest for eighty years.	30 E fue umiliato Moab in quello die dalla mano de' figliuoli d' Israel; e riposossi la terra in pace LXXX anni (da guerre).
31 After him was Shamgar the son of Anath, who killed six hundred of the Philistines with an oxgoad; and he too delivered Israel.	31 E morto Aod, si fue e venne dopo lui Samgar figliuolo di Anat, il quale percosse de' Filistei uomini cinquecento con uno gomero (di arare la terra); e in questo modo egli difese i figliuoli d' Israel.
