Judges 2

1 Now the angel of the LORD went up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, "I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you into the land which I swore to give to your fathers. I said, 'I will never break my covenant with you,	1 L'Ange de Yahvé monta de Gilgal à Béthel et il dit: "Je vous ai fait monter d'Egypte et je vous aiamenés dans ce pays que j'avais promis par serment à vos pères. J'avais dit: Je ne romprai jamais mon allianceavec vous.
2 and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars.' But you have not obeyed my command. What is this you have done?	2 De votre côté, vous ne conclurez point d'alliance avec les habitants de ce pays; mais vous renverserezleurs autels. Or vous n'avez pas écouté ma voix. Qu'avez-vous fait là?
3 So now I say, I will not drive them out before you; but they shall become adversaries." to you, and their gods shall be a snare to you."	3 Eh bien, je le dis: je ne chasserai point ces peuples devant vous. Ils seront pour vous des oppresseurset leurs dieux seront pour vous un piège."
4 When the angel of the LORD spoke these words to all the people of Israel, the people lifted up their voices and wept.	4 Lorsque l'Ange de Yahvé eut adressé ces paroles à tous les Israélites, le peuple se mit à crier et àpleurer.
5 And they called the name of that place Bochim; and they sacrificed there to the LORD.	5 Ils donnèrent à ce lieu le nom de Bokim et ils offrirent là des sacrifices à Yahvé.
6 When Joshua dismissed the people, the people of Israel went each to his inheritance to take possession of the land.	6 Alors Josué congédia le peuple et les Israélites se rendirent chacun dans son héritage pour occuper lepays.
7 And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work which the LORD had done for Israel.	7 Le peuple servit Yahvé pendant toute la vie de Josué et toute la vie des anciens qui survécurent àJosué et qui avaient connu toutes les grandes oeuvres que Yahvé avait opérées en faveur d'Israël.
8 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of one hundred and ten years.	8 Josué, fils de Nûn, serviteur de Yahvé, mourut à l'âge de 110 ans.
9 And they buried him within the bounds of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, north of the mountain of Gaash.	9 On l'ensevelit dans le domaine qu'il avait reçu en héritage à Timnat-Hérès, dans la montagned'Ephraïm, au nord du mont Gaash.
10 And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers; and there arose another generation after them, who did not know the LORD or the work which he had done for Israel.	10 Et quand cette génération à son tour fut réunie à ses pères, une autre génération lui succéda qui neconnaissait point Yahvé ni ce qu'il avait fait pour Israël.
11 And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the LORD and served the Baals;	11 Alors les enfants d'Israël firent ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahvé et ils servirent les Baals.
12 and they forsook the LORD, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt; they went after other gods, from among the gods of the peoples who were round about them, and bowed down to them; and they provoked the LORD to anger.	12 Ils délaissèrent Yahvé, le Dieu de leurs pères, qui les avait fait sortir du pays d'Egypte, et ils suivirentd'autres dieux parmi ceux des peuples d'alentour. Ils se prosternèrent devant eux, ils irritèrent Yahvé,
13 They forsook the LORD, and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth.	13 ils délaissèrent Yahvé pour servir le Baal et les Astartés.
14 So the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he gave them over to plunderers, who plundered them; and he sold them into the power of their enemies round about, so that they could no longer withstand their enemies.	14 Alors la colère de Yahvé s'enflamma contre Israël. Il les abandonna à des pillards qui lesdépouillèrent, il les livra aux ennemis qui les entouraient et ils ne purent plus tenir devant leurs ennemis.
15 Whenever they marched out, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had warned, and as the LORD had sworn to them; and they were in sore straits.	15 Dans toutes leurs expéditions la main de Yahvé intervenait contre eux pour leur faire du mal, commeYahvé le leur avait dit et comme Yahvé le leur avait juré. Leur détresse était extrême.
16 Then the LORD raised up judges, who saved them out of the power of those who plundered them.	16 sauvèrent de la main de ceux qui les pillaient.
17 And yet they did not listen to their judges; for they played the harlot after other gods and bowed down to them; they soon turned aside from the way in which their fathers had walked, who had obeyed the commandments of the LORD, and they did not do so.	17 Mais même leurs juges, ils ne les écoutaient pas, ils se prostituèrent à d'autres dieux, et ils seprosternèrent devant eux. Bien vite ils se sont détournés du chemin qu'avaient suivi leurs pères, dociles auxcommandements de Yahvé; ils ne les ont point imités.
18 Whenever the LORD raised up judges for them, the LORD was with the judge, and he saved them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for the LORD was moved to pity by their groaning because of those who afflicted and oppressed them.	18 Lorsque Yahvé leur suscitait des juges, Yahvé était avec le juge et il les sauvait de la main de leursennemis tant que vivait le juge, car Yahvé se laissait émouvoir par leurs gémissements devant leurs persécuteurset leurs oppresseurs.
19 But whenever the judge died, they turned back and behaved worse than their fathers, going after other gods, serving them and bowing down to them; they did not drop any of their practices or their stubborn ways.	19 Mais le juge mort, ils recommençaient à se pervertir encore plus que leurs pères. Ils suivaientd'autres dieux, les servaient et se prosternaient devant eux, ne renonçant en rien aux pratiques et à la conduiteendurcie de leurs pères.
20 So the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel; and he said, "Because this people have transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not obeyed my voice,	20 La colère de Yahvé s'enflamma alors contre Israël et il dit: "Puisque ce peuple a transgressé l'allianceque j'avais prescrite à ses pères et qu'il n'a pas écouté ma voix,
21 I will not henceforth drive out before them any of the nations that Joshua left when he died,	21 désormais je ne chasserai plus devant lui aucune des nations que Josué a laissé subsister quand il estmort",
22 that by them I may test Israel, whether they will take care to walk in the way of the LORD as their fathers did, or not."	22 afin de mettre par elles Israël à l'épreuve, pour voir s'il suivra ou non les chemins de Yahvé commeles ont suivi ses pères.
23 So the LORD left those nations, not driving them out at once, and he did not give them into the power of Joshua.	23 C'est pourquoi Yahvé a laissé subsister ces nations, il ne s'est point hâté de les chasser et ne les a paslivrées aux mains de Josué.
