Judges 2

1 Now the angel of the LORD went up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, "I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you into the land which I swore to give to your fathers. I said, 'I will never break my covenant with you,	1 Alors l'Ange du Seigneur vint de Galgala au lieu appelé le lieu des Pleurants, et Il dit: Je vous ai tirés de l'Egypte, Je vous ai fait entrer dans la terre que J'avais juré de donner à vos pères, et Je vous ai promis de garder à jamais l'alliance que J'avais faite avec vous;
2 and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars.' But you have not obeyed my command. What is this you have done?	2 mais à la condition que vous ne feriez point d'alliance avec les habitants du pays de Chanaan, et que vous renverseriez leurs autels; et cependant vous n'avez point voulu écouter Ma voix. Pourquoi avez-vous agi ainsi?
3 So now I say, I will not drive them out before you; but they shall become adversaries." to you, and their gods shall be a snare to you."	3 C'est pour cette raison que Je n'ai pas voulu exterminer ces peuples devant vous; en sorte que vous les ayez pour ennemis, et que leurs dieux vous soient un sujet de ruine.
4 When the angel of the LORD spoke these words to all the people of Israel, the people lifted up their voices and wept.	4 Tandis que l'Ange du Seigneur tenait ce langage à tous les enfants d'Israël, ils élevèrent leurs voix et se mirent à pleurer.
5 And they called the name of that place Bochim; and they sacrificed there to the LORD.	5 Et ce lieu fut appelé le lieu des Pleurants, ou le lieu des Larmes; et ils y immolèrent des victimes au Seigneur.
6 When Joshua dismissed the people, the people of Israel went each to his inheritance to take possession of the land.	6 Josué renvoya donc le peuple, et les enfants d'Israël s'en allèrent chacun dans son territoire pour s'en rendre maîtres,
7 And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work which the LORD had done for Israel.	7 et ils servirent le Seigneur tout le temps de la vie de Josué et des anciens qui vécurent longtemps après lui, et qui savaient toutes les oeuvres merveilleuses que le Seigneur avait faites en faveur d'Israël.
8 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died at the age of one hundred and ten years.	8 Cependant Josué, fils de Nun, serviteur du Seigneur, mourut âgé de cent dix ans,
9 And they buried him within the bounds of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, north of the mountain of Gaash.	9 et on l'ensevelit dans son héritage de Thamnathsaré, sur la montagne d'Ephraïm, vers le septentrion du mont Gaas.
10 And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers; and there arose another generation after them, who did not know the LORD or the work which he had done for Israel.	10 Toute cette ancienne génération ayant donc été réunie à ses pères, il s'en éleva une autre à sa place, qui ne connaissait point le Seigneur, ni les merveilles qu'Il avait faites en faveur d'Israël.
11 And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the LORD and served the Baals;	11 Alors les enfants d'Israël firent le mal en présence du Seigneur, et ils servirent les Baals.
12 and they forsook the LORD, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt; they went after other gods, from among the gods of the peoples who were round about them, and bowed down to them; and they provoked the LORD to anger.	12 Ils abandonnèrent le Seigneur, le Dieu de leurs pères, qui les avait tirés du pays d'Egypte; et ils servirent des dieux étrangers, les dieux des peuples qui demeuraient autour d'eux. Ils les adorèrent, et ils irritèrent la colère du Seigneur,
13 They forsook the LORD, and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth.	13 L'ayant quitté pour servir Baal et Astaroth.
14 So the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he gave them over to plunderers, who plundered them; and he sold them into the power of their enemies round about, so that they could no longer withstand their enemies.	14 Le Seigneur, étant donc irrité contre les Israélites, les livra entre les mains de pillards, qui les prirent et les vendirent aux nations ennemies qui demeuraient autour d'eux, et ils ne purent résister à leurs adversaires;
15 Whenever they marched out, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had warned, and as the LORD had sworn to them; and they were in sore straits.	15 mais de quelque côté qu'ils allassent, la main du Seigneur était sur eux, comme le Seigneur le leur avait dit avec serment; et ils tombèrent en des misères extrêmes.
16 Then the LORD raised up judges, who saved them out of the power of those who plundered them.	16 Dieu leur suscita ensuite des Juges, pour les délivrer des mains de ceux qui les opprimaient; mais ils ne voulurent pas même les écouter.
17 And yet they did not listen to their judges; for they played the harlot after other gods and bowed down to them; they soon turned aside from the way in which their fathers had walked, who had obeyed the commandments of the LORD, and they did not do so.	17 Ils se prostituèrent aux dieux étrangers en les adorant. Ils abandonnèrent bientôt la voie par laquelle leurs pères avaient marché, et, ayant entendu les ordonnances du Seigneur, ils firent tout le contraire.
18 Whenever the LORD raised up judges for them, the LORD was with the judge, and he saved them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for the LORD was moved to pity by their groaning because of those who afflicted and oppressed them.	18 Lorsque Dieu leur avait suscité des Juges, Il Se laissait toucher de pitié pendant que ces Juges vivaient; Il écoutait les gémissements des affligés, et les délivrait du massacre des pillards.
19 But whenever the judge died, they turned back and behaved worse than their fathers, going after other gods, serving them and bowing down to them; they did not drop any of their practices or their stubborn ways.	19 Mais après que le Juge était mort, ils retournaient aussitôt à leurs péchés, et faisaient des actions encore plus criminelles que leurs pères, en suivant des dieux étrangers, en les servant et les adorant. Ils ne quittaient point leurs malheureuses habitudes, ni la voie très dure par laquelle ils avaient coutume de marcher.
20 So the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel; and he said, "Because this people have transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not obeyed my voice,	20 La fureur du Seigneur s'alluma donc contre Israël, et Il dit: Puisque ce peuple a violé l'alliance que J'avais contractée avec ses pères, et qu'il a négligé avec mépris d'entendre Ma voix,
21 I will not henceforth drive out before them any of the nations that Joshua left when he died,	21 de Mon côté Je n'exterminerai point les nations que Josué a laissées lorsqu'il est mort;
22 that by them I may test Israel, whether they will take care to walk in the way of the LORD as their fathers did, or not."	22 afin que J'expérimente par là si les enfants d'Israël garderont la voie du Seigneur, et s'ils y marcheront comme leurs pères y ont marché.
23 So the LORD left those nations, not driving them out at once, and he did not give them into the power of Joshua.	23 C'est pour cette raison que le Seigneur laissa subsister toutes ces nations, qu'Il ne voulut pas les détruire immédiatement, et qu'Il ne les livra point entre les mains de Josué.
