1 After Abimelech there arose to deliver Israel Tola the son of Puah, son of Dodo, a man of Issachar; and he lived at Shamir in the hill country of Ephraim.	1 Nach Abimelech trat dann zur Errettung Israels ein Mann aus dem Stamm Issaschar auf, nämlich Thola, der Sohn Puas, des Sohnes Dodos; er wohnte in Samir im Gebirge Ephraim
2 And he judged Israel twenty-three years. Then he died, and was buried at Shamir.	2 und waltete als Richter in Israel dreiundzwanzig Jahre lang; dann starb er und wurde in Samir begraben.
3 After him arose Jair the Gileadite, who judged Israel twenty-two years.	3 Nach ihm trat Jair aus Gilead auf und richtete Israel zweiundzwanzig Jahre.
4 And he had thirty sons who rode on thirty asses; and they had thirty cities, called Havvoth-jair to this day, which are in the land of Gilead.	4 Er hatte dreißig Söhne, die auf dreißig Eselsfüllen ritten und dreißig Ortschaften besaßen, die man bis auf den heutigen Tag die ›Zeltdörfer Jairs‹ nennt; sie liegen in der Landschaft Gilead (vgl. 4.Mose 32,41).
5 And Jair died, and was buried in Kamon.	5 Dann starb Jair und wurde in Kamon begraben.
6 And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, and served the Baals and the Ashtaroth, the gods of Syria, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites, and the gods of the Philistines; and they forsook the LORD, and did not serve him.	6 Aber die Israeliten taten wiederum, was dem HERRN mißfiel; denn sie dienten den Baalen und Astarten (vgl. 2,13), den Göttern der Syrer und der Sidonier, den Göttern der Moabiter, der Ammoniter und der Philister; den HERRN aber verließen sie und dienten ihm nicht.
7 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines and into the hand of the Ammonites,	7 Da entbrannte der Zorn des HERRN gegen die Israeliten, so daß er sie in die Gewalt der Philister und in die Hand der Ammoniter fallen ließ;
8 and they crushed and oppressed the children of Israel that year. For eighteen years they oppressed all the people of Israel that were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.	8 die bedrückten und mißhandelten die Israeliten achtzehn Jahre lang, nämlich alle Israeliten jenseits des Jordans im Lande der Amoriter, die in Gilead wohnten.
9 And the Ammonites crossed the Jordan to fight also against Judah and against Benjamin and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was sorely distressed.	9 Als nun die Ammoniter sogar über den Jordan zogen, um auch Juda, Benjamin und den Stamm Ephraim zu bekriegen, da gerieten die Israeliten in sehr große Angst.
10 And the people of Israel cried to the LORD, saying, "We have sinned against thee, because we have forsaken our God and have served the Baals."	10 Da riefen die Israeliten den HERRN laut um Hilfe an und bekannten: »Wir haben gegen dich gesündigt, und zwar dadurch, daß wir unsern Gott verlassen und den Baalen gedient haben!«
11 And the LORD said to the people of Israel, "Did I not deliver you from the Egyptians and from the Amorites, from the Ammonites and from the Philistines?	11 Da antwortete der HERR den Israeliten: »Habe ich euch nicht von den Ägyptern und Amoritern, von den Ammonitern und Philistern errettet?
12 The Sidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, oppressed you; and you cried to me, and I delivered you out of their hand.	12 Und als die Sidonier, die Amalekiter und die Midianiter euch bedrängten und ihr mich um Hilfe anrieft, habe ich euch da nicht aus ihrer Gewalt befreit?
13 Yet you have forsaken me and served other gods; therefore I will deliver you no more.	13 Ihr aber habt mich verlassen und anderen Göttern gedient; darum will ich euch hinfort nicht mehr erretten.
14 Go and cry to the gods whom you have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your distress."	14 Geht hin und schreit um Hilfe zu den Göttern, die ihr euch erwählt habt: die mögen euch helfen, wenn ihr in Not seid!«
15 And the people of Israel said to the LORD, "We have sinned; do to us whatever seems good to thee; only deliver us, we pray thee, this day."	15 Da beteten die Israeliten zum HERRN: »Wir haben gesündigt! Verfahre mit uns ganz so, wie es dir wohlgefällt, nur rette uns noch dies eine Mal!«
16 So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the LORD; and he became indignant over the misery of Israel.	16 Darauf entfernten sie die fremden Götter aus ihrer Mitte und verehrten den HERRN; da konnte er sein Erbarmen mit der Not Israels nicht länger zurückhalten.
17 Then the Ammonites were called to arms, and they encamped in Gilead; and the people of Israel came together, and they encamped at Mizpah.	17 Als nun die Ammoniter nach dem Aufgebot ihrer Kriegsmacht sich in Gilead lagerten und die Israeliten sich gesammelt und ein Lager bei Mizpa bezogen hatten,
18 And the people, the leaders of Gilead, said one to another, "Who is the man that will begin to fight against the Ammonites? He shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead."	18 da sagte das Volk, die Fürsten von Gilead, zueinander: »Wer ist der Mann, der zuerst den Angriff gegen die Ammoniter wagt? Er soll das Oberhaupt aller Bewohner Gileads sein!«
