1 After the death of Joshua the people of Israel inquired of the LORD, "Who shall go up first for us against the Canaanites, to fight against them?"	1 Después de la muerte de Josué, los israelitas hicieron esta consulta a Yahveh: «¿Quién de nosotros subirá el primero a combatir a los cananeos?»
2 The LORD said, "Judah shall go up; behold, I have given the land into his hand."	2 Yahveh repondió: «Subirá Judá, he puesto el país en sus manos».
3 And Judah said to Simeon his brother, "Come up with me into the territory allotted to me, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with you into the territory allotted to you." So Simeon went with him.	3 Judá dijo a su hermano Simeón: «Sube conmigo al territorio que me ha tocado; atacaremos al cananeo; y luego yo también iré contigo a tu territorio». Y Simeón marchó con él.
4 Then Judah went up and the LORD gave the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand; and they defeated ten thousand of them at Bezek.	4 Subió Judá; Yahveh puso en sus manos a los cananeos y a los perizitas, y derrotaron en Bezeq a 10.000 hombres.
5 They came upon Adoni-bezek at Bezek, and fought against him, and defeated the Canaanites and the Perizzites.	5 Habiendo encontrado en Bezeq a Adoni Bézeq, le atacaron y derrotaron a los cananeos y a los perizitas.
6 Adoni-bezek fled; but they pursued him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.	6 Huyó Adoni Bézeq, pero le persiguieron, le capturaron y le cortaron los pulgares de manos y pies.
7 And Adoni-bezek said, "Seventy kings with their thumbs and their great toes cut off used to pick up scraps under my table; as I have done, so God has requited me." And they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.	7 Y Adoni Bézeq dijo: «Setenta reyes, con los pulgares de manos y pies cortados, andaban recogiendo migajas bajo mi mesa. Según lo que yo hice, así me ha pagado Dios». Le llevaron a Jerusalén, y allí murió.
8 And the men of Judah fought against Jerusalem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.	8 (Los hijos de Judá atacaron a Jerusalén, la tomaron, la pasaron a cuchillo y prendieron fuego a la ciudad).
9 And afterward the men of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites who dwelt in the hill country, in the Negeb, and in the lowland.	9 Después, los hijos de Judá bajaron a atacar a los cananeos, que ocupaban la Montaña, el Négueb y la Tierra Baja.
10 And Judah went against the Canaanites who dwelt in Hebron (now the name of Hebron was formerly Kiriath-arba); and they defeated Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai.	10 Luego Judá marchó contra los cananeos que habitaban en Hebrón - el nombre de Hebrón era antes Quiryat Arbá - y derrotó a Sesay, Ajimán y Talmay.
11 From there they went against the inhabitants of Debir. The name of Debir was formerly Kiriath-sepher.	11 De allí marchó contra los habitantes de Debir - el nombre de Debir era antes Quiryat Séfer. -
12 And Caleb said, "He who attacks Kiriath-sepher and takes it, I will give him Achsah my daughter as wife."	12 Y Caleb dijo: «Al que derrote a Quiryat Séfer y la tome, le daré mi hija Aksá por mujer».
13 And Othni-el the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it; and he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife.	13 La tomó Otniel, hijo de Quenaz, el hermano menor de Caleb. Y éste le dio su hija Aksá por mujer.
14 When she came to him, she urged him to ask her father for a field; and she alighted from her ass, and Caleb said to her, "What do you wish?"	14 Cuando ella vino donde el marido, le incitó a que pidiera a su padre un campo. Ella se apeó del asno, y Caleb le preguntó: «¿Qué quieres?»
15 She said to him, "Give me a present; since you have set me in the land of the Negeb, give me also springs of water." And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.	15 Ella respondió: «Hazme un regalo. Ya que me has dado la tierra del Négueb, dame fuentes de agua». Y Caleb le dio las fuentes de arriba y las fuentes de abajo.
16 And the descendants of the Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, went up with the people of Judah from the city of palms into the wilderness of Judah, which lies in the Negeb near Arad; and they went and settled with the people.	16 Los hijos de Jobab el quenita, suegro de Moisés, subieron con los hijos de Judá de la ciudad de las Palmeras al desierto de Judá, que está en el Négueb de Arad, y fueron a habitar con el pueblo.
17 And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they defeated the Canaanites who inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. So the name of the city was called Hormah.	17 Judá se fue con su hermano Simeón, derrotaron a los cananeos que habitaban en Sefat y consagraron la ciudad al anatema. Por eso la ciudad se llamó Jormá.
18 Judah also took Gaza with its territory, and Ashkelon with its territory, and Ekron with its territory.	18 Judá se apoderó de Gaza y su comarca, de Ascalón y su comarca, de Ecrón y su comarca;
19 And the LORD was with Judah, and he took possession of the hill country, but he could not drive out the inhabitants of the plain, because they had chariots of iron.	19 Yahveh estuvo con Judá, que conquistó la Montaña; pero no pudo expulsar a los habitantes del llano, porque tenían carros de hierro.
20 And Hebron was given to Caleb, as Moses had said; and he drove out from it the three sons of Anak.	20 Dieron Hebrón a Caleb, según el mandato de Moisés: y él arrojó de allí a los tres hijos de Anaq.
21 But the people of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites who dwelt in Jerusalem; so the Jebusites have dwelt with the people of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.	21 Los hijos de Benjamín no expulsaron a los jebuseos que habitaban en Jerusalén; por eso los jebuseos siguen habitando en Jerusalén con los hijos de Benjamín, hasta el día de hoy.
22 The house of Joseph also went up against Bethel; and the LORD was with them.	22 También la casa de José subió a Betel; Yahveh estuvo con ella.
23 And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel. (Now the name of the city was formerly Luz.)	23 La casa de José hizo una exploración por Betel. (Antes la ciudad se llamaba Luz.)
24 And the spies saw a man coming out of the city, and they said to him, "Pray, show us the way into the city, and we will deal kindly with you."	24 Los espías vieron a un hombre que salía de la ciudad y le dijeron: «Indícanos la entrada de la ciudad y te lo agradeceremos».
25 And he showed them the way into the city; and they smote the city with the edge of the sword, but they let the man and all his family go.	25 El les enseñó la entrada de la ciudad: la pasaron a cuchillo, y dejaron libre a aquel hombre con toda su familia.
26 And the man went to the land of the Hittites and built a city, and called its name Luz; that is its name to this day.	26 El hombre se fue al país de los hititas y construyó una ciudad, a la que llamó Luz. Es el nombre que tiene hasta la fecha.
27 Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean and its villages, or Taa-nach and its villages, or the inhabitants of Dor and its villages, or the inhabitants of Ibleam and its villages, or the inhabitants of Megiddo and its villages; but the Canaanites persisted in dwelling in that land.	27 Manasés no se apoderó de Bet Seán y sus filiales, ni de Tanak y sus filiales. No expulsó a los habitantes de Dor y sus filiales, ni a los de Yibleam y sus filiales, ni a los de Meguiddó y sus filiales: los cananeos siguieron ocupando el territorio.
28 When Israel grew strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor, but did not utterly drive them out.	28 Sin embargo, cuando Israel cobró más fuerza, sometió a los cananeos a tributo, aunque no llegó a expulsarlos.
29 And Ephraim did not drive out the Canaanites who dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.	29 Tampoco Efraím expulsó a los cananeos que habitaban en Guézer, de manera que los cananeos siguieron viviendo en Guézer, en medio de Israel.
30 Zebulun did not drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, or the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became subject to forced labor.	30 Zabulón no expulsó a los habitantes de Quitrón, ni a los de Nahalol. Los cananeos se quedaron en medio de Zabulón, pero fueron sometidos a tributo.
31 Asher did not drive out the inhabitants of Acco, or the inhabitants of Sidon, or of Ahlab, or of Achzib, or of Helbah, or of Aphik, or of Rehob;	31 Aser no expulsó a los habitantes de Akko, ni a los de Sidón, de Majaleb, de Akzib, de Jelbá, de Afiq, ni de Rejob.
32 but the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not drive them out.	32 Los aseritas se establecieron, pues, entre los cananeos que habitaban en el país, porque no los expulsaron.
33 Naphtali did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, or the inhabitants of Beth-anath, but dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became subject to forced labor for them.	33 Neftalí no expulsó a los habitantes de Bet Semes, ni a los de Bet Anat, y se estableció entre los cananeos que habitaban en el país; pero los habitantes de Bet Semes y de Bet Anat fueron sus tributarios.
34 The Amorites pressed the Danites back into the hill country, for they did not allow them to come down to the plain;	34 Los amorreos rechazaron hacia la montaña a los hijos de Dan sin dejarles bajar a la llanura.
35 the Amorites persisted in dwelling in Har-heres, in Aijalon, and in Sha-albim, but the hand of the house of Joseph rested heavily upon them, and they became subject to forced labor.	35 Los amorreos se mantuvieron en Har Jéres, en Ayyalón y en Saalbim, pero luego pesó sobre ellos la mano de la casa de José y fueron reducidos a tributo.
36 And the border of the Amorites ran from the ascent of Akrabbim, from Sela and upward.	36 (La frontera de los edomitas va desde la cuesta de los Escorpiones, desde la Peña, y hacia arriba.)
