1 For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him;	1 - Questo Melchisedec, re di Salem, sacerdote del Dio altissimo, colui che mosse incontro ad Abramo quando tornava dalla sconfitta dei re, e lo benedisse,
2 and to him Abraham apportioned a tenth part of everything. He is first, by translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, that is, king of peace.	2 a cui Abramo fece anche parte della decima d'ogni cosa, colui il cui nome fu interpretato «re di giustizia» e poi anche «re di Salem» ossia re della pace,
3 He is without father or mother or genealogy, and has neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling the Son of God he continues a priest for ever.	3 colui che è senza padre e senza madre, senza genealogia, e che non ha nè principio di giorni nè termine di vita - così è fatto simile al figlio di Dio, - colui rimane sacerdote in eterno.
4 See how great he is! Abraham the patriarch gave him a tithe of the spoils.	4 Considerate quanto è grande colui, a cui il patriarca Abramo diede le decime del miglior bottino.
5 And those descendants of Levi who receive the priestly office have a commandment in the law to take tithes from the people, that is, from their brethren, though these also are descended from Abraham.	5 I discendenti dai figli di Levi, che ricevono il sacerdozio, hanno, secondo la Legge, l'ordine di prender le decime dal popolo, ciò è a dire, dai fratelli propri, sebbene usciti dai lombi di Abramo;
6 But this man who has not their genealogy received tithes from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises.	6 ed egli, che non è della loro discendenza, prese le decime su Abramo, e benedì colui che aveva le promesse.
7 It is beyond dispute that the inferior is blessed by the superior.	7 Or senza alcuna possibilità di contraddire, è l'inferiore che riceve la benedizione del superiore.
8 Here tithes are received by mortal men; there, by one of whom it is testified that he lives.	8 E qui uomini mortali ricevon le decime, là invece le prende uno di cui si attesta che vive.
9 One might even say that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham,	9 E (per così dire), Levi stesso che prende le decime, nella persona di Abramo ha ceduto le decime
10 for he was still in the loins of his ancestor when Melchizedek met him.	10 poichè era ancora nei lombi del padre quando lo incontrò Melchisedec.
11 Now if perfection had been attainable through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need would there have been for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, rather than one named after the order of Aaron?	11 Se dunque la perfezione avesse potuto aver luogo per via del sacerdozio levitico (poichè sotto di esso ricevette il popolo la sua legislazione), che bisogno c'era ancora sorgesse un altro sacerdote secondo l'ordine di Melchisedec, e non si dicesse secondo l'ordine di Aronne?
12 For when there is a change in the priesthood, there is necessarily a change in the law as well.	12 poichè mutato il sacerdozio, di necessità avviene anche il mutamento della legge.
13 For the one of whom these things are spoken belonged to another tribe, from which no one has ever served at the altar.	13 Poichè colui rispetto al qual si dice questo, appartenne a un'altra tribù, dei cui discendenti nessuno fece servizio all'altare;
14 For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, and in connection with that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.	14 giacchè è certo che il Signor nostro è sorto dalla tribù di Giuda, rispetto alla quale Mosè non disse nulla di relativo a sacerdoti.
15 This becomes even more evident when another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek,	15 E molto più evidente ancora si fa la cosa quando si vede sorgere un altro sacerdote secondo la somiglianza di Melchisedec,
16 who has become a priest, not according to a legal requirement concerning bodily descent but by the power of an indestructible life.	16 il quale sacerdote venne a essere non secondo la legge d'un ordine carnale ma in virtù d'una vita imperitura.
17 For it is witnessed of him, "Thou art a priest for ever, after the order of Melchizedek."	17 Difatti l'attestazione è: «Tu sarai in eterno sacerdote secondo l'ordine di Melchisedec».
18 On the one hand, a former commandment is set aside because of its weakness and uselessness	18 Così ha luogo l'abrogazione di una legge per quel che v'è di debole e d'inutile,
19 (for the law made nothing perfect); on the other hand, a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.	19 - poichè la Legge non ha portato nulla a perfezione - e v'è l'introduzione di una miglior speranza per cui ci accostiamo a Dio. Altre prerogative del sacerdozio di Gesù
20 And it was not without an oath.	20 E come ciò avvenne non senza un giuramento (quegli altri senza giuramento sono stati fatti sacerdoti,
21 Those who formerly became priests took their office without an oath, but this one was addressed with an oath, "The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind, 'Thou art a priest for ever.'"	21 ma Egli con giuramento per via di chi gli disse: «Giurò il Signore, e non se ne pentirà: - Tu sarai sacerdote in eterno -»),
22 This makes Jesus the surety of a better covenant.	22 così d'un patto anche migliore del precedente s'è fatto garante Gesù.
23 The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office;	23 Inoltre, quelli erano sacerdoti in molti perchè dalla morte erano impediti di perdurar tali;
24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues for ever.	24 ma Egli rimanendo in eterno, ha un sacerdozio che non si trasmette;
25 Consequently he is able for all time to save those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.	25 ond'è ch'Egli può anche salvar perfettamente coloro che per via di lui si accostano a Dio, sempre essendo vivo sì da poter intercedere in loro favore.
26 For it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, blameless, unstained, separated from sinners, exalted above the heavens.	26 Tale era infatti il Sommo Sacerdote che a noi conveniva, santo, innocente, senza macchia, staccato dai peccatori, ed elevato al di sopra dei cieli;
27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people; he did this once for all when he offered up himself.	27 il quale non ha bisogno, giorno per giorno, come gli altri sommi sacerdoti, di far sacrifizi prima per i propri peccati, poi per quelli del popolo, poichè questo lo fece per una volta tanto offrendo se stesso.
28 Indeed, the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect for ever.	28 Poichè la Legge costituisce sacerdoti uomini soggetti a ogni debolezza, e la parola del giuramento posteriore alla Legge pone un Figliuolo che è perfetto in eterno.
