1 Then allotment was made to the tribe of Manasseh, for he was the first-born of Joseph. To Machir the first-born of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, were allotted Gilead and Bashan, because he was a man of war.	1 Voici le partage échu par le sort à la tribu de Manassé, qui fut le fils aîné de Joseph ; à Machir, fils aîné de Manassé et père de Galaad, qui fut un vaillant homme, et qui eut le pays de Galaad et de Basan,
2 And allotments were made to the rest of the tribe of Manasseh, by their families, Abi-ezer, Helek, Asri-el, Shechem, Hepher, and Shemida; these were the male descendants of Manasseh the son of Joseph, by their families.	2 et au reste des enfants de Manassé divisés selon leurs familles, aux enfants d'Abiézer, aux enfants d'Hélec, aux enfants d'Esriel, aux enfants de Séchem, aux enfants d'Hépher, et aux enfants de Sémida. Ce sont là les enfants mâles de Manassé, fils de Joseph, divisés selon leurs familles.
3 Now Zelophehad the son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, had no sons, but only daughters; and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.	3 Mais Salphaad, fils d'Hépher, fils de Galaad, fils de Machir, fils de Manassé, n'avait point eu de fils, mais des filles seulement, dont voici les noms : Maala, Noa, Hégla, Melcha et Thersa.
4 They came before Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun and the leaders, and said, "The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance along with our brethren." So according to the commandment of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father.	4 Ces filles vinrent se présenter devant le grand prêtre Eléazar, devant Josué fils de Nun, et les princes du peuple, et leur dirent : Le Seigneur a ordonné par Moïse qu'on nous donnât des terres en partage au milieu de nos frères. Josué leur donna donc des terres en partage au milieu des frères de leur père, selon que le Seigneur l'avait commandé.
5 Thus there fell to Manasseh ten portions, besides the land of Gilead and Bashan, which is on the other side of the Jordan;	5 Ainsi la tribu de Manassé eut dix portions dans la contrée, outre le pays de Galaad et de Basan qui lui fut donné au-delà du Jourdain.
6 because the daughters of Manasseh received an inheritance along with his sons. The land of Gilead was allotted to the rest of the Manassites.	6 Car les filles de Manassé eurent des terres pour leur héritage parmi les enfants de Manassé, et le pays de Galaad échut en partage aux autres enfants de Manassé.
7 The territory of Manasseh reached from Asher to Mich-methath, which is east of Shechem; then the boundary goes along southward to the inhabitants of En-tappuah.	7 La frontière de Manassé depuis Aser fut Machméthath, qui regarde vers Sichem, et elle s'étendait à (main) droite le long (près) des habitants de la fontaine de Taphua,
8 The land of Tappuah belonged to Manasseh, but the town of Tappuah on the boundary of Manasseh belonged to the sons of Ephraim.	8 Car le territoire de Taphua était échu par le sort à Manassé ; mais la ville de Taphua, qui est aux confins de Manassé, fut donnée aux enfants d'Ephraïm.
9 Then the boundary went down to the brook Kanah. The cities here, to the south of the brook, among the cities of Manasseh, belong to Ephraim. Then the boundary of Manasseh goes on the north side of the brook and ends at the sea;	9 Cette frontière descendait à la vallée des Roseaux, vers le midi du torrent des villes d'Ephraïm, qui sont au milieu des villes de Manassé. La frontière de Manassé est au nord du torrent, et elle va se terminer à la mer.
10 the land to the south being Ephraim's and that to the north being Manassehs, with the sea forming its boundary; on the north Asher is reached, and on the east Issachar.	10 Ainsi, ce qui est du côté du midi est à Ephraïm, et ce qui est du côté du nord est à Manassé, et la mer est la limite de l'un et de l'autre ; en sorte que, du côté du nord, ils s'unissent à la tribu d'Aser, et du côté du levant à la tribu d'Issachar.
11 Also in Issachar and in Asher Manasseh had Beth-shean and its villages, and Ibleam and its villages, and the inhabitants of Dor and its villages, and the inhabitants of En-dor and its villages, and the inhabitants of Taanach and its villages, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its villages; the third is Naphath.	11 Manassé eut pour héritage, dans la tribu d'Issachar et d'Aser, Betsan (Bethsan ?) avec ses villages, Jéblaam avec ses villages, les habitants de Dor avec leurs bourgs, les habitants d'Endor avec leurs villages, les habitants de Thénac avec leurs villages, les habitants de Mageddo avec leurs villages, et la troisième partie de la ville de Nopheth.
12 Yet the sons of Manasseh could not take possession of those cities; but the Canaanites persisted in dwelling in that land.	12 Les enfants de Manassé ne purent détruire ces villes, mais les Chananéens commencèrent à habiter dans ce district (son pays).
13 But when the people of Israel grew strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor, and did not utterly drive them out.	13 Et (Mais) après que les enfants d'Israël se furent fortifiés, ils s'assujettirent les Chananéens et se les rendirent tributaires, mais ils ne les mirent pas à mort.
14 And the tribe of Joseph spoke to Joshua, saying, "Why have you given me but one lot and one portion as an inheritance, although I am a numerous people, since hitherto the LORD has blessed me?"	14 (Or) Les enfants de Joseph s'adressèrent à Josué et lui dirent : Pourquoi ne m'as-tu donné qu'une part pour héritage, à moi qui suis un peuple si nombreux et que le Seigneur a béni ?
15 And Joshua said to them, "If you are a numerous people, go up to the forest, and there clear ground for yourselves in the land of the Perizzites and the Rephaim, since the hill country of Ephraim is too narrow for you."	15 Josué leur répondit : Si tu es un peuple (si) nombreux, monte à la forêt, et fais-toi de la place en coupant le bois dans le pays des Phérézéens et des Raphaïm, puisque la montagne d'Ephraïm est trop étroite pour vous.
16 The tribe of Joseph said, "The hill country is not enough for us; yet all the Canaanites who dwell in the plain have chariots of iron, both those in Beth-shean and its villages and those in the Valley of Jezreel."	16 Les enfants de Joseph lui répondirent : Nous ne pourrons gagner le pays des montagnes, parce que les Chananéens qui habitent dans la plaine où est Bethsan avec ses villages, et Jezraël qui est au milieu de la vallée, ont des chars (armés) de fer.
17 Then Joshua said to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and Manasseh, "You are a numerous people, and have great power; you shall not have one lot only,	17 Josué répondit à la maison de Joseph, Ephraïm et Manassé : Tu es un peuple nombreux et ta force est grande. Tu ne te contenteras pas d'une seule part ;
18 but the hill country shall be yours, for though it is a forest, you shall clear it and possess it to its farthest borders; for you shall drive out the Canaanites, though they have chariots of iron, and though they are strong."	18 mais tu passeras à la montagne, et tu couperas les arbres et tu te feras de la place pour y habiter ; et tu pourras passer encore plus loin, lorsque tu auras exterminé les Chananéens que tu dis avoir des chars (armés) de fer et être un peuple très fort.
