Joshua 10

1 When Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it, doing to Ai and its king as he had done to Jericho and its king, and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were among them,	1 Der König Adonizedek von Jerusalem hörte, daß Josua Aj erobert und an ihm den Bann vollstreckt hatte, daß er, wie er mit Jericho und seinem König verfuhr, so auch an Aj und seinem König gehandelt hatte, und daß die Bewohner von Gibeon, friedlich mit Israel verbunden, in ihrer Mitte lebten.
2 he feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, like one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all its men were mighty.	2 Da fürchteten sie sich sehr; denn Gibeon war eine große Stadt gleich einer von den Königsstädten; es war größer als Aj, und seine Männer waren tapfer.
3 So Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem sent to Hoham king of Hebron, to Piram king of Jarmuth, to Japhia king of Lachish, and to Debir king of Eglon, saying,	3 Der König Adonizedek von Jerusalem schickte an Hoham, den König von Hebron, und an Piram, den König von Jarmut, an Japhia, den König von Lachis, und an Debir, den König von Eglon, und forderte sie auf:
4 "Come up to me, and help me, and let us smite Gibeon; for it has made peace with Joshua and with the people of Israel."	4 "Zieht zu mir herauf und kommt mir zu Hilfe! Wir wollen Gibeon schlagen, weil es sich mit Josua und den Israeliten friedlich geeinigt hat!"
5 Then the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon, gathered their forces, and went up with all their armies and encamped against Gibeon, and made war against it.	5 Die fünf Amoriterkönige schlossen sich zusammen und zogen herbei: die Könige von Jerusalem, von Hebron, von Jarmut, von Lachis und von Eglon mit all ihren Heerlagern nahmen Stellung vor Gibeon und eröffneten den Kampf.
6 And the men of Gibeon sent to Joshua at the camp in Gilgal, saying, "Do not relax your hand from your servants; come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us; for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill country are gathered against us."	6 Da sandten die Männer von Gibeon zu Josua ins Lager nach Gilgal mit der Bitte: "Ziehe deine Hand von deinen Knechten nicht zurück! Komm schleunigst zu uns, rette uns und hilf uns! Denn alle Könige der Amoriter, die auf dem Gebirge wohnen, haben sich wider uns zusammengetan."
7 So Joshua went up from Gilgal, he and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valor.	7 Josua zog von Gilgal aus mit seinem ganzen Kriegsvolk, lauter tapferen Helden.
8 And the LORD said to Joshua, "Do not fear them, for I have given them into your hands; there shall not a man of them stand before you."	8 Da sprach der Herr zu Josua: "Fürchte dich vor ihnen nicht, denn ich gebe sie in deine Gewalt! Niemand von ihnen wird vor dir standhalten."
9 So Joshua came upon them suddenly, having marched up all night from Gilgal.	9 Josua stieß unversehens auf sie. Die ganze Nacht hindurch war er von Gilgal aus marschiert.
10 And the LORD threw them into a panic before Israel, who slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them by the way of the ascent of Beth-horon, and smote them as far as Azekah and Makkedah.	10 Da brachte der Herr sie vor Israel in Verwirrung; die Israeliten brachten ihnen bei Gibeon eine schwere Niederlage bei und verfolgten sie in Richtung zur Steige von Bet-Choron und schlugen sie bis Aseka und Makkeda.
11 And as they fled before Israel, while they were going down the ascent of Beth-horon, the LORD threw down great stones from heaven upon them as far as Azekah, and they died; there were more who died because of the hailstones than the men of Israel killed with the sword.	11 Sie waren auf der Flucht vor Israel beim Abhang von Bet-Choron. Da ließ der Herr große Steine vom Himmel her auf sie fallen, bis nach Aseka, so daß sie umkamen. Die durch Hagelsteine endeten, waren zahlreicher als jene, welche die Israeliten mit dem Schwert erschlugen.
12 Then spoke Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD gave the Amorites over to the men of Israel; and he said in the sight of Israel, "Sun, stand thou still at Gibeon, and thou Moon in the valley of Aijalon."	12 Damals sprach Josua zum Herrn, als der Herr die Amoriter den Israeliten preisgab, und er sagte in Gegenwart der Israeliten: "Sonne, zu Gibeon halt an, und Mond, im Tal von Ajjalon!"
13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the nation took vengeance on their enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jashar? The sun stayed in the midst of heaven, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day.	13 Da hielt die Sonne an, und der Mond stand still, bis er sich gerächt hatte am Volke seiner Feinde. Steht das nicht so geschrieben im "Buche des Rechtschaffenen"? So stand die Sonne mitten am Himmel still und eilte nicht unterzugehen, etwa einen vollen Tag lang.
14 There has been no day like it before or since, when the LORD hearkened to the voice of a man; for the LORD fought for Israel.	14 Einen Tag wie diesen gab es weder vorher noch nachher, daß der Herr einer Menschenstimme gehorcht hätte; denn der Herr kämpfte für Israel.
15 Then Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to the camp at Gilgal.	15 Dann kehrte Josua und mit ihm ganz Israel in das Lager nach Gilgal zurück.
16 These five kings fled, and hid themselves in the cave at Makkedah.	16 Jene fünf Könige aber flohen und versteckten sich in der Höhle bei Makkeda.
17 And it was told Joshua, "The five kings have been found, hidden in the cave at Makkedah."	17 Dem Josua wurde gemeldet: "Die fünf Könige hat man gefunden, sie haben sich in der Höhle bei Makkeda versteckt."
18 And Joshua said, "Roll great stones against the mouth of the cave, and set men by it to guard them;	18 Josua sprach: "Wälzt große Steine vor den Eingang der Höhle und beauftragt einige Leute damit, sie zu bewachen!
19 but do not stay there yourselves, pursue your enemies, fall upon their rear, do not let them enter their cities; for the LORD your God has given them into your hand."	19 Ihr selbst aber bleibt nicht stehen, verfolgt eure Feinde, faßt sie von hinten, laßt sie nicht in ihre Städte gelangen; denn der Herr, euer Gott, gibt sie in eure Gewalt!"
20 When Joshua and the men of Israel had finished slaying them with a very great slaughter, until they were wiped out, and when the remnant which remained of them had entered into the fortified cities,	20 Josua und die Israeliten hatten die gewaltige, große Niederlage bis zu deren völliger Vernichtung vollendet. Einige von ihnen waren allerdings entronnen und in feste Städte gelangt.
21 all the people returned safe to Joshua in the camp at Makkedah; not a man moved his tongue against any of the people of Israel.	21 Alle Leute kehrten ins Lager zu Josua nach Makkeda unversehrt zurück; niemand hatte die Söhne Israels auch nur irgendwie behelligt.
22 Then Joshua said, "Open the mouth of the cave, and bring those five kings out to me from the cave."	22 Dann sprach Josua: "Öffnet den Höhleneingang und führt mir jene fünf Könige aus der Höhle heraus!"
23 And they did so, and brought those five kings out to him from the cave, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.	23 Man tat so und führte die Könige aus der Höhle heraus: die Könige von Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmut, Lachis und Eglon.
24 And when they brought those kings out to Joshua, Joshua summoned all the men of Israel, and said to the chiefs of the men of war who had gone with him, "Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings." Then they came near, and put their feet on their necks.	24 Als man sie zu Josua gebracht hatte, berief er alle Israeliten und sprach zu den Führern der Kriegsmannen, die mit ihm gezogen waren: "Tretet heran und setzt euren Fuß auf den Nacken der Könige!" Sie kamen heran und setzten ihren Fuß auf deren Nacken.
25 And Joshua said to them, "Do not be afraid or dismayed; be strong and of good courage; for thus the LORD will do to all your enemies against whom you fight."	25 Dann sprach Josua zu ihnen: "Seid furchtlos und ohne Bangen! Seid mutvoll und stark! Denn so wird der Herr mit all euren Feinden verfahren, die ihr zu bekämpfen habt."
26 And afterward Joshua smote them and put them to death, and he hung them on five trees. And they hung upon the trees until evening;	26 Darauf ließ Josua sie erschlagen und töten und an fünf Galgen aufhängen. Sie blieben daran bis zum Abend hängen.
27 but at the time of the going down of the sun, Joshua commanded, and they took them down from the trees, and threw them into the cave where they had hidden themselves, and they set great stones against the mouth of the cave, which remain to this very day.	27 Gegen Sonnenuntergang ließ Josua sie von den Galgen abnehmen und in die Höhle werfen, worin sie sich versteckt hatten. Man wälzte große Steine an den Höhleneingang, die bis heute noch da sind.
28 And Joshua took Makkedah on that day, and smote it and its king with the edge of the sword; he utterly destroyed every person in it, he left none remaining; and he did to the king of Makkedah as he had done to the king of Jericho.	28 An jenem Tage nahm Josua Makkeda ein; er schlug es und seinen König mit des Schwertes Schärfe und vollstreckte den Bann an ihnen und allen dort befindlichen Lebewesen; keinen ließ er entweichen; er verfuhr mit dem König von Makkeda so, wie er mit dem König von Jericho verfahren war.
29 Then Joshua passed on from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, to Libnah, and fought against Libnah;	29 Dann zogen Josua und Gesamtisrael von Makkeda nach Libna und bekämpften Libna.
30 and the LORD gave it also and its king into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and every person in it; he left none remaining in it; and he did to its king as he had done to the king of Jericho.	30 Der Herr gab auch dieses mit seinem König in die Hand Israels. Josua schlug es samt allen seinen Bewohnern mit der Schärfe des Schwertes. Niemand ließ er entkommen; er verfuhr mit seinem König so, wie er mit dem König von Jericho verfahren war.
31 And Joshua passed on from Libnah, and all Israel with him, to Lachish, and laid siege to it, and assaulted it:	31 Dann zog Josua und Gesamtisrael mit ihm von Libna nach Lachis, belagerte und bekämpfte es.
32 and the LORD gave Lachish into the hand of Israel, and he took it on the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and every person in it, as he had done to Libnah.	32 Da gab der Herr Lachis in die Gewalt Israels. Josua nahm es am zweiten Tage ein, schlug es samt allem, was darin lebte, mit der Schärfe des Schwertes, genau wie er mit Libna verfahren war.
33 Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua smote him and his people, until he left none remaining.	33 Damals zog Horam, der König von Geser, Lachis zu Hilfe; aber Josua schlug ihn und sein Kriegsvolk, bis keiner mehr übrigblieb, der hätte entkommen können.
34 And Joshua passed on with all Israel from Lachish to Eglon; and they laid siege to it, and assaulted it;	34 Josua und ganz Israel zogen weiter von Lachis nach Eglon. Sie belagerten es und griffen es an.
35 and they took it on that day, and smote it with the edge of the sword; and every person in it he utterly destroyed that day, as he had done to Lachish.	35 An jenem Tag eroberten sie Eglon und schlugen es mit der Schärfe des Schwertes. An allem Lebendigen vollstreckten sie damals den Bann, genauso wie man mit Lachis verfahren war.
36 Then Joshua went up with all Israel from Eglon to Hebron; and they assaulted it,	36 Josua und ganz Israel zogen von Eglon weiter nach Hebron und bekämpften es.
37 and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and its king and its towns, and every person in it; he left none remaining, as he had done to Eglon, and utterly destroyed it with every person in it.	37 Man nahm es ein und schlug Hebron mit des Schwertes Schärfe samt seinem König, allen zugehörigen Städten und allen Lebewesen darin. Niemand ließ er entrinnen, ganz wie er an Eglon getan hatte. Josua vollstreckte an der Stadt und allen Lebewesen in ihr den Bann.
38 Then Joshua, with all Israel, turned back to Debir and assaulted it,	38 Dann wandte sich Josua und mit ihm ganz Israel zurück nach Debir und bestürmte es.
39 and he took it with its king and all its towns; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed every person in it; he left none remaining; as he had done to Hebron and to Libnah and its king, so he did to Debir and to its king.	39 Er nahm es ein samt seinem König und allen zugehörigen Städten. Man schlug es mit des Schwertes Schärfe und vollstreckte den Bann an allem Lebendigen darin. Niemand ließ er entkommen; wie er an Hebron getan hatte, verfuhr er an Debir und seinem König, oder wie er an Libna und seinem König getan hatte.
40 So Joshua defeated the whole land, the hill country and the Negeb and the lowland and the slopes, and all their kings; he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel commanded.	40 Josua schlug das ganze Land: die Gebirgsgegend, das Südland, die Niederung und die Abhänge samt all ihren Königen. Niemand ließ er entkommen; alles, was Odem hatte, bannte er, wie der Herr, der Gott Israels, befohlen hatte.
41 And Joshua defeated them from Kadesh-barnea to Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, as far as Gibeon.	41 Josua schlug sie von Kades-Barnea bis Gaza, dazu das ganze Land Goschen bis nach Gibeon.
42 And Joshua took all these kings and their land at one time, because the LORD God of Israel fought for Israel.	42 Mit einem Schlage besiegte Josua alle jene Könige und ihr Land; denn der Herr, der Gott Israels, stritt für Israel.
43 Then Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to the camp at Gilgal.	43 Dann kehrte Josua und ganz Israel mit ihm zum Lager nach Gilgal zurück.
