Romans 13

Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition Biblia Sagrada
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.1 Que todos se sometan a las autoridades constituidas, pues no hay autoridad que no provenga de Dios y las que hay han sido constituidas por Dios.
Therefore he who resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.2 De modo que quien se opone a la autoridad resiste a la disposición de Dios; y los que le resisten atraen la condena sobre sí.
For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of him who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval,3 Pues los gobernantes no dan miedo al que hace el bien, sino al que obra el mal. ¿Quieres no tener miedo a la autoridad? Haz el bien y recibirás sus alabanzas;
for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain; he is the servant of God to execute his wrath on the wrongdoer.4 de hecho, la autoridad es un ministro de Dios para bien tuyo; pero si haces el mal, teme, pues no en vano lleva la espada; ya que es ministro de Dios para aplicar el castigo al que obra el mal.
Therefore one must be subject, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience.5 Por tanto, hay que someterse, no solo por el castigo, sino por razón de conciencia.
For the same reason you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing.6 Por ello precisamente pagáis impuestos, ya que son servidores de Dios, ocupados continuamente en ese oficio.
Pay all of them their dues, taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due.7 Dad a cada cual lo que es debido: si son impuestos, impuestos; si tributos, tributos; si temor, temor; si respeto, respeto.
Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.8 A nadie le debáis nada, más que el amor mutuo; porque el que ama ha cumplido el resto de la ley.
The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall not steal, You shall not covet," and any other commandment, are summed up in this sentence, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."9 De hecho, el no cometerás adulterio, no matarás, no robarás, no codiciarás, y cualquiera de los otros mandamientos, se resume en esto: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.
Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.10 El amor no hace mal a su prójimo; por eso la plenitud de la ley es el amor.
Besides this you know what hour it is, how it is full time now for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed;11 Comportaos así, reconociendo el momento en que vivís, pues ya es hora de despertaros del sueño, porque ahora la salvación está más cerca de nosotros que cuando abrazamos la fe.
the night is far gone, the day is at hand. Let us then cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light;12 La noche está avanzada, el día está cerca: dejemos, pues, las obras de las tinieblas y pongámonos las armas de la luz.
let us conduct ourselves becomingly as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy.13 Andemos como en pleno día, con dignidad. Nada de comilonas y borracheras, nada de lujuria y desenfreno, nada de riñas y envidias.
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.14 Revestíos más bien del Señor Jesucristo, y no deis pábulo a la carne siguiendo sus deseos.
