1 Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, the Hellenists murmured against the Hebrews because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution.	1 Als in jenen Tagen die Zahl der Jünger anwuchs, kam es zu Beschwerden der Hellenisten über die Hebräer, weil bei der täglichen Versorgung ihre Witwen zurückgesetzt wurden.
2 And the twelve summoned the body of the disciples and said, "It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables.	2 Da riefen die Zwölf die ganze Jüngerschaft zusammen und sprachen: "Es geht nicht an, daß wir das Wort Gottes hintansetzen und den Dienst für die Tische übernehmen.
3 Therefore, brethren, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint to this duty.	3 Darum, Brüder, sucht unter euch sieben Männer aus, die ein gutes Zeugnis haben, erfüllt sind von Geist und Weisheit; die werden wir bestellen für diese Aufgabe.
4 But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word."	4 Wir aber wollen uns weiter dem Gebet und dem Dienst am Worte widmen."
5 And what they said pleased the whole multitude, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch.	5 Dieser Vorschlag gefiel der ganzen Versammlung, und sie wählten Stephanus, einen Mann, erfüllt von Glauben und Heiligem Geist, und Philippus, Prochorus, Nikanor, Timon, Parmenas und Nikolaus, einen Proselyten aus Antiochien.
6 These they set before the apostles, and they prayed and laid their hands upon them.	6 Die stellten sie den Aposteln vor, und diese beteten und legten ihnen die Hände auf.
7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith.	7 Das Wort Gottes breitete sich weiter aus, und die Zahl der Jünger wuchs mehr und mehr, auch eine große Anzahl von Priestern beugte sich dem Glauben.
8 And Stephen, full of grace and power, did great wonders and signs among the people.	8 Stephanus aber, voll Gnade und Kraft, tat große Wunder und Zeichen unter dem Volke.
9 Then some of those who belonged to the synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called), and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia and Asia, arose and disputed with Stephen.	9 Da erhoben sich einige von der sogenannten Synagoge der Libertiner, der Cyrenäer, der Alexandriner und von denen aus Cilicien und Asia und stritten mit Stephanus;
10 But they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke.	10 sie vermochten aber der Weisheit und dem Geist, mit dem er redete, nicht zu widerstehen.
11 Then they secretly instigated men, who said, "We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God."	11 Da stifteten sie Männer an, die sagen sollten: "Wir haben gehört, wie er Lästerungen aussprach gegen Moses und gegen Gott."
12 And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes, and they came upon him and seized him and brought him before the council,	12 Sie hetzten das Volk auf und auch die Ältesten und Schriftgelehrten, fielen über ihn her, rissen ihn mit fort und führten ihn vor den Hohen Rat;
13 and set up false witnesses who said, "This man never ceases to speak words against this holy place and the law;	13 sie ließen falsche Zeugen auftreten, die aussagten: "Dieser Mensch hört nicht auf, Reden zu führen gegen die heilige Stätte und gegen das Gesetz.
14 for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses delivered to us."	14 Wir hörten nämlich, wie er sagte: Dieser Jesus, der Nazoräer, wird diese Stätte zerstören und die Bräuche ändern, die uns Moses überliefert hat."
15 And gazing at him, all who sat in the council saw that his face was like the face of an angel.	15 Alle, die im Hohen Rate saßen, richteten den Blick auf ihn und sahen sein Antlitz gleich dem Antlitz eines Engels.
