John 1

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.	1 Au commencement était le Verbe, et le Verbe était auprès de Dieu, et le Verbe était Dieu.
2 He was in the beginning with God;	2 Il était au commencement auprès de Dieu.
3 all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made.	3 L’univers n’a existé que par lui et rien n’a existé sans lui. Ce qui a existé
4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.	4 était vie grâce à lui, et pour les hommes la vie se faisait lumière.
5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.	5 La lumière brille dans les ténèbres, et les ténèbres ne l’ont pas étouffée.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.	6 Un homme est venu, envoyé par Dieu, son nom était Jean.
7 He came for testimony, to bear witness to the light, that all might believe through him.	7 Il est venu comme un témoin, pour rendre témoignage à la lumière; ainsi, par lui, tous pourraient croire.
8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness to the light.	8 Il n’était pas la lumière, mais il venait pour rendre témoignage à la lumière.
9 The true light that enlightens every man was coming into the world.	9 (Le Verbe) était la lumière véritable, celui qui illumine tout être humain, et il venait en ce monde.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world knew him not.	10 Il était déjà dans le monde, ce monde existait grâce à lui, et ce monde ne le connaissait pas.
11 He came to his own home, and his own people received him not.	11 Quand il est venu chez lui, les siens ne l’ont pas accueilli.
12 But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God;	12 Mais à tous ceux qui l’ont accueilli, il a donné le pouvoir de devenir enfants de Dieu. Oui, quand ils ont cru en son Nom
13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.	13 ils sont nés, mais non pas du sang, ni d’un appel de la chair, ni de la volonté d’un homme: ils sont nés de Dieu.
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father.	14 Et le Verbe s’est fait chair et il a habité parmi nous, et nous avons vu sa gloire: la gloire que seul un Fils Unique peut recevoir du Père: en lui tout était don d’amour et vérité.
15 (John bore witness to him, and cried, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me ranks before me, for he was before me.'")	15 Jean a rendu témoignage à son sujet: il a dit bien haut: "C’est celui dont je parlais; il est venu après moi, mais déjà il me dépasse, car bien avant moi, il était.”
16 And from his fulness have we all received, grace upon grace.	16 Nous avons tous reçu de sa plénitude: chaque don d’amour en préparait un autre.
17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.	17 Par Moïse nous avons reçu la Loi, mais le don d’amour et la vérité sont venus par Jésus Christ.
18 No one has ever seen God; the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has made him known.	18 Personne n’a jamais vu Dieu, mais Dieu-Fils-Unique nous l’a fait connaître, lui qui est dans le sein du Père.
19 And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?"	19 Voici donc le témoignage de Jean lorsque les Juifs de Jérusalem lui envoyèrent des prêtres et des Lévites pour lui demander: "Qui es-tu?”
20 He confessed, he did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Christ."	20 Jean répondit sans cacher la vérité; il déclara: "Je ne suis pas le Christ.”
21 And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the prophet?" And he answered, "No."	21 On lui demanda: "Qui es-tu donc? Es-tu Élie?” Il dit: "Non.” "Es-tu le Prophète?” Il répondit: "Non.”
22 They said to him then, "Who are you? Let us have an answer for those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?"	22 Les envoyés alors lui demandèrent: "Qui es-tu donc? Nous devons donner une réponse à ceux qui nous ont envoyés. Que dis-tu de toi-même?”
23 He said, "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way of the Lord,' as the prophet Isaiah said."	23 Jean répondit: "Je suis, comme l’a dit le prophète Isaïe, la voix qui crie dans le désert: Préparez un chemin droit pour le Seigneur.”
24 Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.	24 Ceux que l’on avait envoyés étaient des Pharisiens.
25 They asked him, "Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?"	25 Ils lui demandèrent encore: "Pourquoi baptises-tu si tu n’es ni le Christ, ni Élie, ni le Prophète?”
26 John answered them, "I baptize with water; but among you stands one whom you do not know,	26 Jean leur répondit: "Je donne un baptême d’eau, mais au milieu de vous il y a quelqu’un que vous ne connaissez pas;
27 even he who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie."	27 bien qu’il vienne après moi, je ne suis pas digne de lui enlever la chaussure.”
28 This took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.	28 Cela se passait à Bétabara, au-delà du Jourdain, là où Jean baptisait.
29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!	29 Le lendemain, Jean voit Jésus qui vient à lui et il dit: "Voici l’agneau de Dieu, celui qui enlève le péché du monde.
30 This is he of whom I said, 'After me comes a man who ranks before me, for he was before me.'	30 Je parlais de lui lorsque j’ai dit: Après moi vient un homme qui déjà me dépasse, car bien avant moi il était.
31 I myself did not know him; but for this I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel."	31 “Je ne le connaissais pas, mais je suis venu avec le baptême d’eau pour qu’il puisse se manifester à Israël.”
32 And John bore witness, "I saw the Spirit descend as a dove from heaven, and it remained on him.	32 Jean fit cette déclaration: "J’ai vu l’Esprit qui descendait du ciel sur lui comme fait la colombe, et il est resté sur lui.
33 I myself did not know him; but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.'	33 “Je ne le connaissais pas, mais celui qui m’a envoyé pour baptiser avec de l’eau m’a dit: Celui sur qui tu verras que l’Esprit descend et reste, c’est lui qui baptise dans l’Esprit Saint.
34 And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God."	34 Cela, je l’ai vu, et je peux déclarer que c’est lui le Fils de Dieu.”
35 The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples;	35 Le lendemain, Jean était là de nouveau, et deux de ses disciples étaient avec lui.
36 and he looked at Jesus as he walked, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God!"	36 Il fixa son regard sur Jésus qui passait et il dit: "Voici l’agneau de Dieu.”
37 The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus.	37 Lorsque ces deux disciples l’entendirent, ils allèrent et suivirent Jésus.
38 Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them, "What do you seek?" And they said to him, "Rabbi" (which means Teacher), "where are you staying?"	38 Jésus se retourna et vit qu’ils le suivaient; alors il leur dit: "Que cherchez-vous?” Ils lui dirent: "Rabbi (c’est-à-dire Maître), où demeures-tu?”
39 He said to them, "Come and see." They came and saw where he was staying; and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.	39 Jésus leur dit: "Venez et vous verrez!” Ils vinrent donc pour voir où il restait, et ce jour-là ils demeurèrent avec lui. Il était environ quatre heures de l’après-midi.
40 One of the two who heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.	40 L’un de ces deux disciples qui avaient écouté Jean et avaient suivi Jésus, était André, le frère de Simon-Pierre.
41 He first found his brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which means Christ).	41 Il alla d’abord trouver son frère Simon et lui dit: "Nous avons trouvé le Messie (ce qui veut dire: le Christ).” Et il l’amena à Jésus.
42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him, and said, "So you are Simon the son of John? You shall be called Cephas" (which means Peter ).	42 Jésus le regarda et dit: "Tu es Simon, fils de Jean; tu t’appelleras Képhas (ce qui veut dire Pierre).”
43 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. And he found Philip and said to him, "Follow me."	43 Le lendemain, Jésus décida de partir pour la Galilée; c’est alors qu’il rencontra Philippe et lui dit: "Suis-moi.”
44 Now Philip was from Beth-saida, the city of Andrew and Peter.	44 Philippe était de Bethsaïde, la ville d’André et de Pierre.
45 Philip found Nathana-el, and said to him, "We have found him of whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."	45 Philippe alla voir Nathanaël et lui dit: "Celui dont a parlé Moïse dans la Loi, et aussi les Prophètes, nous l’avons trouvé; c’est Jésus, fils de Joseph, de Nazareth.”
46 Nathana-el said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see."	46 Nathanaël lui dit alors: "De Nazareth? Qu’est-ce qui peut en sortir de bon?” Philippe lui répondit: "Viens et vois.”
47 Jesus saw Nathana-el coming to him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!"	47 Lorsque Jésus vit Nathanaël qui arrivait, il parla de lui: "Voici un vrai Israélite: il est incapable de mentir.”
48 Nathana-el said to him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you."	48 Nathanaël lui demanda: "Comment me connais-tu?” Et Jésus répondit: "Avant que Philippe ne t’appelle, quand tu étais sous le figuier, je t’ai vu.”
49 Nathana-el answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!"	49 Aussitôt Nathanaël déclara: "Maître, tu es le Fils de Dieu, tu es le Roi d’Israël!”
50 Jesus answered him, "Because I said to you, I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You shall see greater things than these."	50 Jésus lui dit alors: "Tu crois parce que je t’ai dit que je t’ai vu sous le figuier, mais tu verras beaucoup mieux que cela.”
51 And he said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man."	51 Et Jésus ajouta: "En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis: vous verrez le ciel s’ouvrir, avec les anges de Dieu qui montent et descendent sur le Fils de l’Homme.”
